Rant:

If you are considering getting one...why? If you want to stand out socially...uh okay, kind of a cheezy cry for attention. FYI people will judge you for it. I used to be all emo when i was a freshman in highschool. I would always tell my parents that people should look past my attire and see the person inside, and if they lacked the capability to do so they were ignorent. Boy was i wrong. Once i cleaned up my fucking act and learned about first impressions i wouldnt be caught dead looking like a degenerate.

Kids with strange peircings think that they 'get' something the rest of the world doesnt. They think they are masters of the social universe because they have stepped outside the system, chosing to be 'unique'...whatever that means. The smiple truth is that not only are emos and goths the biggest followers ever, they are foolish. They are followers because they subscribe themselves to a micro counter-culture, desplaying their desires to fit in through their "Goth Uniform". They are foolish because they are damaging their own image. It takes 7 peices of positive information to refute only 1 piece of negative information given in a first impression. We are judgmental machines, its how we analize our world and its how we make decisions. It is rediculous to think that in a surface convorsation (which most of our life is composed of) people would give two shits who you are on the 'inside'.

Everything I say and do is calculated to gather the largest amount of social capital possible. I wear certian clothes, and act a certian way to elicit the desired reponse from others.

So stop being so concerned with getting away from a social game you cant excape, rather focus on winning.

i have a labret piercing...close to the same thing as a lip ring but not quite.

it was a spur of the moment decision when i was 18. All of my piercings have been spur of the moment decisions and i have had no complaints from boys but maybe they're just being nice :) hehe.

and as far as a guy who has a lip ring it's aiiiight. it doesnt get in the way of kissing or anything. but only some guys can pull it off without looking emo.

lol i wouldnt worry about ppl hating in this thread ahhaha they just hear or see the word 'piercing' and assume 'emo gay fag go slit your wrists.'

ignore it!

I wondered dude, i wasnt trying to rip on you in particular, just the idea of it. I didnt mean to piss you off i just felt a roll commin on so i went with it. Appologies.

My buddy has one. He has become less and less of a buddy since he got it too. Not because of the ring so much, but his general attitude. Plus he got a girlfriend right before. he claims he did it because he was "bored" No one is bored enough to drop poke a hole in their lip, and spend 45 bucks for it. But whatever, its his choice. I think it looks goofy, and I know he did it for attention, but aint no thang.

Plus it makes you look more hardcore.

they are not for everyone.

i could never get a tattoo but i have a number of piercings.

tattoos are too permanent for me, im too spontaneous

when it comes to facial piercings i like to refer to chris rocks song "if a girl has a pierced toung she will probably suck your dick. if a guy has a pierced toung he will proably suck your dick."

its gay but i say do it. if a lip piering is what you want dont let people talk you out of it.

i've always thought of getting my ears pierced, but i dunno. i'm the real deal. no piercings, no tattoos, no necklaces or bracelets or jewerly of any sort, no bleached hair, no big muscles or tight fuckin polo shirts.... i don't know. just not my style.

In my defense i am NOT a bible belt Christian, and I am not the most morally defensable person in the world. Simply recognise the psychologically based reasoning i present.

While you want me to not get so caught up by apperances simple fact is that we are all are. Dont believe me, lets change the context. Are you not more willing to help an attractive person than an ugly one? Think about that cute guy/girl that comes and asks for help from you vs. the fugly alternative. It is a well proven fact that good looking people dont get in as much trouble with the law and when they do their prison sentences are considerably shorter.

Look piercing on your ears and percings on places like your nose, lips, tongue, cheeks, chin deliver two completely different signals. And I, along with most of society, do not find it unreasonable to associate unusual piercings with a choice of alternative lifestyle. Again an extrapolation but one made after much carful observation: People who chose wildly alternative methods of bodily presentation have skeletons in the closet that have driven them to subscribe to a counterculture, all an effort to satiate the basic human need to feel belonging.

My point was that our social programing is unescapable, and it is nothing short of a bombastic claim to state otherwise. We are as much our preconditions as we are our higher mental capacities, and to deny the existance of our judgmental nature is crazy. So fine, fool yourself into thinking that you're the next Jesus, the second (supposed) individual in all of history to be completely unbiased.

However i am a reasonable man, i stick to my assesments because they have served me well in the past if you have some verifiable information of any consequence you wish to impart...then please, preach on.

If only there were a way to tell beforehand. Chicks with them need like a glowing arrow pointing at them so you don't waste your time getting slapped asking them.

I have my eyebrow pierced, and I love it, but I wouldnt peirce anything else...

If you want a lip ring, get a lip ring...but I don't really see them as long term piercings.

I had my lip pierced last year on the left side. I really liked it...my parents hated it. but it defintely takes some getting used to when it comes to eating, drinking, etc. but guys never thought it was that great. It got really infected right before homecoming so i ended up just making it out. but on the plus side, the scar is not even noticable.

i'll probably get it done again sometime this next school year when i'm not working, but eh. whatever floats your boat

ahahah thats a good point.

buuuut

for me it is more like..someone will see i have a facial piercing and ask me if i have any other things pierced and ask where on my body.

in which case a girl can not slap a guy.

I have my left side piereced. At first i talked funny and had a bit of trouble eating the first few days.

It didnt get infected or anything, obviously not everyone likes it (mainly my mother.) Ive been told its fun to make out with.

If you do get it done make sure you get the soap and clean it and also rinse your mouth with sea salt water.

Seems like there are allot of haters on this site about it. I really could careless. I realise its a bit of a fad with the emos and what not. I think having a buch of huge ones looks a bit gross, but I think one or two looks ok.I dont think people treat me any differnt then they did before.

And if you do get one and dont like it you can always take it out, its not like a tatoo and have it for life.

i think one little lip ring on a guy is hot, and sometimes if they are already hot 2 is amazing. But i don't like all of the overdone piercings, like septum or the stretched earlobes.

i got mine when i was wasted in cancun. my girl wanted me to so i was like fuck it. it wasw cool for a little while, but trying to get a job and shit with one is pretty rediculous and i would say its not worth it.

Then why stray so far from the norm?

Free will is a farse. Read anything by Skinner. People do things for reasons, i dont think that anyone went out and got their lip pierced just becasuse. They may cover it up saying "it was just spur the moment" but i believe that the intent to convey a certian message was long premeditated.

I dont doubt that things will change, and our society will draw into the fold outlying appearances for fear of being labeled ignorent. As the times change so will I but we are not there yet.
