Logging now aloud in Yosemite

I don't believe the 1st or 3rd of those 'bad bills that congress is actually considering'. I'd like to see a real source on those.

I'm glad I got the fuck outa that country. Can't believe what is happening back home. My dad works for the gov and had been on a nice little vacation.

Ya likewise, seriously a huge disappointment. Loving sweden right now though!

they have trees and don't give a shit about grammar

Allowing logging here isn't the worst thing as long as they follow sound practices and not exploit the land which will not happen, because this will be under an extremely close and scrutinizing eye.

sound practices can reduce the inevitable fuel load for fires of downed wood and promote healthier growth of trees. Also some of the best management for certain species of animals is reached through grouped clear cuts for shrubland mammals which is prime habitat for raptors and other bird species.

alot of the general public don't see the positivity of forest management and having timber sales through the national park can really boost their revenue which can support more on site jobs and inadvertently create more tourist traps of the park. just my 2 cents

how has the recent fire affected the park, those visiting it, the surrounding economy, and the national climate? Would the fire have been different had there been logging in the area previously?

How about everyone slows the fuck down, actually reads the damn thing, and does not just blurt out what they learned in their high school environmentalist class?

Why would you write that logging is now permitted in the title when that's clearly not the case? You should work for any of the main stream news organizations.

this dude is a boss for mowing the grass around the monuments while the government shoves their heads up each others asses.

nothing to do with logging but yea...

search

actually no. i live in norway. home of the free and land of the socialists. ya i get paid to go to school too. and my government actually works

in school I was taught to use an "attention grabber" or a "hook"

unfortunately I wasn't the difference between aloud and allowed

Would have through this thread would have been made days before if it was getting made. That said I'm proud to be a logger!

JK, I bought a shirt that said that for 75 cents in a the salvation army 10 years ago though.

You're an idiot for even falling for this trap. That article is some straight up misinformation.

First of all, the bill just talks about doing timber salvage on the burned lands, and perhaps thinning operations within the park so as to make it less susceptible to another 200k acre fire, or anything catastrophic of that sort.

Second of all, there will be no sale of national park lands as the article basically tries to tell everyone. Any sale of land will be in other states (none in california) and in areas that are not really being used by the federal government (in states such as Utah and Nevada, where more than half of each state is federally owned land and is underused as hell - states have been asking for this for years)

As for doing THINNING (not fucking logging as the damn article states... jackasses) operations, it's absolutely necessary, not only to make a more fire-resistant forest, but to also promote biodiversity within. As of right now, it's so thick and dense that bears, who need a forest mosaic (meaning different areas of clearing and younger forests, not just old growth) to really live right. Their food consists of things that grow in the understory, and when the trees allow little to no light in for the understory to prosper, the bears and other animals that rely on that will not do so hot, and will go in search of food elsewhere IE: PEOPLES CARS.

So no, this is a very fucking good thing, and this article is putting it off as bad because they are a bunch of hippie idiots who are basically running a litigation company (Sierra Club and Greenpeace both do the same horseshit)

So your school teaches you to lie in order to bring more attention to yourself?

Wow, you have some amazingly scummy teachers...

Take some damn natural resource classes people. Like Dingo and a few others said, this is far from a bad thing. People have been posting this on FB for the past week freaking out, I'm just sitting here shaking my head.

As a lumberjack, THIS YOU IDIOTS. I log on forest service land, and you should be happy me and others like me do it. Natural forest fires thin out forests over time and prevent overgrowth that leads to super forest fires. However, since we humans like to live wherever we want, those regular, natural forest fires have been deliberately prevented, resulting in a lot of land that is prime for massive fires that arent even healthy for the forest. The goal of conservation logging and thinning is to simulate those regular fires that we as a society stop to save our homes. Logging on USDA lands (forest service lands) is necessary, and without it the forests would be less healthy. In all honesty, the USDI (national park lands) needs to either allow thinning or allow wildfires to burn. If you don't do either, youre not helping anyone.

^besides all the worries about homes and such, it has so much more to do with the overall health of the forest.

Many coniferous seeds require heat from fires to crack their seat coating in order to germinate. Wildlife as well as the forest itself requires a mosaic in order to promote maximum biodiversity. Fires also clear off areas that might be hampering the natural flow of water - especially within watershed areas.

In order for this all to happen, there needs to be controlled burns and regular thinning practices. Private lands do it all the fucking time, and oddly enough, massive timber companies such as Weyerhaeuser own and operate some of the healthiest and best sustained forests in the country (though many are glorified tree farms, where the seedlings were planted in very organized manner)
