Looking for a playful pow/all-mountain ski

I live in CO and I already have center-mount park skis and skis that can handle basic all-mountain (ie groomers and such). I'm looking for a ski I can use mostly for pow but can hold it's own on all-mountain. It would be nice to have it be soft, because although I like to charge, I want a fairly playful ski. I was looking at the JPvsJulien and the Line Lizzies. I've heard some people say the the lizzies tend to dive in powder, and I would get the SFB's, but I'm worried that at about 5'5" (will have grown a little bit by ski season) 182s might be a bit much for me. This is also my concern on the JPvsJuliens, is 178 too long? I do really like 08-09 JPs though...

Also, I am only like 110lbs (once again, probably a little bit more by the ski season), so something that's really stiff wouldn't be ideal...
 
you wont be disappointed with lizzies... im 5'8ish 165 and i ride them.

ps... they only dive in powder like the first time you ride them, after that you get the hang of it and its not a problem

When he says "playful" he means a ski that is a bit softer so that butters and other things are easy... Prophet 100s are a bit stiffer than what he is looking for, and at 110 lbs, he won't be able to do much with those. I would recommend the ARV as a fairly soft ski that can do it all. Another good ski is the '08 Blend.

I think the SFB would be WAY too much ski for you. They are super meaty and aren't light. I rode them last year and they are definitely a lot of fun all around the mountain, but your legs would be screaming by 1:00 on those things. Even the Lizzie is a lot of ski for a smaller guy like you to handle. My personal pick for you would be the 175 cm ARV.
 
At 110 lbs you arent going to find anything super playful in a pow

ski...you are at the borderline between adult and junior skis. I would

say an ARV is your best bet. Super soft for most, but at your weight,

it would be perfect.

Any other ski from Armada is going to be

too stiff. The JP's are very stiff unless they softened them up. You could look into a Lizzy, but its going to be a bit

much. I might say Anthem...but the center mount might be a bit much

for pow...I havent flexed any of the new K2's in person yet, but the

169 Hellbent might be an option (If you live out west). It would be

too stiff normally, but the rocker makes it alot easier to ski and you

might like it.

I didnt read the post all the way through...I just looked for the weight/height real fast. If you are still growing in terms of just weight then I would go Lizzies. Pow skis last a little longer then park skis. Where you would expect to get a season out of park skis, expect to get 2-3 out of pow skis. Im taking my Bacons into a 3rd season and love them.

 
go with either last years seths (130-98-118) or this years (105 in the waist, dont know about the tips and tails) in a 169. theyre pretty soft, have a slight rocker, and can hold their own on hardpack.
 
I'd say the kung fujas. I still don't really know the flex of them, but they're meant to be a playful all mountain ski. I think the dimentions are 126-95-120. They're a bit more in-bounds focused than the seths or hellbents.
 
i flexed the kung fujas at a shop the other day and they felt kinda stiff- more like the PE. they probably would be awesome all mtn, but not as good in pow
 
the 165 ARV is a great size but only 89 under foot

the JJ is a 178 but measures more like 175 and with the rev. camber tipa nd tail could work great with 115mm under foot

the 165 Prophet 100 could be a great choice softer but stable when you need it

the MoShip? the shortest is 185 really stiff, charge it ski,

a 168 VCT from 4FRNT but not that playful but it is 104 under foot

169 hell bent is a lot of fun, very playful, and float everywhere, really fun!
 
The main problem is that he is 110lbs...

...adult skis are designed for at the least 115lbs. Its just what they are engineered for. So any soft ski is still going to feel stiff to him.
 
Will you stop fucking posting about how people should go buy you skis, pay for a fucking add package if you want to advertise. stop posting bullshit in all the fucking threads. do you even bother to read the fucking threads to see if your ski would work for them? you don't see the amplid guys, moment guys the surface guys or any of the other people who work for ski companies doing what your doing. And what the fuck is up with making a review of your skis and rating them a 10, no one is going to think that is biased at all. your fucking worthless, your skis are too.
 
joke me hopes. but at your size i think anthems would work well. not that wide but hey, your not that heavy.
 
So, first and foremost, fuck off Boone, if your skis are good then we'll hear about them from people other than you and your sponsored riders (read: dingosean) would you stop reviewing your own skis. So basically, I was your size 2 years ago, so from the perspective of a 5'6 110 pound kid, yes, its true that you wont need as much surface area to float you, but by all means you can drive a ski 180 or under. especially in the case of the sfb which is mounted 2 cm back from center. Anyways, from all the recommendations I would say that the new jj would be good, dont worry those skis are super light and all armadas are relatively soft skis, also the hellbent in a 169 (actually a 174) would be really nice, i personally enjoy rockered skis in anything i can sink an edge into, and those would be super fun for you. also the new seths in a 178 would be fun, maybe not as playful as youre looking for. So yea, sorry about the rant but those 2 skis i would highly recommend to you, good luck finding a ski and seriously dont be intimidated by longer lengths, as long as you ski right you can drive them. Oh, and the bibby pros dont come in a 176 i dont know what that guy was talking about.

