Little guy, big skis

just wondering what some of you other small guys thought about riding big skis. most sweet big mountain boards only come in sizes around 190, like the EHPs or comi-kazis, so on and so forth. I am a pretty small guy at 5'8 and 135 lbs. but do come from a racing background, and am a strong agressive skier. I have skied 180s before with no problems, but would it be possible to step up to a 190 in a wide width if i planned on skiing anything besides open bowls?

i'm not gonna go into details cuz im heading out, but longer skis make you a better skier in the long run, now 190 for your size, might be pushing it, look at some skis more in the range of 175-186, but when you're in pow, the longer and wider the better

im your size, i ski 190, as long as you know how to ski correctly (which as a racer you would) youll be fine, its much better in fact, i never ski anything less than 180. as for what the guy above me said, it will make you a better skier, but i wouldnt say the wider the better. coming from a racer, id start with something between 105-115, after that you kind of have to change how you ski. 105-110 i think is the most versatile width, narrow enough to get on edge easy and cut through crud, wide enough for float. commit, get the longer ski, youll be glad you did

true, dont go out and buy something thats 140 underfoot, you have to figure out whats best for your size, I'm 6'2" and 180 lbs, and I think 140 underfoot is pushing it a little, but it also depends what kind of pow you're riding too

I'm just a bit shorted than you and I ride on 170's. 190's just sound way too big, but I supose it's down to personal preference. I'd demo some different sized skis and see which feels right for you.

im 5'10" and 135. I have elizabeths and also come from a racing backround. They actually feel short but i do ski the east so im afraid to go too big. If i skied out west i dont think i would have any problem on 185s or 190sh

try the EHP in 179 or 186 for next season. deffinatly a wicked ski and you dont have to go all the way to 193. i'm 5'7 and rode erics personal 179's for a couple runs in whistler this summer(claim) and it was honestly a really fun ski, and i felt like that was a pretty good size for me. I think i could handle the 186 in different conditions for sure. With the stiffer tail and slight rockered nose it felt pretty perfect and could deffinatly charge the big stuff. deffinatly check them out for being a smaller dude.

thanks all for the advise, especially dave. probably should should have included that i have spent the last two seasons on 168 gottamas, but then took out a pair of 180 seths, and saw how much better they floated, and wondered how big i could go for a powder only set of planks.

maybe someone said this already (didnt read the above posts) but at your weight, i dont think you need a big mtn carge specific ski.. i know youre agressive and come from a race backround, but a ski like the 179 seth or 180 moment tahoe would work well.

i would def jump on the new ehp if i were you. that ski rips, i thnk you'd be really happy with it and can try it in different lenghts, go demo them, you'll prob be really happy
