Longboard Shapes

What is the ideal shape for a longboard deck? I am cutting my own out of some 7-ply high-grade birch, the piece is 12"x48" so that's what I have to work with. Its going to be flat, seeing as I can't shape already glued wood. For reference, I am 15, 5'10", 170 pounds, size 12 shoes. I'll be riding these around town, carving hills and relatively flat stuff. +K for help.

sounds like you need a simple pintail

I actually used to make these and sell them, very easy.

first off make sure the grain is going vertically otherwise it will break. and 1/2in ply is a little thin, i would suggest 3/4in and getting a nice sander to shave some off/give it a little shape. make a pattern and use it to make sure the board is even, router the edges. and the harder the wood the better

I can cut two from one piece of wood, so I'm thinking I'll make one pin tail, and one vanguard deck. 10/10 for everyone!

it depends how long the deck is, and if ull get wheel bite, which sucks, but yea i would go 180 trucks with the vangaurd, and idn about the pintail, sry

its gonna break. so dont say i didnt tell ya so. board building is not as easy as cutting out a shape out of plywood. you are gonna need to do a lot more research. good luck

If so, it's okay. I'm only spending $12 on enough wood to make two decks, so it won't be much of a loss if they break.

do some research. learn about fiberglassing and the concept of multiple plys. thats how you make a quality board. also 180 trucks on any shape you choose. 70mm+ for wheels. do more research for the deck. seriously, it will pay off. it's not too hard to build board, but its harder than you would think. like someone above said its not just cuttin' a shape out of a board, so yeah.

sorry for the dub post but I forgot to mention you should put wheel wells in if your using a pintail shape.
