Listen to Bob Dylan instead of Bob Marley

Dylan does qualify as a musical genius... but this is obviously a piss-off-newschoolers thread because this kid has always made those then sat in front of his screen delightedly beating off to all the anger and hate you throw at him. All of you children need to take a second to watch the movie "I'm Not There." Its a bio-pic sort of movie, and it shows Dylan throughout his man "lives" played by many different actors and actresses. You'll see why Dylan is one of the most inspirational artists of all time.

If you think about it they are both about equal but I seem to like Bob Marley alot better just because his music is so relaxing and always makes you feel better. They were both ok guitarists but very good at sending messages through their music.
 
dylan had more of an overall influence on pop music/ pop culture. marley is probably more loved and revered world wide. they are both badasses and classics, and to suggest that you should listen to one and not the other is pretty silly.

i think bob dylan is overrated, marley is way better imo. and dont go around sayin shit like bob marley is for little kids, and he didnt get the toe amputated because he didnt believe in that shit, he was free and natural, and against his religion.
 
Let's not say "listen to bob dylan instead of bob marley." Let's say "listen to bob dylan and bob marley." I like bob dylan better and i think he was an incredible songwriter. However, I'm not going to say that Bob Dylan is better, because that is a matter of opinion. Save the hate on bob marley. He made awesome music that focuses on positive messages. They're both great musicians in my opinion.
 
hahaha best thread name ever, i concur one hundred percent! I saw dylan in concert when i was like 12 in a bball arena, it waslike the worst venue and acoustics but a once in a life time experience, my dad was like you gotta see him who knows when hes gunna die
 
bob marley and jimmy hendrix both are overrated. their music is good but i get so sick of people listening to them and thinking they are being so original and cool. like last year at school, i think i saw atleast 30 bob marley/jimi hendrix drawings and paintings in the halls, and even more people being all original and wearing their shirts.
 
Well I'm just going to use an example, but when I was really little (before any assumptions about race/color/beliefs were implanted into my brain), I liked Bob Marley. A lot of people like it because it's the first reggae they've experienced/listened to, and it's common to hear because of it's popularity. Jesus, just appreciate music for what it is, not who you think is better/worse.

both are good, but bob marley is no pussy. He goes deeper then just his music, his whole outlook on life was a great one, wake up and live, be free, peace and love and respect. If everyone tried to follow that this world woulnt be so fucked like it is already
 
i heart the bobs. this is actually interesting how people try to draw lines between the two. there's a really cool album called 'is it rolling bob?' with a bunch of reggae artists covering dylan tracks. the liner notes go on to say that marley had a lot of respect for dylan because they both stuck to their guns on their religion. marley had a lot of respect for dylan, especially in reference to dylan's "gotta serve somebody." oh and to the people talking shit on dylan for being a "dick", you try being idolized in pop culture for 40 years. dylan never wanted the fame, he just enjoys writing and playing music that much, to hell with all the peripheral fame bs.
 
Is it really fair to compare two artists from completely different genres? I think that you are stating an opinion, which is not necessarily shared, and by assuming you opinion is correct, you show that you yourself are somewhat narrowminded. For someone with such strong opinions about people and music, you appear to be a little ignorant.
