Local So Cal Ski Resort looking to make a name for itself.

I've been there before many times. It's a hill not a mountain, and this is actually not such a good idea. East was the only spot there were it didn't take 20 seconds to get from the top to the bottom.

They basically puke jibs, small jumps around the west which can't handle it all due to it's very small size. Mixed with always being crowded and you have no breathing room ever, too many choke points. I've seen on one of the most popular runs a clearance of 3 feet to go between 2 decent jumps that I never saw anyone hit. It was a mess funneling that many people through that spot, especially when visibility was low. The hill is more like dodging dumb obstacles than a park.

Now east is gonna be puked on by small ass rails/boxes in every direction that you are going to have no idea are there before you smack into them

^you sound like a bitch

"wtf are all these terrain park features doing on the runs!?! I'm trying to carve here!"

Not sure how I feel about this. Last season was awesome because they didn't really announce a park at East but slowly built up a jump line until it was like 10 decent sized (for mt high) jumps in a row with a couple rails in between. No one goes to East so it was awesome, like having your own personal jump line almost. Now that they are officially making East side a park I fear that it will get overcrowded and ridiculous like West side where by noon the landing of every single feature is rutted out into a 5 foot ditch.
But on the other hand it could just split the throngs of people from West in half and then maybe both parks wouldn't be so overcrowded. We'll have to see.

I think that if it is done right it could maybe (and i said MAYBE) catch up to Bear as far as park. I really think that mt. high riders and skiers need to step it up as a whole. When there is a good 40 ft jump that no one hits, its going to show the staff there that its not being used thus its not going to be maintained and it gets shitty. + we need more skiers up there!

Maybe if you saw the shit they put everywhere. I don't count an 8 inch high/4 ft long box littering every single run all that useful. Terrain parks are awesome, but damn every single run is overly bombarded to the point of congestion. That mixed with way too many people lining up/snaking and you better know how to carve or you are going to smack into a whole lot of people/objects.

They litter the hill to the point it makes it unsafe for tons of people. It's even worse when visibility plays a factor. So excuse me if I don't think every single run at such a small place should be carpet bombed by beginner boxes. Resorts have designated parks for a reason, this place just puts them everywhere for no reason.

no excuses

it would be awesome if ski areas put features all over the place

you still sound like a bitch

Ya, I agree. When I go up there I usually find the my friends and me are usually the only people hitting the jumps. And, I still think East will be quite uncrowded compared to West, not only will a lot of people not find out about the East Park, but I doubt the begginers will come over.

How come I never see you skiing? Hopefully I will see more skiers this year. It would be sweet to shred with more people. I have only seen like 2 freeskiers on the mountain, after going 7 times last year.

It depends on if they have the room for it, a small hill doesn't. Big difference from mammoth/mt high.

And like I care if you think I sound like a bitch.

He was the one that tried to put me down saying that. Because I must just love to do nothing but carve because I had an opinion on a hill being congested with too many features. Why would that be something to insult someone about anyway? What like if you can carve you are a loser that can't ski park or something? What about my post was insulting anyone that skis park? I ski park as well as other aspects, so that would be pretty dumb. He just got all butthurt thinking I must be insulting anyone that hits a jump or rail. Not my problem he got all defensive..

Sorry for double post. I was at mt high with friends when I was a kid and couldn't get to mammoth, and when I go back to visit family/friends.

You probably have. I was in a blue Team Mountain High jacket most of the time (coach) and I practically lived up there. We need more skiers in comps too. When i'm able to place in some of the comps (its only my second year hitting the park heavy, and was really my first getting serious about it) there is something wrong. There are plenty of boarders at the rail jams but usually only a few skiers. We do have a couple skiers that kill it though including this black guy who is sick. yeah, we've got a black guy that shreds.

Mt. Baldy slaughters all of those places.....When it gets snow. Baldy and Waterman are the only places in socal with legitimate terrain.

