Longboards

I agree longer is better not only to start with but for cruising and getting around faster also to start it is easier to get the concave board.

get one that's at least 35"

Go to the store and make sure it's flexy (bounce on it, a rock hard board isn't fun to cruise on)

ask someone at the store if the trucks are turny. try to avoid gullwing trucks, but almost all sector 9's have them.

If you're ordering online, go tohttp://stokedskateboards.com/

Sector-9 boards are kind of the Wal-Mart bikes of longboarding, they're overall not that impressive boards. If you spend the time and swap out some components then they're not bad decks, but you get a lot more board for your money with better board companies.

I have a Bustin Complex myself, which is 42" and is kickass. They make a 38" called the spliff which I've heard is a great ride, if you want something a little more portable.

Also look into these companies: Landyachts, Loaded, and Arbor.

daddiesboardshop.com is good, so is thelongboardstore.com

and check out silverfishlongboarding.com, SilverFish is basically the NS of longboarding, there's a LOT of info there about getting set up on a new board. I spent a month reading about boards before I bought mine there....

ding ding. stay away from sector 9, they are lame and unlegit. Silverfish is the shit too. you'll find all your answers there.

If your down to spend a little more money, I build one-off composite V lams, like this:

I'm going to be blunt, if you're going to try and sell things, learn how to spell and use grammar......

And like ^ said, Kracked Skulls boards are pretty sweet as well. There are also people who will build you boards custom, but those get pretty expensive, and building your own requires a press which is very very large, heavy, and time consuming to build....... It's basically the same process as building skis, except with different designs/materials. That's why a company like Arbor builds both snowboards and longboards.

milehighskates is yet another good store as well.

I guess the question that nobody's asked, is, what kind of riding are you doing? Mostly flatland campus cruising, a little bit of chill downhill, or getting into really shredding hills?

I'd have to say around $200. Like whoever said it above, check out neversummer. I just bought one of their boards and couldn't be happier with it.

sector9 boards are fine if you are looking for your first board. and to anyone saying their boards suck, try out more than one of them before you develop that opinion...i know tons of people who ride serious dh and race on the bombhills, trilam, s9 race, and kommi. my bro has an s9 race deck (not available to the public) and that is the nicest topmount speedboard i have ever ridden. please consider s9 if this is going to be your first board. i recommend something around 36-40inches in their sidewinder collection. those things carve like a dream, and buying a cheap board for starters is never a bad idea. i started out on aa s9 sandwedge, and im glad i did.

yeah I have the bomb hills and its not bad.. its actually really fun and flexy and long.... It a good board to strt with. I just wish i would have nown about these other companys when i got my first one

landyachtz is real legit. i have an evo and love it...i have no experience with that specific board but any landyachtz is the bees knees and having a kicktail for cruising is never a bad idea

Expect to pay somewhere between $150 and $200 for a good longboard. Basically, there aren't really "first" and "pro" boards, they all cost about the same, it's just the dimensions and hardware and personal preference that really make the difference......

And Molly ^, my buddy has this board: http://www.landyachtz.com/D25.cfm?PID=279 and it's great, but with Randall R-II trucks instead of the Grizzlys. I've heard good things about Grizzlys as well..... anyway. I would highly reccomend Landyachtz either way. Whoever mentioned Neversummer, they are another great company and they make a BADASS pintail board. LibTech (the snowboard company) also makes a couple longboard decks which are pretty cool.

Kracked skull!

You could get the M1 in 40 inch with powerballs and randalls, this is what my gf has and its real fun. Best for the price IMO

i roll on a bustin spliff. best board i have ever ridden. its so maneuverable, portable and still super stable for all but the steepest hills. i have been clocked at 35 mph with no speed wobbles which is awesome for a board that short.

Sector Nine decks made of bamboo are fine ... sure they aren't Landyachts or Loadeds or [insert other brand name here] but my board goes fine for me.

But my other components aren't S9 though, I got Randall trucks and Big Zig wheels.

false.

sorry to keep posting, but if you're just getting into longboarding, S9 would be great. I rode a sector for my first year. But you'll outgrow the board soon enough in terms of skill. I've been riding a loaded for a year and a half, and could not be happier. I love it. But it all depends on what you want to do.

Landyachtz and Rayne make the best downhill boards, no doubt. You're certainly not looking to do downhill, so I'd scratch those two off. But definitely look at the Rayne Timeline and Vice Deck, on the link I posted above.

Loaded makes the sickest carve boards. If you're going to be carving and sliding, don't get anything but a Loaded. You can definitely commute on a Loaded board too, and you can pump them like crazy on flat ground and even uphill. For cruising and commuting, look at the Pintail and the Ceviche. When you get better, you can get naaasstttyyy on the Ceviche.

Never Summer is pretty okay, I'm not a fan but you won't be disappointed.

Don't buy a complete from zumiez, you will be throwing your money out the window. Find the board you want, then go to http://www.daddiesboardshop.com

find it, and make your own complete. You'll save money and get a better setup. When you decide which board you want, come back to us and we'll all help you to pick the right setup for your needs.

RIght, fellow ns'ers?

I agree with you except on the LAndyachtz, their cruisers are really good boards as well. Plus they build boards with good components, which S9 doesn't. The S9 decks are ok, but it's more that you buy a complete S9 and all the other components are crappy.

If you go on daddiesboardshop, you can customize your own complete with an S9 deck and other components. And I got my loaded with BigZigs and Paris trucks for 250. The online store on loadedboards.com is way steep, but go to daddies or to http://www.milehighskates.com and see if they have the set up you're looking for
