Longboard

I want to get into longboarding this summer. right now im am thinking of getting the kracked skull m1, but im not sure on the length. I want to use it for cruising, and some bombing hills and carving. If it helps i'm 5'7 and 135 pounds. Are there any other good bang for your buck boards out there that I should look at?

flexdex and landyachtz are good for ordering online...

plus a lot of skate shops carry Loaded , which are expensive but good quality

Get the 46 incher. I have the 40 inch M1 and I really regret not going bigger. Because it's a dropthrough deck you lose 6 inches of standing space on either side.

Definitely go 46 inches.

ya that would be good i have a 46 and its pretty good im looking for something a bit smaller for my next purchase though

my friend has the m1 in the 43 inch version, and it's sick. i've ridden it quite a bit, and it works great for both cruising and bombing hills. i'm about 6'1. even if it's true that you lose 6 inches of standing space, i thought that it was fine. unless you're gonna grow a lot in the next couple years, i'd say for your size go for the 43. i have a rayne dropthrough board and they perform pretty similarly.

check about abec 11 biltin bearings. i have them, and they are sick. everything is "built-in"

Sector 9's aren't horrible but everyone has them and they have no soul and no fun-ness.

They're the equivalent to Public Enemies. Everyone rides them, they're available at sportchek, they're OK for a first park ski but they're really not fun or exciting.

Thanks. I figured that was his thinking... why not explain the post?
I got a Sector 9 as my first longboard... it works great for getting around town and stuff. Haven't had any problem with it yet.

i started out with a landyachtz bamboo pinner and i loved it. i recently upgraded to a loaded dervish, but my point is look at landyachtz, their boards fuckin rock and there well priced and baller as fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

ya thats excatly what i did, but now looking back on it i wasted a lot of money on my landyatchz. Landyatchz are pretty nice boards dont get me wrong, but they just ride like shit. i mean i could make a board that is just about as good as a landyatchz. go for a loaded if u have enough money. if u end up getting into the sport u will end up getting a dervish anyways.

i dont have enough money for the loaded. but i have heard that the KS is alot like the dervish, but stiffer. so i am thinking the 43' but can you still carve a bit on a 46?

Wtf? Sector nines are dope as fuck..
If I were you Id step right to the top and get a loaded dervish. I messed around with the cheap stuff to "See if I like it" and hands down you will like it. If you like to have fun, longboarding is where its at.

Have you looked into legendary longboards? if not, please do so, they are imo the sickest longboards around. totally custom to whatever you want to make it, and with about 4-5 wood options as well. their site isnt the best, but it can give you an idea of what you want, and then just email them and they will make whatever you want happen. its also cheaper than loaded for the most part, and more high quality material than ks. pm me if you have any questions about them! heres mine, which is basicly the same size and feel of the dervish:

forgot to add, mine costed 200 fully loaded with everything and set up with the custom grip and dye job, a very good deal!

How tall are you?

I have had the 46" M1 for a few years now and its still fucking rocking it! I would only suggest going smaller is you want to do a lot of sliding (as i have found that 46" is a bit of a bitch to slide with soft tires).

I'm the same height and i love having the 46" version. I wouldn't want to go any shorter.

what kind of riding do you do with it mostly? I'm just thinking the 46 might be too big for carving. is it worth it to upgrade to the scimitar and bigger wheels?

i've never ridden a scmitar but i do lots of cruise and hill carving on my m1 and its fucking sweet :)

so noiw im thinking about spending the extra money and going with the scimitar

trucks- randal RII 180

wheels- 75mm BigZigs

sound like a good set up? but i cant decide on the 42 or the 44.

you can't go wrong with the 44...a longer board means a longer wheelbase which makes the ride smoother which is never a bad thing

a longer wheelbase equals a larger turning radius though, which makes carving and high speed corners a lot more difficult.

i dont think 3 inches of length is gonna make a huge difference. the style of board, hardness of wheels and tightness of trucks are really what affect how the board performs.

my board has really soft wheels, so its a super smooth ride but sometimes slower, and harder to slide with.

Before you set your mind on the scimitar, look at MHS bucksavers. Mile High Mark has some awesome setups at ridiculously low prices, he updates the boards every week or so and if you have a question about any of his set up's just email him. He will respond fast and he knows his shit better than anyone on NS.

Here's the link to MHS: http://www.milehighskates.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=28

Good luck with your purchase

does anybody know the difference in flex between the M1 and the scimitar? i have heard the M1 is felxier, and i think i want that for caving and cruising

if you're doing all that go for anything between 38-45.

anything longer and you're going to be pissed about carrying it around

anything shorter will be sketchier on big hills

sector nine is absolute crap. they make their stuff look really good and sell it for ok prices and then it just falls apart on you. i mean i think they would be ok if you werent using it for serious stuff, but if you want to get into sliding or hills and shit like that they cant be trusted... i was going down a hill at about 25mph and one of the wheels fell off because the nnut holding it on couldent take the heat of the friction. the boards crack after a while and its just over all crap. the bearings die and bust open on you...

spark notes: sector nine are not good
