im not talking about olympic ski jumping, just regular skiing. what is the furthest distance traveled off of a backcountry booter or something?

I forget the name. There's a 200 foot gap out around Utah I believe. A group of pros are talking about hitting this this next year as well as going back to Chad's Gap.

Chad's gap is huge.

um, sorry to burst your bubble, but you can't travel 730 feet on skis. You know Candide hittin that table in SM3, that's only 110 feet, and it's one of the biggest tables out there. If you went 730 you would die on impact since there isn't a landing big enough and steep enough for the impact of that landing.

I thought Malysz tied the world ski jumping record w/ 225 meters... around 675 feet. I dunno what gap it was but I thought the Collins had been hitting something that was 170 or 190.. somethin around there a couple years ago.

I think wannabe is right and the biggest jump was by the Collins brother at 180ft...that was published...and I think the cliff jump record is held by Paul Ruff and it's something like 220ft, but Paul might be the guy who died trying to break the record...I read about it in powder a few year back, I'm not too sure who holds that record...

 
skiboards is even more unbelievable cuz there is less mass to spread the pressure around.

It's not 225 feet... METERS. Watch the Olympics or do some research and you'll see. They don't jump like normal skiers... the create lift. They aren't coming down from an impact like we do when we jump... it's kind of like landing an airplane. That's the only metaphor I can really think of. And it's not Paul Ruff. Paul Ahern is the guy who did 226 feet into spring time slush, and he broke his sternum. This question has been asked a million times on this forum, and the answer never changes.

Does anyone remeber the Sept. 2000 Powder cover of Jeff Holden going huge off a cliff in BC or AK...It was huge and people didn't think it was real, then it showed up in some random BC movie...does anyone know how big that was?

 
thid is from the decemebr 1999 issue of freeze, '...Paul Ahern...he holds the world record for cliff jumping, 220 feet in springtime mush. It was a flat landing and he broke his sternum. 'I (Ahern) figured I was going 83 Km/hr on impact and I made a six-foot crater, which converts to 37.33 g's. Comparably, the average plane crash is only 25 g's, he brags.' I don;t know if this is the most reputable info, it is Freeze mag, but just passing along what I've read. -Josh

 
dood why is it so hard to believe that the longest jump on skis is 730 ft or w/e....if you were talkn about nortic jumping then yes ATLEAST that...they fuck fly and expecailly when they catch a tail wind WOWZA...

yeah, ski jumpers dont get very high off the ground either, so the candide comparison is useless. the lip on that jump was insane. there really isnt much lip at all in ski jumping at all and you dont go very high. i just started last year, but 725 feet sounds like a correct record

actually on nordic ski jumps there is no lip...technically there is negative lip becuz it points down

those olympic people fuckin fly. like 730 feet is just insane. i saw the jumps that they hit at placid and the runways and landings are just plain huge
