LINE SKIS 8 HOLE!

I jsut noticed, as some may have already, that on the Line site, the pcture of testign 05-06 goodies one pair of skis has a 8 hole moutniig system, dreams come true kids!

i think thats its just for the reactor binding so that u can move it forwards or back

but what if people want it center mounted and what if they want it backcountry mounted...how is 8 holes gonna work. skis are different than snowboards....

That's why they made the pattern 2x2. THat way you can mount the binding in any of 3 positions.

if they were gonna do that wouldnt they have to change the distance of the screws between bindings. i think that there would be only 2 positions because if u look at the one on the left( th 4 holes one) the spacing is further apart than the one on the right(the 8 holed one) so the two posiyions wouls be having ur binding screwed in row 1 and row 3. then the other position would be that the bindings are in row 2 and row 4. Just look at the spacing.

row 1 and 3 and row 2 and 4 have the same spacing between each other as the 4 holed ones they have now

No there are 3 positions since ther is equal. spacing between the inserts. YOu can use the front two set, the two middle sets, or the back 2 sets. It's really not that complicated folks.

dude, no. look carefully, the holes on the bindings are the same length apart as the 1st and 3rd row on the 8 holed skis are. that mean u can have two positions, or else 2 screws on the bindings would not go into anything. ud have to make the binding holes closer together to have 3 positions.

if u put the front 2 screws on the binding into the 3rd row, the back screws would go into nothing

exactly...there are only two mounting positions...if there were three, the it would be much less stable since the screws would be so close together...as long as the unused holes are totally waterproof, i think it would be a great idea to have dual mounting points

 
Seriously, this is simple logistics. If you got 8 damn holes that are the same damn distance apart, you got 3 damn postions to mount your damn bindings in. Quit damn saying 2, damnit.

Sim is right if you have 8 holes there are three different combinations for mounting. Look at it this way you can use the firstrow and second row. There's 1. Then you can use the second row and third row. Yay there's two. And you can use the third row and forth row. What? Oh yeah that's THREE positions.

they need a 4-hole pattern at a 'park' setting, more forward mounted. and a 4-hole 'all mountian' setting, where skis are mounted for all mountian. the bindings are easy enough to swap postions if yeah wannna

telestar, I'm agraid you are in fact the idiot. Look VERY closely at the spacing of the standard 4-hole mount and the new 8-hole mount. Do you notice that the holes in the 8-hole mount ski are twice as close as the holes in the 4-hole mount ski? It really is not that difficult. You can have the first and third row or the second and fourth row. There is no way you could fit the second and third row, they are too close together. You were wrong, stop talking about it.

 
I can't find the picture, but wasn't there 1 ski on there with the regular 4 hole pattern? Then assuming you are not a moron or do not have viewing area on your monitor totally skewed, you can see there are only 2 mounting options.

Okay now I see that in fact the picture you drew is wrong. The holes are EQUAL distances from each other. so you can use all of them. If you look at Line's skis this year you can see that the spacing between holes is only a couple of inches. So you use the two sets of adjacent holes not every other set like your picture shows. Why would they make skis with eight hole and only two mounting positions. Line's smarter than that. They know not everyone wants center mounted or normal mounting. So of course they put an intermediate mounting position.

ok, so i guess im gonna have to tell you guys about the inserts before you guys get in a big ol fight. they way the inserts are you can only mount i two different ways. one way forward one way back. so its all cleared up

Oops, it appears I stand corrected. I didnt actually look at this skis themselves. It seemed to me, as telestar said, that if you are going to go ahead and drill 8 holes, it would make more sense to have three positions. Take note upstart companies...

well it would make since to make 3 mounting points if the binding doesnt move up and down itself. but it does, and therefore this is why line only made two mounting points. trust me you will beable to move it to the exact position where you want it. just like a snowboard binding. and for all the reasons i just stated above it save line money and keep things simple and less confusing. am i wrong?

I dont know if its any more confusing the other way, but the fact that they can move anyway is good.

To be fair, you really didnt clear it up. Others, thought the same thing, because either way works, its just a matter of how you see it. But whatever, hopefully the new bindings dont insta-break (I broke 3 pairs in 2 weeks the first time around.)
