LINE REACTORS 04/05: BROKEN

so today at breck i busted my toepeice of my reactors which really pisses me off. i just fell on the landing of the QP and it broke. but...ill just warranty them because i still like the bindings...when it doenst break...

i pre released outta my salomons all the time, it sucked

why not make the toe piece out of some sort of metal...i seriously cant believe Line used plastic there...did they seriously think it was strong enough

This is what happens when you want light bindings, for new school riding you need a heavy binding with a high DIN, we don't need them to be light, i have ridden on many kinds of bindings, and i really don't notice the weight. Platic is the worst for this sport, it is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when it will brake. I think bindings should be made of some kind of metal. And useless pieces can be made of plastic

i agree. i dont mind the weight of the lines at all. i just wish the toepiece was metal or something

I love the line binding, but i'm already on my fourth pair this season. Personally, i think the whole project was a compromise. They used a lot of plastic to keep the weight and the cost down. Personally, I'm amazed that they dont' cost anymore considering how many more moving parts they have then regular bindings.

I'm of the opinion that they should make a bulletproof high end model, say an r14 or something. If they made more bits out of machined aluminum and titanium then they'd be a lot tougher. Hell, they could even shave a fair amount of weight out by using titanium for the springs instead of steel. Would it be expensive, hell yeah it would! I would pay TWICE as much for the binding as long as it held up because as soon as you own two pairs of skis it's already paid for itself. Also, the release action it so nice on them.

 
I am pretty sure you can't make springs out of Ti...it is to rigged....Ti does not flex it will crack before it bends...I really like the bindigs...but I think they should change the design...what if they made the Heel and Toe two seperate parts...like the Looks/Rossi...except with a Pivot toe piece like Rossis heel piece...the toe piece would be fixed and the heel piece would move for different boot lengths...instead of taking out four screws to change bindings to a different ski you would just have to take out 8...basically it would be like a Look with a pivoting toe, more heel adjustment for boot lengths, and would screw into metal inserts in the ski like the current binding you would just have 8 inserts....that would be bad ass

You absolutly can make springs out of titanium. The mountain bike industry has been doing it for several years now. It reacts to applied forces something like 4 times quicker than steel springs at a fraction of the weight. Not only that, but titanium, unlike aluminum and steel, has a nearly infinate fatigue life meaning that it's perfect for springs, especially something like binding springs where they are constantly tensioned.