Kung Fujas aren't that "playful". Flex is like the old PE.

I've not skied the Prophet 100 but I did ski the 90 and it was really fun and lively. I really wasn't expecting to like it at all but it was hands down the best all round ski I demoed. The 100 is meant to be slightly softer. Go for that if you want something 100-ish width.

Elizabeths dive in powder? Maybe for someone big but this guy is pretty small, they're be good.

For slightly narrower ARVs would be good.

For wider, I've heard good things about Thugs. Probably my next powder ski. Pretty soft.
 
Really? Damn, that sucks. I was hoping they'd be softer... Frank Raymond said they were soft...
 
Yeah I was totally looking forward to skiing it but it didn't really do anything for me. If it was Hellbent-soft it would be pretty sick.
 
yeah i found that the 05/06 pair that i had was super playful... and about the 09 moships i you are right (i have no experience whatsoever with that ski), i was actually refering to earlier moships wich were on the softer side too.
 
i would suggest the 180 myself. if it were any other ski company i would probably not suggest a 180 due to your weight, but with these i think u would be just fine cause the bamboo core makes the SUPER light while not compramising strength or durability. check em out man, it might just be exactly what you're looking for.
 
I totally agree with you. These guys are even making fake threads pretending to be customers says they are glad that they bought a pair of Boone Skis.
 
You've got to be kidding me...

There was one kid who really DID buy skis from Boone, that posted a thread saying he just bought some boones, because he was stoked. You're thinking we are making "threads" as in plural using aliases to promote our product? Cmon dude.. we arent low like that.. and never will be. I dont think any company big or small would stoop to that level, especially when they are doing well selling skis to begin with. Just because the kid has a low postcount, and isnt super active on NS, doesnt mean he cant be stoked about the skis he just purchased.

When somebody posts a thread looking for something that our company can offer, we jump in on it and simply tell them to check it out. Thats all we are doing. We aren't saying we are better than anyone else, its simply that people are stoked on the product, and so are we. When somebody has a question about our skis, we answer it, and we answer it quickly. If somebody is looking for something similar to what we can offer, we make a suggestion for them to check our stuff out.

I know this is NS, and people are going to hate... but c'mon dude.. Boone is brand new, and all of the guys who ride for the company are super stoked about what they are clicking into every time they go out to shred. We just want to let the world know how stoked we are.
 
The point is that it is happening in every single thread where someone asks a question about buying skis, in some cases they aren't even suitable for what the poster needs.

Just because you are stoked on a product doesn't mean that you should spam every thread with your opinions. You dont see any other manufactures doing it so why should you?

As stated above stop being cheapskates and just purchase an ad on here.
 
When somebody creates an open ended thread that basically says "looking for a ski, by basically any company, with about these dimensions, in about this size" what do you expect me or anyone else to do? You suggest the skis you shred on, if you think they will help their decision.

If you look at several other threads that I personally have posted in, I have suggested boone, along with other skis from other companies that would also be sufficient to the task. I may be biased toward boone, but my true goal is to get people on the right ski. If its boone, thats great.. if it isnt.. so be it..

With that said, good luck to the poster on finding the right ski. From the looks of things, this thread hasn't helped you much at all.
 
Too bad that Boone Skis isn't even making a powder ski... This kid is looking for something like the Armada JJs which are definitely out of Boone Skis league, so no he isn't asking for a park ski. HE IS LOOKING FOR A FAT, ROCKERED POW SKI THAT CAN HANDLE ALL-MOUNTAIN...

I'd expect any of the megafat, rockered skis to probably be a bit lengthy and bulky for the kid... a 178 JJ could be a bit overkill for 110 lbs.

No offense to his skiing abilities, of course.
 
^personally i skiied a 182 when i was that size and it fit me perfectly for pow/all mountain. smaller people can drive bigger skis a lot more than people think in general. plus the 178 jj would be rockered so it would ski more like a 174 tops. honestly thats the best suggestion ive seen in this thread. armadas are pretty forgiving skis and 115 would be a filthy width for a kid that size. not saying that something narrower would work, but when youre light you might as well get as fat as you can without screwing up your leg position. youll notice most good pow skiers are wiry guys ex. seth, and ive always figured its because the width does more for them.
