Longboarding noob

I want to start longboarding and I see a ton of guys here do it, so advice would be awesome.

I'm 6'5(not sure if that means anything for board length) and will be riding around where I live, NYC. I want a good starter board which I can carve with. I'll need to dodge cars so something that can carve tight would be awesome.

Good advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I am pretty strapped for cash. I have a blank skateboard actually, and I love it. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to get a solid longboard deck and the rest from blankdecks.

Feels like I just had this conversation last night with someone........

anywho. seeing as your in the city I would say you want a smaller board. And try to steer away from Sector Nine. just cause your a noob doesnt mean you have to look like one

longboarding used to be cool, till every lil faggot who smokes a joint a month thought he needed one and now rides it everywhere thinking he's a hard hippy.

i wouldn't get just a new deck if you are looking for better performance. The trucks, bearings, and wheels are the most important part of your setup. So if you already have a decent deck and are looking for better performance you might want to get some new trucks and stuff. Let me know how long your board is and how wide it is and we can recommend a good setup for it.

sorry, i misread your first thread. But my main idea is still the same. Maybe buy a blank deck that fits your needs and then spend most of your money on the other parts. PM if you want me to take a look at stuff and help you create a good set-up.

these boards are pretty expensive, but they're some of the best out there. since u live in nyc, it would be perfect. the decks are completely, 100percent UNBREAKABLE. so if it happens to be run over by a car, there will only b some damage to the trucks and wheels. for you, i would suggest the pro 40 since ur tall. i have the clear 29 and love it. but it would be way too small for you. you should DEFINITELY buy a flexdex. totally worth every penny.

Hey, if you wanna longboard, that's your choice. There's always going to be someone to put it down, or say "it's mainstream" - whatever. I have a fucking blast on mine, and I think NYC is a great place for one.

That's your opinion and that's fine dude. Doesn't mean everyone's going to agree with your conclusion.

Just because a lot of people do something doesn't mean "it's played." People need to stop acting like they are so cool that they won't do it because everyone else does it. It makes me sick. Maybe the reason everyone does it is because it is actually really fun and a great way to get around. Can everyone please get over themselves and stop trying to be different and unique just for the sake of being different and unique?

yeah im 6'4 and ive got a 41" deck, its a pretty good length for me. from my experiences, a 40-42" deck with a kicktail, some soft (under 85a) 70mm wheels and generic abec 5 bearings and generic 150mm trucks would be pretty good.

someone is hittin the haterade a little hard longboarding is sick im sure only a few kids do it to try to look like a pot head you can tell who they are cuz they also ride up the hills
