Look at / critique some of my designs

Hey all

I'm strongly considering trying to get a job designing topsheets for skis after college. I've done quite a bit of graphic work and I need you to check my stuff out. Right now I have three designs, all of them completely made in illustrator.

I am part of the graphic design cult and have tryed to get some feedback from there, but there just aren't enough active members. I'm planning on entering these into a few design comps this year and hopefully getting people to start checking my stuff.

What I need to know is

Would you buy a pair of skis with the design?

What do you like / dislike about the design?

Any suggestions for my future designs?

Not bad.

I can see a company like armada digging those or maybe rossi. But i think ski graphics have turned for more of sophisticated look and i don't know how well those would fly. I like the ones on the right though.
 
Yeah I agree about the sophisticated point. I'm only a junior in highschool, so I don't have aton of edu on art. I'm planning on doing a bfa/marketing focus in college tho.

i really like the ones on the left...you should make a pair of skis that have like a james bond/tuxedo feel to them that would be sick ha i've always wanted a pair like that.
 
thanks guys. I'll be entering a few of my designs into some contests floating around and hopefully get some recognition. My dream is to be able to design skis and ride what I make :)
 
I think you need to put some smaller, refined detail in and some horizontal/vertical lines as well as circles, more variety of shapes. You seem to be using really gaudy colours, so I would try some more subdued colours or grays/white/black as well. I don't know anything about illustrator or digital design as of yet, so I can't give any feedback about your use of that medium or the possibilities and limitations it has.
 
thanks for the feedback. I'm working on a blackwhite / lined design right now.

Basically as soon as I can get my hands on a decent scanner I wont have many limitations, but for now it's just whatever I can do with lines / shapes / colors and photoshop.
 
The outer ones I like alot, the middle pair is kinda plain. As far as the skis being different from whats out there now I think thats probably a good thing since alot of graphics are getting really complicated but are still boring

black and white on the left is sick. The other ones aren't my style but they definately have style man. keep workin man.
