Have you skiied them and what is your opinion? I'm looking for my first pow ski and I want it to be able to ski the entire mountain. When the powder gets chopped will the opus still charge? How do they hold up on Groomers?

Just seeing what some of your opinions are on them, as I found a deal on craigslist for 500$ for the 14' in 185cm. I need a pow ski that I can use in all conditions, Should I go for it?

opus is a great ski. its a little bit soft for my liking but other than that its a great ski. it will carve groomers all day and charge the chop.

500 sounds a like an ok deal but id try to find em cheaper

They'll work pretty darn well for you. They're a very quick and response ski that can mach and crush the cut up pow/chunder.

They are not the stiffest, people have remarked about this and it is true especially when you compare to them to SOME of the other skis in that bracket. But it shouldn't dissuade you either. If you're a strong and competent skier then you'll be able to work these. e.g. I've kept right up with skiers on my level riding 191 Gotamas through cut up pow. It requires a looser, more centered stance, but I found it to not be a problem. And while they can rip the short and long radius turns on groomers, when you start going Mach -Potato (thanks Ar6rider) on real firm groomers you can start to get a wee squirrely. But like I said before, any strong (physically and skill wise) can compensate. The SFB and Opus are also just rediculously fun to ride, buttering, surfing, trees, drops, tight lines. I love them.

this will be my first pow ski. 5'11" and 145 i'm only putting on weight. I'm usually in the trees, back bowls, dropping cliffs, hitting bumps, launching off of anything i can find. I'll be skiing at eldora with trips around summit and the san juans as well as steamboat. I like building kickers up at caribou pass and will be doing short day tours close to the front range.

Now considering I'm in Colo and we don't get the most snow, i'm not sure the opus is what i'm looking for. I know the SFB is a little slimmer underfoot and it'd be great one ski quiver for me, but i'm more curious about the opus because I found a killer deal.. Would the opus work for me? Is it too wide of a ski to tear up the groomers and packed pow?

I rode SFB's pretty much the whole time I was CO last winter and I'm a lot bigger--5'1'' 180lbs. The SFB would probably be plenty sufficient for you for powder. I found the 184'' SFB to be shorter than I wanted (but not enough to make me dislike it at all), of course now they have a 190.

I wouldn't say it's too wide. It's really not that much bigger IMO. Groomers you'll be fine with and probably won't have many of the softness issues other people had at time (myself included). Moguls and bumps you're not gonna be destroying as nicely, with that width you're gonna be clanking tips/tails a lot.

The Opus has already been drillled, tell him you'll go $425 or something around there. See what happens.

Love mine and they rip on everything. I was on blends prior and the Opus is much more responsive, floaty and playful. I charge pretty hard on them and haven't felt like they are too soft. While playful, they aren't too forgiving so you need to ensure you stay on top of them... I use them primarily on the east, but had them out in Tahoe and they killed it.

They are brand new straight outta the box, but out of the plastic wrapping. I offered 400 and he said he would go for it, so i'm a little concerned they may be a wall ski or something. 400 for brand new skis is a little concerning.

Thanks for the response everybody! I really appreciate it. I think it'd be a great pow ski with some dukes on 'em for short tours. I like a playful ski so i'm not too concerned about the stiffness. I'll keep ya updated on if I get 'em or not!

check em out before you hand over the cash but i got mine for 400 new from a shop so maybe he just really wants to sell em

if youve got any questions i would just check lines website. theyve got a video review on every ski. for groomers they might get a little chattery but packed pow theyll do fine. and if you found a killer deal then you should go for it.

The Opus is never a ski you "charge" on, regardless of conditions. It's just not what it's made to do. If you want a ski to charge on, look elsewhere

hes my favorite skier, and by charge i mean go fast down gnarly lines which he does in fact do. I see what your saying but idk if you have the same definition of charge. he charges very grtacefully.

Compared to most people, yeah, he goes fast down gnarly line, but as far as pros go, no, he doesn't. Just isn't his style. If you can make it look graceful, you're not charging.

Either way it doesn't change the fact that the opus is absolutely not designed to charge

That's a good deal I guess but nothing to get too excited about. Does it include bindings? If so then its a great deal

i rode bacons all day today, my buddy rode his opus. only 1 inch of fresh pow pow to cut up but, my friend told me to buy the opus instead of the bacon. i rode the opus for a little bit... dude if you're going to be riding powder at all just get the opus, super sick ski.

I demo'd some Opus' yesterday in some lovely japow and they were incredible, had plenty of float in the light stuff, held super tight on the groomers (although all ive ridden for 2+ years is beat up park skis) and were still relatively poppy. If you're doubtful see if there's any shops close to you that tyou can demo some from!

Who the f*ck in the newschoolers forums is gonna be charging harder than eric pollard? Sean petit uses the pettitors which are much softer than the Opus and much less of a "charging ski". You are right that the opus if not MADE for charging huge AK lines but that doesnt mean it cant be done. Just like how powder skis are not MADE to ski groomers. The Opus is made to be a super playful ski and can charge big lines if u want it to it just wont be as good as like the Blizzard Bodacious or any ski made for big mountain skiing.

Honestly, I'm sure there are a bunch of kids who do. Those kids also probably aren't nearly as good as pollard, so they're gonna need a ski designed to charge more than he does. Of course you CAN charge on the opus, the same way you CAN bring a race ski in the park, but the vast, vast majority of people are going to have a lot more fun/be much more confident hitting a 20 foot cliff at mach speed on a ski like the moment garbones than the opus, the same way the vast, vast majority of people will feel a lot more confident landing switch on a twin-tip ski than on a slalom ski

All i'm saying is if op wants a powder ski that can take anything he can throw at it that will let him hit said 20 foot cliff and back slap or otherwise land off balance and not give out on him, the opus shouldn't be his first choice. Really not sure why so many of you are struggling to grasp this/are getting your panties in a knot over it.
