So I was sitting down the other day reading the new January issue of TransWorld Snowboarding and came across an article called "Butt-Hurt Skiers" in the letters to the editors section of the mag. Here is what the letter said.

"Now, I'm all for supporting' core companies that are proud to have been around since snowboarding's birth and are trying to push the limits of the sport, but some companies take it too far. Companies like Burton have been known to help add friction between skiers and snowboarders, and a recent interview with Danny Kass that was posted on the TransWorld SNOWboarding Web site has generated a large backlash from the freeskiing community. Kass was hating on skiers encroaching on the territory of snowboarders, namely the halfpipe. Although the whole freeskiing movement has been greatly influenced by snowboarding, it would be hard for snowboarding to advance farther than kids standing on sleds if it hadn't been for the popularity of skiing. There is no need for any sort of fight to still be taking place on the mountains, and big-name pros like Danny Kass shouldn't be adding fuel to the fire."

Now comes the editors response to the letter. Enjoy.

"The freeskiing movement--is that like a bowel movement? Phhhh, we never would have known how hypersensitive "freeskiers" are if it hadn't been for good ol' Kass. Man, you guys really got thrown for a loop-heatin' up the twsnow.com message boards, throwin' around boycotts, swappin' photoshopped pics back and forth like kindergarteners... chill the fuck out. BTW, what's with those stubby kid poles? Don't want to talk about it, do you?"

WOW. I believe NS has some work to do on twsnow. Lets talk about those "stubby kid poles."
 
TW represents snowboarding as much as freeskier does for skier. It represents a different group of boarders, not the core ones. So fuck TW, and we shouldn't really give a shit about what they write.
 
So another snowboarder is living in the 90s and doesn't like skiers. so what?
seriously. They have just as many pre-pubescent shit talkers in their "community" as we do.

This really makes me mad though cause I ski and board... I get to have TW as my NS for boarding and it really upsets me because you wouldn't see bishop or anyone bash on a boarder if the emailed them on there complaints with their sport. I thought TW would be classy if an issue like such was presented, but I guess I was wrong.
 
Doesn't mean much to me, only snowboards i like are travis rice and the forum crew. And scotty stevens. And alot more, but not TW thats for sure.
 
u really think skiers can bitch and moan on twsnow forums and not be made fun of? calm down, they're just calling you out for taking this shit too seriously.
ps. editors of ski mags rip on snowboarding regularly, too.
 
Last I checked, the entire point of freeskiing was to do whatever you want and not give a shit about what people say. If you truly care about this, shame.
 
To be honest I'm actually pretty honored at that. Sure their bigtime media is bashing us, but look at how many people noticed what we were doing?

I mean seriously, as a community of skiers, we banded together and said "go fuck yourself" to people giving us no respect. The fact that we have grown in numbers to a point that someone actually notices? I think its aboslutely gold.

Hah so whatever... really we should take the higher road in this situation and just let it go. There's no need to continue this fight, as it will lead nowhere. I like my snowboarder buddies, and enjoy continuing to shred the mountains with them.

We're growing like wildfire, and snowboarding's numbers have plateued. Hah they just need to realise that kids aren't snowboarding anymore... thats for mom and dad.

Long live the freeskiing movement.

 
Deep down the editors are probably thanking us for the nice traffic boost we gave them at a time when snowboarding is plateauing...

but as usual, Doug is on the money with his post.
 
Not that it bothers me, but I'm fairly certain that Mr. Bishop was one of the ones responsible for the photoshop Kass stickied thread.

I couldn't care less though. I don't give a shit what Danny Kass said, or what TW Snow said. I enjoy skiing for myself, and not for anyone others acceptance.
 
First of all skiiers and snowboarders ALWAYS have gotten along. I say this in terms of the core athletes from both sports. Back when snowboarding was starting the core skiiers were stoked on what the snowboarders where doing and they shredded together. The reason transworld is so stupid is because guesse who reads transworld?--- Kids that snowboard 5-20 times a year and think skiiers are 'fags' because they have no idea what they are talking about. Transworld caters to this people because they are sold out. Burton is along the same path. Burton boards are thought of as the best boards because people go "flying tomatoe" "OMGZ burton. Im totally rocking a burton this season!!!!! YEA BRO ME TOO!!!!!"

If you really call yourself a core skiing company or rider for either sport you should take a good look at yourself. Predjudices against the other party are retarded and based on how cool both sports are i feel that it is pointless.

hahahahahaha. i wrote that letter months ago, but i was really just hoping they would be like "yea, you're right, whoops" and then give me some of the free mail-giveaway schwag. guess that didn't happen..... i'll have to go pick up that issue sometime
 
well like most people are saying I see no point in really caring what this guy says.
However, I do find his response strikingly unprofessional. I mean, I could understand if it's coming from some pissed little smart as 13 year old trying to feel cool about himself, but from a grown individual that supposedly holds an important part in the industry? It just rubs me the wrong way.....
 
ya true I expected some sort of consolation. that was a low blow and the kid that wrote it didnt even bash anyone, it was pretty chill but that editor ripped on it. completely unprofessional and its people like that which keep the hatred going between the groups, that was just stupid.
 
