LJ Strenio 2012 Season + Injury

LJ is savage. Man you took that hit like a boss!

I'll admit your mood swings from "FUCKING FUCK THIS FUUUUCK" to "it's not so bad I just wish I didn't have a hole in my knee" cracked me up. Not sure if that makes me a bad person...

That was completely fucked. Even attempting a 6 onto that rail is nuts. Glad he made a good recovery and comeback

That was tough to watch! I'm abroad right now waiting to get a flight back home for an operation on my hand after breaking 3 metacarpals. I feel bad, but I'm sure LJ felt much worse, if he can come back strong I know I can.

Props LJ, you're the man, stoked you've had so much success this year.

holy shit... he handled that so well though. if that happended to me and i saw my knee i would of passed out. lj is the man

Just to show how gnarly it looked:

I took this picture about 24 hours after the crash when he was in the Utah hospital. Pre-surgery, obviously (he actually didn't get surgery for a full 2 weeks after breaking it). You can't see the hole where the rail hit at this point due to the extreme swelling, but before all the swelling the knee looked concave due to the fact that the knee cap was gone. Also, I can't find the pictures of it but after a few days, the bruising and swelling spread literally from his hip to his toes.

LJ, if you're reading this, can you shoot me a PM? I busted my kneecap into a few pieces back in 2010 and I have some questions about your injury and recovery process. Kneecaps are a bitch to hurt. Keep on slaying dude

Hell yeah LJ. I lived with LJ last year when this happened and I already had extremely high levels of respect for him, but after seeing him persevere through this injury has made me have even more respect. The pain you see in the edit is obviously excruciating, but what you don't see is all the pain he had to deal with after the injury, before, and after the surgery, physically AND mentally. He worked harder than I have ever seen anyone work to get back to where he is today. I'm so stoked to see him back on top. Just proving why he is one of the best in the game! Keep slaying mah duuhhdd!!

Holy fuck, that was a balling attempt. LJ had it, he is good enough to push it. It sucks when an injury crushes your soul. I have been there, but never ended a season luckly.

I just want to quote this, because I hear this a lot

"I never get hurt"

'' that's the end of my season , at least ''

FUUUUUCK , FUCK THIS , I'm sorry I'll try to stay calm''

that made me chuckle haha I'm sorry.

that was really brutal to watch

I probably wouldnt have been able to watch it if he hadn't come back this year. Because I knew he was going to be able to ski again, it was viewable

Some of that was pretty hard to watch. I've taken some pretty hard bails but that sent shivers up my spine.

Good to see him back though. Always enjoyed watching the TC videos, actually, that's really what got me into park skiing. Mad respect for LJ.

I could imagine that unbearing pain and how difficult it is to realize that your kneecap is shattered. It's amazing how he recovered from that injury.

So inspirational to see a man go from questioning if he will ever walk again, let alone ski, and then win major contests a year later. LJ, keep it up. So inspiring for anyone who has ever been seriously injured.

I can't even imagine how good it must have felt to win War of Rails after that injury. I hated watching the minute or so after the crash. I am now terrified of the pain it looked like LJ went through. I hope so much that I never mess up my knee.

That was tough to watch.. It all happened so fast too. Seriously though he handled that like a champ. Good to see him fully recovered this season!

LJ, honest question, what was more difficult? Recovering from your entire knee exploding or completing the 12 days of christmas? From an outsiders viewpoint I'm leaning 12 days, but I could definitely see it going the other way.

Honestly LJ you have been my favourite skier. And I have to say you handled that like a man, I'm glad to see you back on your skis stompin huge tricks, winning comps and showing your dedication to it man. You are the best skier out there .

i kind of like how there isnt a pt montage i mean it really shows just how determined lj is. seeing as the doctors said he wouldnt ski again he never stopped and decided he was going to make an epic comeback and document it all and dramatize it he just did it and now hes back. it makes you appreciate it even more cause you really have to think and realize all the work and pain he must have gone through just to do what he and we all love.

i just never want to be in that situation. unreal that he handled it so well, i would have been in tears or passed out

Ahhhh that was so brutal to watch. That being said, LJ is a fucking beast; big ups for being positive and making a strong comeback! Keep killing it man

I had a hard time watching that. Brutal. Can't believe he's back, that's more heart that I think I would have ever shown.

I shattered my knee cap into about 6 pieces on a stupid d-f-d rail too. It sucked. 5 operations and about 2 years later I could finally start to ski again so props to LJ for getting strong and back into skiing so fast.

Watching him take that mask on and off a million times in the intro was quite annoying. However that fall was insane and I can't imagine the pain. I hyperextended my knee and it hurt like a bitch I can't imagine what it feels like to blow it up
