Longboarding Help

So I got a longboard from my brother (48in. Barfoot) a week aho. I love riding it, it's sooo nice, but I have a minor problem. I don't know how to stop. n00b, I know, but it's making me mad. I only cruise around my street, but when I need to stop I make a big u-turn, then hop off, and sometimes that doesn't work so well. I feel like there is an easier way, so can you help me?

Balance with one foot on the front of the board, and drag your other foot on the pavement until you come to a stop. Try it slow at the beginning, then gradually practice it on high speeds.

yea everybody got the foot drag down.

once you get more into it you can control speed by how sharp/hard you carve. wide slow carves with lots of negative energy transfer to the ground will slow you down as well.

the process of dragging your foot is called foot braking and is a very important step of learning. the next step would be learning to slide. this is used at higher speeds to slow down or stop completely.

I kinda use a modified tiger claw to stop. If you are regular: 1) Step off with your left foot, off the right side of board. 2) Keep right foot on board. 3) The front of the board will flip up. 4) Catch board with your left hand. 5) It takes a bit of practice, but looks cool and is eventually easy to do.

If you had a real skateboard you could powerslide. That is a lot funner. I never understood the whole longboarding thing. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

you can powerslide on longboards too. It doesn't make much sense at first, but once you get your wheels to break free from the pavement its easier to understand.
