Living With an RA at the U

So I'll be a First-Year student at the U this year, and I just cleared the waitlist for the new Marriott Honors Building. I have a choice between living there, or at Sage Point.

The suite layout is the same in both situations, although there is a kitchen in the Honors suite--I have my own bedroom, and share a living room with 3 other people. On one hand, the new Honors building looks pretty amazing, and I would meet a lot of new people. On the other hand, if I stayed in Sage Point, I would have one of my best friends as one of my roommates, and I would be closer to HC, as well as most of my friends who are going to the U next year. If I do stay at the new Honors building, however, I would be rooming with the RA for that floor, along with 2 other students that I've never met.

So I was wondering if anyone here has ever roomed with an RA, and what I could maybe expect if I choose to live there.

Thanks

yo man here's the truth. i became really good friends with an RA in another building when i was living at shoreline ridge this year. most of them are chill, but they are doing it for one reason, to pay for their school. that means they don't break the rules, because then they can't pay for school. therefore, you can't break the rules. but that's just a general rule of thumb, could be different, but that's what i'd expect from any RA

go to sage point, meet way chill people. plus what's it matter if your in the honors dorm as a freshman, i'm pretty sure you still have to get either the unlimited or one of the block meal plans and will be eating most of your food at the HC, and none in your kitchen.

Honors building is cool and all...but it would suck a bag of dicks to live with the RA

Whats the name of the RA?

Living with your best friends would be pretty sweet.

Are you planning on having a meal plan? If yes, then absolutely live in sage point. That would be such a shitty walk from the honors building to the HC

They didn't say a name, just that it was the RA for the First Year Floor.

And I think I'd make my own food quite a bit, but I feel like I would still want a meal plan (probably the smallest one with transfer meals, since I think the Honors building is closer to the Union than it is to HC).

I'm leaning towards the Honors building... I feel like studying during finals week would be a lot easier with fewer distractions (because most of my friends would be on upper campus). The building is also pretty much HC minus the food (convenience store, lounges, pool tables, etc)... Idk, I just know that I have to decide soon.

I didnt think Id ever find another person living in the new honors community on this site. yewww Anyway, I have no insight on what living with an RA would be like. It could suck.. On the other hand, I feel like its sweet to have a more academically serious environment in your dorm room. That way you can party elsewhere, but the distractions in your room will be minimal.

Also, we all know that finding a job right out of college isn't easy. So the best thing they say you can do is not only have good grades and whatnot, but also to engage in a lot of extra curricular activity around campus. And I know that one of the main purposes of this honors community is to make it really easy for students to get involved. So I will argue that if you live in the honors dorms, more opportunities will be handed to you rather than in any of the other dorms. It doesn't exactly hurt to start building the resume right away anyway..

Some good insight right here, thanks. So you're going to be in the Honors building too?

^^ I don't drink or smoke at this point, so that's not really an issue.

well if this isn't an issue, just live with the RA for sure. there isn't going to be anything fundamentally different from your experience if you aren't looking to drink.

and I am also living in the honors dorms. 5th floor.

e-mail the housing department and beg them to let you house in chapel glen, your first year will be exponentially better

Haha so much this...chapel always has something going on. Don't take your freshman year too serious. It's going to be your most fun and load bak year. School and life just gets more serious from there on out.

does the new honors building have its on cafeteria? I heard that, that place would be the tits if it did. Going up the HC every day doesnt sound that fun ha

Thats pretty sick actually, but I mean thats half the beauty of living on campus is not having to make food. I guess if you're into making food then thats tight, but when i was a freshman the last thing i wanted to do was prepare food.

Yeah it kinda sucks, but whats nice is that they dont require us purchase a meal plan. So at least we can live the real apartment life.. kinda.
