Living out west

I'm want to take a year off of college to go out west and ski. My biggest problem is finding a place to stay. Do any of you who live neer good resorts need a roommate? Message me if you want to rent out a room or if you've got any suggestions.

just work/live at a resort. Most resorts have employee housing, alta, mammoth, exc. You'll be able to walk out your door and go skiing, just find a night job scrubbing toilets

it's defnitely easy to find housing in a resort town IF you show up a couple months early, at the end of the ski season or in the summer. If you show up at the beginning of ski season the chance of you finding a good place or a place at all is slim. My suggestion would be to look in the local paper to get an idea of prices and what is available, then call to arrange some time to meet potential landlords. Or try and get hired by the mountain prior to the start of ski season, then you can arrange staff housing thru them... If you are just planning on showing up in a ski town and then looking for a place to live, I would arrange for a place to stay for your first 2 weeks ( at a hostel is the best or a friends)...that way you aren't in a too much of a rush...good luck.

The will to do. The soul to dare.

i got a job at mammoth, they have employee housing, and ym boss hasnt given it away yet, but hes going to a thte end of this month and i think its prolyl first come first serve if its your first year (and theyre pretty short on housing)...but he said its pretty easy to get housing as long as you call early (liek nowish) and have people to stay with...if you're serious abotu mammoth id go on their forums and see whats there

You can rent a room from me in Las Vegas. It sounds stupid but everyone in my crew got nearly 100 days all spread across some of the sickest resorts and parks out west. We road trip every single week.

We rode Mammoth, June, Heavenly, Sierra at Tahoe, Kirkwood, Northstar, Alpine Meadows, Bear Mountain, Mt. High, Park City, Snowbird, Brighton, the Canyons and a shitload of other resorts. There's also a small area just outside of town that got over 400 inches last year and has a super fun scene, a good place to go between road trips.

Plus being employed here beats the fuck out of working some shitty job at a resort.

dude im gona be a "demo technician" which mean i "HAVE TO" try all kinds of gear and skis...he said i could work 3-4 day weeks if i wanted...and he said i get planned "ski breaks" during the day (this was also said in the 6-7 sentance long job description)

I'm not saying that there aren't benefits to living and working in Mammoth. I was just putting it out there in case someone's interested.

By the way the part they didn't tell you about.....

You have to take shit from a bunch of richey bitch LA assholes every day you go in to work. They will insult your intelligence, call you names, talk down to you and generally treat you with no respect. Once in a while one of them will throw you a tip after he is done degrading you and expect money to make up for his denigration. And hope that you get to work with skis and not boots, otherwise your day is filled with toe jam.

All of that sucks but truthfully by the time you get to the top of the chair it won't matter. You'll be in Mammoth for cryin out loud.

ahah whatever, im a better skiier than they are...plus ill make them buy the most useless ski...make sure it ahs alot of fancy shit on it (that stabalizer hting on salomons)...and make it too big for them so they can't turn

STRONG the force is with this one ^. It took me half a season of shop work before I figured out how to really fuck with people for being assholes.

Some of them are really cool though too. I have met a lot of guys who work Hollywood production and they always seem cool. I'm talking like grips, and crew and camera operators. Producers and directors have been amongst the biggest douchebags I've met in Mammoth.

Anyways, the Vegas offer stands if anyone finds themself interested.

I wish I could take you up on that deezl, I'm freaking out right now and I wanna drop out of school. I got 6 courses spread out throughout the week and work 3 nights a week, I'm not even gonna have time to fart this semester, let alone ski, other than sundays.

It's all about the laps on half days brother. Work and school days are when I stay here in Vegas and go to the local place. No one in this city can ride steep tight trees so they are all mine and always fresh.

Can't you take some of your classes online? That saves me a lot of time?

None of my classes are offered nights or online this semester, my major is kinda specific (just switched to it) there will be a 3 hour window on tuesdays and I'll have friday nights and sundays to do stuff, but mid semester they will prolly be schoolwork and not skiing. I guess I'm only gonna really miss the first 2 months of season but it still blows.

Quit crying, you live in Utah, and the season doesn't hit its stride until Mid Dec. anyway. You'll be fine, keep ya head up bro.

School is way more important. It will give you the means to keep skiing for the rest of your life and not be one of those sorry "I used to be a really good skier back in college" types.

Deezl sorry but you're my hero. I just went back and checked the online course listing and I could change one of my M,W,F classes to something that fufills the same Gen Ed requirement, SO BAM ONLINE. THEN I checked my next class and it didnt list last time because it was full or something but all of a sudden BAM that ones online now too. HAHAHAH SOrry im stoked I got M,W,F mornings to ski now. Anyway I gotta goto work I'm gonna be late

count it...now lets all go ski out west...like the thread says

If you show up before November, which it sounds like you are, you'll have no problem finding housing. Right before the resorts open is absolute dead season in resort towns. Also you'll be able to go to all of the job fairs in October.

I'm thinking about taking a year off after this year of schoolin and moving out west....... Idk what I'd do out there yet, but I figure the more $$$ I save up now, the better off I'll be when I do it.

Like Warren Miller always said, "If you don't drop everything and move to a ski town this year, you'll just be a year older when you do."
