for campus cruising n shit get something around 36" with a kick tail. sector9 has some good ones for great prices, but tons of people will say that s9 sucks...they are not the best boards on the market, but for your first board and with a limited budget, i wouldnt get anything else

Check out krackedskulls.com they make really nice boards and they're dirt cheap. For the same price as a sector 9 setup you can get higher quality hardware and a pretty nice deck.

Go to your local skate shop. Buy a blank deck for $30 and get some grip tape. Next go into the bin at the back that has all the scratched trucks and get 2 trucks, preferably of the same variety, then get some big blank wheels, some bearings and hard wear and slap that shit together. Now you've got yourself a board to cruise on that actually functions and you won't look like a fucking tool riding to class on your brand new $200 longboard that you probably don't know how to ride.

how much are you willing to spend? I have a loaded dervish and absolutely love it but its a big investment.
