i have a question about some older look bindings. theyre called look Z7's and they have a DIN from 5-13. My friend whos a shop tech says theyre good bindings but someone on NS told me there was a problem with these with prereleasing and not releasing when they should. does someone know anything about these? thanks

I am pretty sure they are the same as the look zr's, just with a lower din.

I know for a fact that the look zr's have the same heel piece as the current p18/fks and the toe piece functions the same, just shaped differently.

i dont think that toe piece is the same... it doesnt seem to have the "wings"...as in the full drive toe on Looks newer models

i know that the toepiece is different but i think it works about the same. i compared with my look p10s and theyre differet for sure but the toepiece on these has wider wings but they look like they would hold u in jus as good as newer models

that toe works essentially the same as the look p18 or rossi fks binding, except for the fact that its old and i wouldnt trust it. springs, cams, rubber gaskets, etc. wear out with time, and those bindings have been sitting around for a while...

^true but ibought them off a pair of old ghetto skis and the dude told me he almost never skiied, and they look brand new so they got very little to no use

even for sitting around for a long time is bad and those a pretty damn old so they've probably been sitting for quite a while. I don't think it would be that bad of an idea to give them a try, only downside is that they prolly have a different hole pattern so if they dont work it you end up with a bunch of extra holes in your skis...

yea, the toe piece works the same as the higher fks. the fks 155 and 188 toe pieces dont have upward releases as in the consumer models. they just changed the housing so it would look more like the other bindings.

also, just take it to a shop and see if they can test the releases before they mount.

plenty of people are still using the look zr's and salomon 900 on their powder skis because those bindings are bomb proof. it really shouldnt be a problem. considering salomon's binding warranty is 5 years, bindings are designed to last for a while.

the one question i have is, is the toe piece metal?

If they are like brand new, I think you'll not have any problem. As it has been said, people still use these "old pivot" bindings.

I read you just have to check if heel's arms aren't rusted. Just put some wd-40 on it and they will last you forever!

The bindings are completely legit. They use th GEZE style toe from a while back so its just a side to side pivot thing but it functions pretty much the same. Just have them release tested and adjust the din accordingly. Even if they were brand new zr's when your riding a din that high you want to make sure the din you have it set at is what its actualy releasing at.

My point was even though its at seven on the binding, it could actualy be releasing at something higher like 12. If you get them tested you can account for that, if you don't its just guess work.

im pretty sure that most shops have som doohickey that will test the release for you and give a reading that shows what the din would need to be to relaese with that pressure