CLAIM !!!!But still, that was a sweet letter and I just don't understand why they keep pushing that hate. What's next ? Some gang wars with knifes and guns in the ski town's guetto? So to all the freeskiers, go grab your torch and machetes !! It's time to attack the Transworld headquarter !!!!

 
i thought we were being downright retards with that whole reaction. (we being everyone who bitched). it was a magazine article. get over it. i think deep down we're actually still afraid of snowboarders, or think we should live up to them or something and that's why everyone got so defensive.

butt-hurt is a good term for this moment in skiing history.
 
its just like on the hill...
they are sitting down kicking it...and we pass them by,sometimes needing to ski around them, like in this instance.
so lets just let them sit and bitch, while we take the next step forward.

There are two types of people on the Hill. One a month weekend skiers/snowboarders who are way to cool and hate on the other sport, shop at ski market and ride to the mountain in their/their parents Suburban.

Then there are skiers/snowboarders who are actually intune with the sports, partake in their respective sport as much possible, and love riding with whoever (except monoskiers, they're all crazy hippies).

TWSnow seems to be marketing towards the once in awhile snowboarders who actually think there is hate between REAL skiers and snowbaorders (note, Danny Kass is a real snowboarder, although a butt hurt one because his ass gets shown up consistently by skiers who aren't even winning medals at the X-games, let alone the Olympics).

On a realted note, Transworld did shut down Freeze after the biggest year the ski industry had seen to date, so they have already shown how out of touch with the entire snowsports world they are. Here's me, giving TW a middle finger and moving on since in the scheme of things all they're good for is a laugh.

So when i first read the comments from the editor of TW i was a lil pissed.... but after thinkin about it and seeing all the posts on here(especially from BISHOP +++karma) i dont give a shit anymore...

We all know Danny Kass is a dipshit but who cares!!? Most snowboarders cant stand the guy either so whatever he says is forgotten.... and whatever TW says doesnt matter either. total poser mag.

 
haha oh wow can't believe that some editor would write that in a magazine. Really sounds like a pissed 13 year old kid. But whatever that just shows how unprofessional his mag is and I hope snowboarders who buy it realize that. And obviously snowboardesr are jealous of freeskiers, no one wants to snowboard these days it's all about skiing for real, just go in the park you'll find 10 skiers for 1 snowboarder (just look somewhere on the ground he should be there).
 
as much as i think about it, i still cant figure out why skiers and snowboarders fight. were both drawn in by the same general reasons: snow, terrain parks, etc. the only difference is what we ride on. i dont know why we all (i mean both sides) feed the fire and call eachother gay or the worser sport. who cares, if you want to snowboard, snowboard. if you want to ski, ski. end of story.
 
though i am a snowboarder, I have to say how childish tws and the people who thinks snowboarders and skiers alcutly beat the shit out of each other. We have the same aspirations, pow and park. Cant we just get along and stop being immature 12 year olds, though my spelling and grammar make me seem like one.

l will never understand the whole skier vs snowboarder deal. never. i grew up with my buddy who was an avid snowboarder, and every weekend in school we went to the slopes together. even introduced me to his buddys who snowboard. and never had to deal with the oh nice skis and pools fag, like the pool dont u? comments. i mean there are dumb ppl on the slopes that would say shit, but fuck em and let them be idiots
 
i think they do kinda the same thing we do in arguments, they focus on the skiers that wear tights and ski twice a year or are just strait up assholes, and we mainly focus on snowborders that cut us off and are cocky bastardsbut there are ppl from both sides that are like that and i dont think itll change, pll will keep 'fighting' the other side
 
a bunch of my biddies board and get TWsnow, it has some sick pics. Most of my friends shit on me for skiing i shit on them for boarding, none of it serious. but then you get to one of the mountians and its funny when people that suck on both sides are actually pissed at each other.

Its all the same, as long as your having a good time its all good

i completely agree w/ everything said here but....

TW and Snowboarding Mag still make 100000% better magazines than freeskier and powder, and that needs to change.
 
Oh well. Who cares. Let them be ignorant. Freeskiing is only getting bigger and this is just an attempt to keep their readers on boards instead of skis. People who think Transworld is correct right now, will be laughing in 10 years when people have realized skiing is where it is at.
 
its funny how there is a war of hate between 2 sports that share the exact same characteristics in every department apart from how they actually move on the snow. Tws are fuckers and so is danny kass for continuing to spark a dud fire
 
ive never heard a skier or snowboarder hating on the other sport in real life, i ski 100+ days a year and there has not been one day when i heard a snowboarder making fun of skiing or the other way around, only time is when they are just joking around, pretty much all the time its skiers giving snowboarders props and snowboarders giving skiers props. i know there are places where there might be some butthurt bitches making fun of the other sport, but at my home mountain, ive never heard it.
so its pretty sad how out of touch one of snowboardings biggest magazines is, they arent real snowboarders, they are most likely a bunch of 35+ year olds trying to sound hip, cause they are a bunch of sellouts trying to make money on the sport, not making their magazine cause they love snowboarding. so fuck tw,
