Little help

Ok, so a little hill by my house had an airbag yesterday. If you haven't ready from my previous posts...my parks skills have taken quite a hit since I graduated college. I haven't had much time in the park the past 5 years. So like I just said, yesterday I had an opportunity to hit an airbag for the first time. First off, let me just say that......that was the one of the most fun things I have ever done! Soo much fun. It was a decent jump, about 12 feet high, very poppy. So on to my help request. I wanted to really work on my spins. However I noticed that no matter how hard I I try to spin, that I seem to spin very slowly in the air. I can only manage to rotate enough for bearly a 720, landing on my side. Like I said when I watch the video replay of it, I pop, really use my upper body, to try to spin, and continue look over my shoulder. However I spin really slow, and usually end up landing on my side. This was strange to me because by the end of the day, I had double backflips on lock pretty well. I did about 10 of them in a row, landing on my skis every time.No idea how double back flips can seem easy but I can't manage to land a 720.

That's what I did...the airbag guy was makin fun of me because I had my stance so wide, and wound up big time, but would spin sooo slow. But then I huck doubles? I had never even done a single back flip until yesterday. I know its not to snow, but the feeling I got when I landed the first one to my skis was AMAZING!

I wish I had it..the video was taken by the airbag company. They had a monitor that you could look at, right after the jump, but I don't believe it was recorded. Basically I would stall out, or spin really slow. Could barely get around a 720. Forget about cork, as every single time I tried to spin cork, I would end up landing on my back. I still don't understand how to come out of being corked, and not landing backseat or on your back. I had no instruction because I was the only skier there. I wish there was a skier there, that was a lot better then me, so he could have given me pointers. Same thing with lincoln loops...I would try to set the spin....get upside down and end up stalling out. But right after I could land a double backy?? Makes no sense to me. I always thought back flips were going to be really hard to learn. This was the exact opposite. The first one I tried I came up short and landed on my stomach. That's when I figured out to bring my knees closer to my chest and kind of kick my feet up over my head. After I figured that out, the double came right after, and I could put it to my skis every time. All of this makes no sense to me. I just seen to get way out of balance in the air when trying corks or spins.

Hmm, sucks that you couldn't keep the video. Just wonder do you spin as slowly on the trampoline or on the ground. Are you carving out the jump, i think that maybe will slow down your spin.

we probably need a vid but how were you leading your spin? ie with your head, shoulders, or legs?

No on the ground, and tramp I can spin fast. It just seems like its harder for my to whip my skis around once I am in the air. No carving, no speed check just straight into the jump,

My head, and that seemed to be part of the problem. Because I spin to my left..so I wind up..pop/spin off the lip, and I become out of balance in the air along with spinning slowly, and usually land of my left side.

The whole time, and when I am in the air..i'm thinking to my self "cmon! why arnt I coming around faster" then boom I land on my side.

I have no idea really, but you can try to set the spin as soon as posibbly so you don't cath your tips on the edge of the jump. Don't know if this is your problem, but may help

that's the best description of what I was doing. I would try to set the rotation, lead with my head, and my skis just seamed to kinda slowly follow me, I would get out of balance in the air, barely enough for a 720 while landing on my side. That was me hucking it as hard as I could. This was a decent sized jump, obviously big enough for doubles, yet I could hardly spin. I have always had problems whipping my skis around, as old school tricks like twisters where hard for me. My legs just kinda seem to get paralyzed in the air...I dunno its odd.

try to keep your core and your quads flexed and keep your skis with you. if they drag behind it will slow your rotation down

i work at a resort with an airbag so i usually hit it about 20 times per weekend. and most airbag jumps are super poppy so that you always land in the center of the bag. since these jumps are so poppy, it is not easy to spin on a vertical axis. dont worry too much
