Looking for a camera

Open to dslr or camcorder. Prefer camcorder due to ease of filming and follow cams. I have a budget of 3-400$. I’ve tried finding gh3s used but had no luck same with a6000s, dslr are appealing to me because tapes fucking suck to convert along with mini dvds but I really like the Sony dsr-pd170 because I could go tapeless with it and how easy it would be with follow cams and Would like something I could throw a fisheye on also. I don’t rly know exactly what I want so open to any and all suggestions.

Also my parents think I’m a moron for being willing to spend that money on 10 plus year old camcorders or cameras

i scored an a6000 from b&h for 390 in 9+ condition. got an opteka fishey to go along with it and its a great setup. also got a handle that connects to the hotshoe to make it easier to hold while filming follow cams. i def recommend if youre still looking.

dslrs suck imo but they definitely have ease of use when it comes to editing and storing footy, capturing off tapes is a bitch unless you have a dedicated pos camera for exporting. that being said i would personally go for a camcorder like gl2 or dvx100 and use a dvr capture setup.

I looked into the dvx when I was looking at the pd170 footy looks a bit more grainy then I’d like but I don’t know of a ski video that was for sure filmed on it. Do you know of any that were or have any you filmed yourself

Eat the guts was filmed entirely on dvx100

In a perfect world I could get a hpx170 but the closest I can afford looks like it’s the dvx, or I buy a newer camcorder like a Cannon Vixia and throw a fisheye in it. Why are cameras so damn expensive

If you really want to save money get a gopro 4 silver, it’s shouldn’t cost more than $130 and you can shoot up to 1080p 60fps with that super wide lense

dslr's do suck but mirrorless blow both of these out of the water. It's all personal preference..most peeps on this site are using older camcorders and most mirrorless produce iq 10x better. If you're into chillin with homies and passing the cam then a camcorder is def the move. However, if you are interested in filmmaking and some photography, mirrorless is the way 100%. OP ebay has gh3's for well under $400.

honestly recently used a dslr of some sort with a fisheye and a cam caddie and i gotta say its a pretty good setup for follow cams, that being said i only filmed for like 20mins and it was for a skate clip. but the camera had a nice balance to it with the cam caddie and the clips looked good. if you wanna go that route its probably not a bad idea since camcorders are super expensive and the market for them is wack. if i had a lower budget i would undoubtably go that route

That’s what I’ve realized I don’t have the cash for a hpx170 so I’m going with a dslr just found a Canon 70D for a steal with lenses, and as cool as a pd170 or something newer like a hpx or hmc it’s just to expensive

Just found a HVX200 for 500$ with 3 battery’s working and 2 tapes locally rly temptef

Personally wouldnt recomend using hvx with tapes, its very worthwhile to spend the extra 200-300 for a few p2s

Ok thanks my parents prolly won’t let me get it to begin with even tho I’ve been saving for ever. Imma try explaining to them how it shoots in 1080p and has all the adjustments of stuff today and is relevant but that prolly won’t change their minds. Never mind those are p2s just was in the box

if you want the hvx why don't you look into the ac series? basically the same as the others and records to sd cards.
