Looking for a new mic

Im looking to purchase a new mic for my t3i and i know that most of you will recommend the Rode Video mic but im looking for something a little bit less bulky. i dont want to sacrifice quality to have it smaller so can you guys give me a few suggestions? thanks
 
I know what it's like, yes. Even with the anti-shock mount it's not terribly large, but that's okay. Have you held one slash assessed the size other than just by looking at specs online?

...and check out the NTG1. It's a pretty solid mic for the price/size. I'd recommend the NTG-2/3 over it but they are too big and out of your price range, respectively.
 
yeah i have held one and seen it on a t2i a few times. i honestly know nothing about mics but is there a way to mount the rode video mic without the antishock part? thats the main part of the bulk im trying to avoid.
 
get the videomic pro? its a lot sleeker, smaller, very crisp, only like 220 on b&h i believe. definitely worth it. i have a deadcat on it and its perfect for skiing. when i have time i can post samples if you would like.
 
ok ill have to find the raw footage for you but i was very impressed with how it did skiing its first time out. landings and rails were super crisp. ill try and post some later tonight
 
here are a couple raw, untouched clips shot with my 60D and the Rode Videomic Pro. I did not have a dead cat on because i forgot it so i was skeptical, but rails and stationary shots turned out ok as far as sound goes. one is of a few rails and the other is a jump just so you can get an idea of how it sounds skiing. if i had put the dead cat on there, the wind would be completely gone. and i am the one skiing as well....

these are 100% un-edited all sound is straight from the mic plugged into the camera.

If you want something really small check out the Sennheiser MKE 400. One of my friends have it but I have never tested it so you should check out some reviews between the Sennheiser and the Rode videomic Pro. I have the videomic Pro and I like it, it is pretty small and produce good stuff I think. After using the Rode videomic on school I am glad I did go for the videomic pro because I have to agree the Rode videomic is a little to bulky.
 
you're talking about the skiing right?? haha. but idk i've never used the normal videomic so im not sure

and for the one about the sennheiser^^ we used those at school and compared to the rode they are kinda crappy i think. we were using one once and it just sorta randomly died, there wasn't a light or anything on it for the battery and it feels very cheap. but thats just me, it is way smaller but i am very happy with the rode videomic pro
 
i believe that the sound quality is very similar, with the videomic pro you're paying extra for the better design. it's much smaller and sleeker. there's lots of reviews online if you want to hear the difference for yourself
