So I want one but i don't know shit about em. All i wanna do is cruise!

Halp me!

there was a thread on this not to long ago, but im not trying to get banned.

i have sector 9. its really sturdy and reliable, but thats just my opinion. others are really biased against them

i have heard that bustin's are ill also. i am definately thinking thats the next one i want.

i would also recomend for the average size person, something between 34" and 40" will suffice for length

www.bustinboards.com

Super sick company, they will hook you up if you just talk to them, or I can talk to them for you...

You should give us what kind of board you want too, a fat pintail, dancer board, short carving board, downhill board... all kinds of possibilitys. And how much bank are we looking at?

For reference im 5'6 and 155-160 lbs

I dont know ANYTHING about longboards other then the fact they are fun as hell to carve on. Thats what i wanna do, just cruise and carve.

Well, since this is your first board, and you just wanna cruise and carve and learn, I would look around for an old board that's long, fat, and cheap. Not old necissarily, but used. Cheap and gets it done. Unless of course you have the bank to be buying a new board.

If your gonna be buying new trucks, always go with the randall 180s. Super fun for everything. Personally, I roll with those and the Gumball wheels, just because thats a fucking fun setup.

i see a lot of real skinny ones. Whats the difference in feel between the fat and the skinny ones

i won't go into my whole schpiel(sp?) about my board because it's prob too much, but i'd take a look over at eastbuilt blanks for something cheap.

and for the NS of longboarding, check www.silverfishlongboarding.com and check the forums and you'll find people who have asked similar questions.

Another think i forgot to mention, im in Ontario so i would really perfer a shop that might be located here or atleast in this country as to aviod getting raped by the Customs people at the boarder

yeah they look real sweet. What do you suggest there for a cheap(er) starter setup?

Get whatever graphics you want on there, get the complex because the cigar isn't that hot, but the complex is DOPE. Get the reg. wheels and the medium trucks. That's what I'd go with.

if u want to carve and cruise...get a KICKTAIL...pintails are fun if you are charging down huge massive hills and just want to die.

check this out...

http://www.gravityboard.com/pages/gstore/boards/c461.html

that is my board and is suuuper siick. gravity makes amazing shit and for decent cost too. if u pay more than 400 for a complete then u are paying to much. any questions pm me.

yeah bustin boards are the shit. i love mine.

but i will be willing to sell you my old longboard for dirt cheap. its a motherlode, i dont know if the company is even arround anymore but its the one i started out on and it did me good.

wheels really depend on the board you get, but in case you didn't know, softer wheels make a smoother less noisy ride, and larger wheels allow you to roll over bigger things. with increased size though, comes increased price and increased chance of wheelbite, which goes back to board choice.

if you really wanna be a P-I-M-P and lay out some cash, Longboard Larry has some real nice cruisers/dancers or you could get one custom made. i don't think this would be the way to go for your first board, but once you get addictied, i would look into LBL.

Im not looking to be a pimp on this...i just wanna cruise down the roads and bike paths (paved) here.

i've been using an old sharkie for the last few days and i love just cruising

40 inches a good size?

What about Dank Kicktails and concaves and shit...i've seen a few boards that are pretty fucking curvy...i just want something flat

yaa, mine is 40 inches, which is on the smaller side but i love it. definately more of a large skateboard than a true longboard, but soo much fun. check out this site:

http://loseelongboards.bigcartel.com/

i know the guy who runs it if you wanna give him a call. makes the designs himself, and the are sooo sick.

go to top of the world, downtown ottawa. theyve got some nice shit. but im into the skateboarding thing, so i don't know shit all about longboarding either.

all i know is theyre fun as hell to cruise on everynow and then too if any of my homies has one.

but i need the adrenaline rush I get from my skateboarding.

^ website or a number I can call? Toronto is close...but not THAT close.

Anyone selling a board?

go to a local skateshop, they usually carry longboards.

Find one with sick graphics and a sick shape you like, they usually have griptape on them already it seems like.

Personally I think you should just buy an 'oldschool' shaped deck (alot of companies are remaking these now, they usually have a pointed nose) put some bigger trucks on it and some big fat wheels and get a little riser for your trucks. Get some really good bearings too that are super fast and smooth.

Longboards are cool, but I would way rather have a fatty board. That way you can cruise on it and also do ollies and shit alot easier as well as skate tranistions alot better. Plus they arent as freaking long if you have to carry it.

The hardest parts about putting a skateboard together is the griptape and putting the bearings in the wheels. Just look on like skateboarding.com or something, im sure someone has written good plans to put a deck together.

Its all super easy to assemble. As for the gear you found the trucks are super legit. Those are the ones I have and they handle everything. Good price on them too. As for the wheels Im not a fan of those ones myself. I perfer sector nine soft gum wheels. As you board the pavement heats up the wheels making them more gummy and then they adhear better to the pavment. Works just like performance racing tires do for your car. They cost about 45-60 bones depending on where you shop but Id say its well worth it

go with a landyachtz or a loaded, they make amazing decks, i have a landyachtz evo and a flexdex slalom 30, and alot of my friends ride loaded boards.

trucks go with randal 180s like everybody said, and wheels something larger and super soft

bearings, id go with some bone reds or anything ceramic.

I think im going to build my own because its way cheaper to do.

Blank deck, 44":

Trucks/wheels:

Im looking at randal trucks but im not sure whether to go for the 150 or 180's. As for wheels, i have no idea who makes a good wheel...any ideas? i want abec 11 bearings

do you know if that board has a concave/convex shape to it. I personally like a concave flex (like skis have). you really get a nice respose while carving. these are also softer (not in a bad way). I have a convex shaped sector 9, the board is not flat and is pretty stiff. I kinda wish that i had the flexy concave board. If you can, try stepping on a few different boards and see which one's you find comfortable. and putting on grip tape is super easy (and you can cut creative designs, which look kinda cool).
