Line Anthems....tips on length?

New to NS...I've been looking at the anthems and read through several threads. I just found out that with symmetrical skis, center mounted, its best to go longer. I'm 5'6" 165lbs. I was told to go with ~165cm...but I have a feeling with the anthems it should be the 171cm or even the 178cm...whats your call? thanks for the help

p.s: what the hell is "bump"?
 
first off welcome to NS

even though your still growing probally. I think i would go with 171cm, are you looking to get this year or the 09's you can check some pics of the 09's here https://newschoolers.com/web/content/news/news_id/1866/

your weight says 178.

Your height says 171 or 178, however, since the Anthems are very flexible and are center mounted they ski a bit short. I'm 5'10 145. lbs. and ski 178 anthems and I love them for park and all mtn. and groomers. They are such fun skis and ski switch so well.
 
Great...so i read even more threads and the Volkl Wall seems like an awesome choice...especially the 09 model which looks sick. I guess with my weight, stiffness of a 177cm wall isn't too much of an issue?
 
im the same hight as you and personally, i wouldnt ride anything over 175ish, id go with the 171s...
 
has anyone ever measured their anthems? maybe you should, because i have 178's and the measure 184. so i might stick to the 171's unless you want a pretty long ski, but once i centered mine its nice to have that extra length...
 
hey guys along the same line as what the initial guy asked, I'm 6'1 and about 170 what would be the best size in anthems for me, cause I have no clue when it comes to sizing, oh and im pretty sure i'm done growing
 
I just measured my 178 Invaders to be 178cm long EXACTLY, and likewise my friends 178 Anthems are also exactly 178cm long, so no idea how that other guy has some that are 184cm ?????
 
well, unless my tape measure is wrong, they are 184. and i also put them up against 178 rossi scratch bcs and they are 6 centimeters longer than the bc's. so unless rossi measures short, and my tape measure is wrong, i have 184 anthems.
 
lines measure longer than most companies, they just measure it differently

and I'd go 178 for both the kids in this thread, centermounting will definitely make them ski shorter than normal.
 
centermounting also make the tail longer so it is harder to push through some powder if your goin to use them everywhere.

im 6'2 and have the 178s and i noticed this huge tail in some heavy powder and such, id say 178 if you mainly use them for park, but maybe 171 if your gonna take them all over
 
Ok I am seriously confused, we both have skis marked 178?? And yet mine measure up at 178 and urs to 184.

Maybe we're measuring differently?

I'm putting them bases up (tips touching to the floor), and measuring along underneath the length along the floor from 1 end to the other and it is exactly 178. Is there some magic here???

Measuring my 171 AR6 they come up the exactly 171, and funnily enough are 7cm shortly lying down.

Can you think of how this is working????
 
Oh by the way, although the 178cm Anthems aren't here right now, I have compared them before and know that those and my 178cm Invaders are an identical length :)
 
i dont know why you are arguing with me. dont try to convince me of something that you have not seen, and i have.

and mthood, i measure all of my skis before mounting.... when i had anthems, they definately measured 178. i measure straight across from tip to tail while the ski is on the floor, unmounted. they were 178. hellbents measured same way, i have 179's, and they measured 184 as was the concensus around the rest of the site.

maybe you're getting a larger number because you're meauring over bindings? i don't know, but me and the other two kids are saying 178. line pretty consistantly stays true to size.

Rossis DO measure a tad short, by the way.
 
no, im measuring the way that guy^ described, bindings down, along the floor. I'll put pictures up with the two skis side by side as soon as i can.
 
in case some of you didnt know, some companies measure their skis before they shape them, and others after, so a 178 before shaping will end up being closer to a 175 or so depending on shape. That is only the case for SOME brands, i know my P3 178's are NOT 178 since I am 176cm's tall and I have a good 3-4cm's on my skis.
 
no man, that's the problem. if the bindings are getting in the way of measure straight across from tip to tail, it can make a big difference..
 
no no no no, i must have typed that wrong. the tape isnt touching the bindings at all...well sort of, i put the ski on the flat ground with the bases up, then measure from the tip to the tail, with the tape flat against the floor. so the tape is touching the bindings, but not bending over them or anything. isnt that how you are supposed to measure?
 
If you put the invaders or anthems (either 1 cos i have owned them both at the same time and they are defo identical length) in a clamp, the clamp would start forcing the ski at 178cm.... that is the maximum length, just how you measure the maximum dimensions of anything, say a car...

Does yours become long because it also includes the curvature over the tips?
 
Actually I've just realised something. Mine were from May 2007, i.e. 07/08 models, but before they were out so to speak, could that mean that for some reason they measure up differently? I.e. they changed it before the final run? Although I doubt this as I thought they kept up the same shape exactly as the previous year. Anybody know?
 
I heard that there was a problem with the Anthems and they had to use some different presses or something that were a few cm's longer, hence why there are some that are 178 and some that are like 181 or something. I could be way off, but I vaguely remember hearing something like that.
 
nah, i doubt thats it or else others would have longer skis, but i doubt that i have the one pair that are longer, but tape measures usually dont lie...
 
the last thing you said - exactly I agree. I now genuinely think that they are different lengths and the reason GLrunner13 gave sounds very likely. Anyway here in England it's 1.45am so I'm going to bed :)
 
mthood.. i measure with the skis unmounted and the base ON the ground. topsheet facing up. then, measure straight across the "boat" from tip to tail.
 
haha, nice, from across the pond...

anyways, this is really going nowhere, i will see if i can find my camera and take some pictures just to prove im mot stoned or anything, but the guy 2 or 3 posts up or whatever reminded me of hearing that somewhere, maybe thats whats going on....anyways...........

im about your hieght and got the 171 and they rip i lost one thou and i have been depressed about it for a couple days now
 
you mean lost as in stolen right? I dont see how you could loose one ski...but then again I havent really skied everywhere either. i will probably end up with 178s although I checked them out at REI...the 178's are huge...plus I dont plan on skiing in powder that much...MN doesn't have much for hills
 
a bit off topic but I think Line measures the ski before they are pressed. my prophet 90 is marked 179 and my chronics are marked 181. However, standing up, they are the same length. the chronic has a higher tip height though so that is why
 
sometimes if you land switch and eject, your brakes will blow off, causing one or two of your skis to go ballistic down the mountain, its not fun, almost lost a watch life that way.
 
The 09 anthems look sick. I just bought some 178 anthems and am waiting for them to be mounted. Im 5'10" 140lbs and the shop guy said I should be on the 171 and I was litterally arguing with him for like 5 minutes to let me have the 178. Off topic, but anyone know how some have blue bases and some have black? It would be sweet if line gave each pair on black base and one blue base. That would be sick.