Sounds amazing, Talma and Serena in Finland are quite similar, small hills with quick lifts for serious amount of runs per day and very decked out streets.

I'm new to California so this sounds pretty cool considering it's 6 hours to get to Mammoth from San Clemente. I'll check it out and post a review this winter.

All i know about the place is that they put out some dope pod casts. They make the place look super fun in all the edits.

They put allot into the marketing department. Thats why we get a ridiculous amount of skier visits for how small the place is.

So you are the mysterious fellow that got hired. I heard that they had hired a NSer.
Enjoy San Clemente. You will get to Mammoth way more than you think. Especially with the $80 flights.

Dude, that is 6 hours well spent. If I got stuck in So-cal I would do that drive every chance I could get.

there are rail jams seriously like every week. Then we have other comps every other week. Last years Active Ride Shop sponsor me comp was allot of fun.

haha, definitely not feeling "stuck" in SoCal. I love it here. Learning how to surf has been a blast and working for Powder is a good time.
I suppose I'll have to start posting in the California regional forums now since my move from Burlington, VT/Upstate New York. Any tips for a skier in Southern California are welcomed. Don't worry, I'm already good at drinking and sleeping on the beach.

There is no way that a bigger park at East will make the place insanely overcrowded. Everything I've heard from the park crew has indicated that the park at East will be mostly decent sized jumps. And NOBODY hits jumps at High. Remember the 60 footer at the bottom of East last year? How often did that thing get hit? The only people i ever saw hitting it were the few people I ski with. There's just no way that the gapers at West who love riding onto 8 foot flat boxes will suddenly flock to East to hit some 70 foot tables.

Personally, i couldn't be more stoked for a bigger jump line at High, and if it drags over a few legit riders from Bear or Mammoth, all the better.

I have a ski lease in Mammoth, so I make that drive 2-3 weekends a month. I usually leave at 4 a.m. to avoid traffic. It usually takes me about 5:15 minutes with no stops, driving safely(i.e. around 75 or less).

I hit every jump in the line at East last year and no way any of them were 60 feet, unless they built one up insanely for the last 2 weeks and I missed it.. The jumps at East were perfect last year. Floaty and mellow, and actually set you up for a decent landing as opposed to the norm at Mt High where it doesn't really pop you right and always sends you backseat.
Mostly decent sized jumps sounds awesome though thats just how it was last year and it was sick. I liked when they had that flat box shoved on to the jump for a couple weeks, you could hit it with so much speed and take the landing so deep.
Its nice to have a mellow day on east side and get away from the zoo that is Mt High, I just hope it stays mellow. I'm wandering if they are really gonna revamp it or if they are just pretty much do the same thing but try to generate some hype behind it.

look into the chamber of commerce passes to baldy... it was 40 bucks last year, and i think its 100 this year? when baldy is on it's the best in socal hands down for legit skiing (check cheech's facebook pics for evidence)

mammoth is undoubtedly where it's at as far as a real ski resort - just far, but the drive feels like nothing the more times you do it and condition your mind to it

pm me if u're looking for people to ski with, i'm usually at mammoth more or less every weekend

Seriously? From a born OC skier, don't bother with High. It's way too crowded ALL the time, the jibs and jumps are rutted beyond belief, and it's an ice sheet at night. Sure, it's skiing, and I'll take some skiing over no skiing, but I'd rather just drive the 40 minutes extra to Bear and have a LOT more fun. Bear is a better city, WAY larger mountain (Bear/Snow Summit), and there's some semblance of nightlife if you'd like it, though not much.
Big Bear is so sick, besides the whole Ashbury crowd running around, thinking every skier is a fag.
Enjoy OC, see you around.

I know you have heard this from others, but look into the Baldy passes. 100 bucks is a bargain if Baldy gets snow. If south bowl and the runs to the lot are open, you will not believe you are skiing in Socal. The lot runs have 35-40 degree pitches with maybe 1000 vert.
