Line Afterbangs not designed for rails?

Is there no such thing as a pure jib ski that lasts over half a season?

I bought my Afterbangs in November, with the intention of finally having a ski that would not get destroyed by hitting rails all day. I have not hit any urban with these, only park rails, powder, and general east coast ice.

After one month, the tips delaminated, making the edge come off. Skirack called in Line to warranty, and Line responded that the skis had been abused and could not be replaced.

It is now nearing three months, and this is the shape of the skis:

I'm not overly disappointed in Line, because I understand lots of skis get destroyed easily.

However, I won't buy the "bombproof" Afterbangs again.

A couple questions:

Is this normal for warranties to be this sketchy?

What skis actually will hold up after a couple months on park rails, in case I am forced to buy another pair?

I wouldn't care at all about the shape they are in, except that at this point it is affecting my skiing. My carving onto rails is thrown off and nollies are pretty scary.

Thanks all.

that's fucked up, this pair of skis should certainly be warrantied and i dont understand the legality behind companies advertising someting as a "park specific ski" yet do not warrenty skis when they are used in the way in which they have been designed and advertised.

What is Covered?

Structural cracks on the top sheet, base, core, edge, sidewall due to a manufacturing defect.

Delaminating of top sheet, base, sidewall, edge, tip, and tail due to a manufacturing defect.

What is Not Covered?

Any problem resulting from impact, misuse, abuse, or neglect. This includes but is not limited to rail and rock damage, crossing of skis, etc.

Cosmetic issues including top sheet dents or chips, sun-faded graphics, and edge oxidation or rust.

Ski damage resulting from improper mounting of bindings, including the use of incorrect mounting hardware, or base dimples in the base resulting from improper mounting.

Damage caused by any modifications made outside of the Line facility.

This is from the Line website, and its standard as warranties go. Theres not a company I know of in existence that has a warranty that will replace your skis because of damage done my rails.

I fully agree with your post, most companies will not replace skis but line use to replace skis that were 1000xs worse due to being a ballin company and a great customer service.

Are you grinding a wood chipper? Holy shit. My bangs are still prime so far this year after hitting 90% rails.

same thing happened to my invaders a couple years ago. there was a little gap in the edge at the tip because the edge is a bent piece, not a full circle and after a while it started ripping off so i cut it off and then the base started to chip. only happened to one ski though

next time tell your tech to mount the skis so that the tip with the edge gap is your tail. it will take much less abuse over time. and to the op buy any ski you want off of backcountry.com and you can return in whatever shape for a full refund for ever

i was at vermont the last 2 days on a school trip and i think i saw you on thursday. i remember you because i saw the skis from a distance with all the edges hanging out and was like holy hell those are beat to shit

anyways thats some major bullshit. im not a huge fan of the afterbangs, i think they are one of the worst skis on the market. sorry man i dont know what to tell you.

First: What the hell have you done with your skis to DESTROY them that much

second: It happend the same thing to me with the side edge

Third: you can't do anything with those skis... so buy another pair !!!

I don't know how your skiing or what your doing to these skis. I have a pair that I bought at the beginning of last season. I ski at least twice a week hard on rails plus backyard and I've hit urban on them. Only damage is the obvious top sheet chipping and a tiny edge crack...

Line has been very good to me with warranty. Starting at the original 1260 i got warrantied and upgraded to the mike nick promodel. Then i got 1st gen ep pros and 1 inch of edge pulled out at the tip and they let me get 1st gen elizabeths. My binding pulled out of the elizabeths when i stomped a cliff onto a rock and they replaced them at my request with some bacons. since then i have got propeht 90s, 100s, 115s and a pair of motherships all with no issues ( no rails ) .

having said all that, take care of your fuckin gear, cuz really that shits beat.

P.S I skied park laps at pc like 120 days on the 1st gen ep pros (which are now chronic blends? ) and the only damage was was the edge pulling one inch out of the tip.

That looks really bad ...

Can you post a picture of your bases under the bindings, so I can see how rails affect the bases? :) Thanks.

This imo is a manufacture defecture cause i got mine this season and i was in the park like 35days on the eastcoast (more rails than anything) and they held up fine.

just had an issue with my k2 domains. the one edge was never put together proerly at the meeting point and caused the edge to pop out. i hope they are covered under warranty. porterstahoe.com said worst case i send them back to them. i heard afterbangs get soggy from water over the summer anyone have that problem?

yes and i understand that but it seems like this sort of damage isn't just from using them in the park. I dont see how a rail could make the basses on the tips come apart from the skis in the way they did.

I have just hit a ton of rails...

The side edge is on its way..

I hope to use them until the end of next year. I may have to rip the edges off at some point, but that's alright. I will just work on presses next year in that case.

Sound like the overall feeling is that our sport requires buying lots of skis.

It's a rough outcome, but I will try to hold out as long as possible.

This is true. I just figured the warranty would cover it, that's the main reason I bought the skis at Ski Rack, as you are more likely to get a new pair of skis through a dealer.

Shoulda glued immediately, but whatever. they're fine.

Peace.

i'm curious as to what the damage would look like if you're were on a traditionally constructed ski. like punx or domains or walls.
