This weekend a friend got uber fucked up, He dropped into a line at alpine meadows called 'idiot's' without scoping his outrun. He asked someone below him what it looked like and the fucking gaper told him it was a 10 foot drop ( actually 25 and a huge outcropping ) and he dropped in. Now this isnt the gaper's fault at all , Lucas should have checked his outrun himself prior to this line but he learned his lesson. Lucas is in the ICU right now with a tube in his chest helping him breath he might have head injury's but we wont be sure for a few days and he also has a broken jaw, no teeth , 2 broken wrist's and a shitload of deep long cuts and bruises. Just to give it extra effect lucas had a compound fracture of his left wrist, his hand was held on by skin. Hopefully everyone know's that you need to check shit yourself but if you didnt no that i hope you do now. I was there when it happend and it isnt fucking easy to hear a grown man scream so keep yourselves smart out there.

Being out there skiing every day, good or bad, just playing around with friends, with no contests or filming- that is the real spirit of skiing for me. that is why i started skiing, and if i lose those moments that is what will make me stop skiing.
 
I didn't believe it when Lief first told me about this. Lucas is seriously the nicest guy ever and I wish him a speedy recovery. Everyone pray for him!!

 
Lucas is my homeslice...he'll be back on it soon, I'm sure of it. And sitting with him for the fifteen minutes before patrol came goes down as probably the most intense experience of my life. Stay careful up there kids, this sport's consequences are far too high to go fucking around, especially in BC or big-mountain areas, It's definately given me a new outlook on the way I look at the mountains.

But if you are going to go McConkey, you gotta check the shit out first. At snowbird about 6 years ago I dropped a 20 footer in spring snow, landed on a rock, core shot my skis and face planted. I am very lucky there wasnt a rock where my face hit. This all happened b/c I didn't spec the landing.

Check it all, density, deep, takeoff, outrun, clearance.
