soo i been into longboarding like the past few years but mostly just rode downhill and carved alot and such but recently watched some edits and got INSPIAD to try to slide. So i tried with my 70a wheels and didnt realize you had to have special hard wheels to slide (lolol) so i been lookin at some either 85a or 90a or like 85 or 83a wheels at 65mm. What ones would be good for slidin easy but not to slidey so i can still do some downhill (nothin huge) and heep control without em kickin out all the time?

I love Bigzigs. Usually run limes as a great all around wheel. Once you break them in a bit they will slide nicely when you want them to, but still let you grip it at other times. If you want a really buttery slide check out the original formula thane'. Nersh and O tang makes some really smooth wheels as well

Ok you have two choices in my opinion, O'tangs and Abec11's.

Otang's

you will want the stimulus, durian, or fat free. The stim and durian are the same wheel except the durian is slightly larger and the fat free is slightly skinnier and smaller. they are all good wheels. Get 86a to 83a's. They slide easily but can be slightly chattery (kind of vibratey) but last a long time and are fairly hard to flat spot (when you slide on one part of the wheel for a long period of time and cause it to become flat)

Abec11's

you will want the 70's flashback, freerides, or any of the other classic thane wheels. you will want 81a to 84a wheels as these slide really smoothly. They are slightly more prone to flatspotting than the Otangs but they are rarely ever chattery. These are also cheaper, but may last not qutie as long as you will getting a softer wheel. Don't let the lower duro on these fool you, they are my favorite sliding wheels and are amazing. Since you are just starting you probably wont have to worry about flatspots also.

Over all i would get the Abec11's. They slide smoother generally (to most people) and are cheaper. You will probably have to order them though as they seem to be hard to find, but you can always find Otangs. Needless to say, good luck

**Also, you should try a pushup slide as your first slide in my opinion, and then try colemans, Just look them up on youtube to learn how to do them

***Pushup slides seem scary but are incredibly fun and are super stable, if you fall off your board by some crazy weird chance, you just slide on your hands and toes of your shoes

****** GET GLOVES AND KNEE PADS AND ELBOW PADS AND ESPICALLY A HELMET!!!! you will probably only skin your arms or knees without them, but it is nice to have them on and be safe.

Whatever you do, don't take this guys advice.

Big zigs are the worst all around wheel ever, they're fast as fuck but they're super choppy when you slide them. Grab some red sector 9 "nineballs" around 80a or some classic thane center set freerides and be done with it. Pink powerballs are a cheap option too that leave nice thane lines.

Next go to silverfish and learn; don't ask longboarding questions a skiing forum full of kids that ride their boards between classes at top speeds of 40 kmh.

Also, skate more, you can slide any wheel.

no

big zigs are widely regarded as one of the worst slide wheels known to man. I don't know about you, but I like buttery slides, not bone shaking chattery slides.

Otangs are overrated, not bad wheels, but there are better.

and in regards to the OP, any wheel can be slid, regardless of duro. your wheels might not be the best, but you can slide anything, you don't need snowballs or slide-a's to get into sliding. You'll find that once you get better you'll prefer a grippier wheel so it's still a functional longboard and not just an icy slide stick.

best slide wheels are

nersh, otang 4press-orange, seismic bootlegs, 69mm yellow raceforms, yellow otang stims although their wear pattern is average and a few other brands.

trial and error can e a good way to test what wheels work for you, the hardness does have a lot to do with it but just because a wheel is hard does not make it a good slide wheel. it comes down to the formula and structure alot too. goo to sliverfish longboarding (the longboard ns) to find all you need.

i'm not all that good, but i have orangatang in heat orange wheels (80a) and they're pretty good all-round wheels, i use them for my daily ride to and from campus and also for some sliding ....

Dont listen to anyone that says O tang, otang formula is some of the worst slide-dedicated thane out there. Flatspot super quick, chatter, and icy as fuck.

Best all around wheels imo, Cult dominators, the lips are fairly easy to break, good duro, last long, smooth slide, grip well, and are fast as phuck.

Best Freeride wheels (Moderate downhill-faster slides), Cult classic, landyachtz zombie hawgz (80a), abec 11 flashbacks/classic freerides, or venom tweakers.

All of them will vary depending on your weight/riding style but you cant go wrong with cult, ly, abec 11, and venom

On my dh board i have dominators cause its a top mount so it grips a bit more already, and i like a drifty wheel.

On my 2 freeride boards i have zombie hawgs on my ly 925, and venom tweakers/sometimes abec 11 classic freerides on my demonseed.

Overall my favorites are the classic freeride. (84a)
