Looking for a quieter ski rack

I currently have some older, very un-aerodynamic Yakima skis racks installed on my 2014 Subary Legacy. These racks are extremely loud with the wind (even without any skis on the racks) and I'm wondering if a wind fairing would do much. Or would I be better off getting a more aerodynamic rack such as the Yakima Fat Cat? Are the Fat Cats pretty quiet? Or do you think a wind fairing would be enough to stop the wind noise?

Racks are going to be loud, that's a fact. If it annoys you a lot a fearing could help. I'm a box guy personally, but yeah it's part of being a skier.

So today when I drove on the highway with a pair of skis on my racks, almost all of the whistling noise was eliminated. Without skis, the whistling is unbearable. So do you think a wind fairing would be a good choice considering that it seems like the whistling is reduced as long as there is something to break up the wind a little bit?

Getting a box is your best bet, but they can be pricey, depending on your bar setup you may be able to loosen and fold the racks down, so they are flat parallel to your roof, save you some money for the fairing

I've still never understood why people do this, if you have a rack on your car, you should be using it frequently enough to make a hassle out of setting it upright every single time.. Just leave em on, who cares about wind noise.

My racks were really really loud, it was more of a low pitch echo than a whistle, but I put a fairing on and all the noise went away
