hey ns! i have a friend that so completely set on his belief that lil wayne is the greatest rapper alive. he admires the fact that he makes money and thinks he has great music when in reality he needs to create his mosh pit of horrendus motophores of terrible lyricism. when in comparison to lil wayne, the other music of the music industry is 100 times better such as.

from these 10 artists my friend said "i know only the top 2 of those artists whitch automatically makes them suck cock because they are unpopular bitches" that is some incredible disrespect to biggie if you ask me.



the list goes on and on of rappers who can create meaningful lyricism which is actually entertaining to listen to. i dont know aboout the rest of you on ns but rapping about your ego, saying your the greatest rapper alive, slapping bitches, getting money, and wearing skinny pants with vans is not lyricism, it is just vulgur words thrown together creating the lamest excuse for a rap.

it would be nice for some feedback on this because my friend needs to be knowledgable of what rap actually is.
 
play him some real rap saying this is lil waynes new un released song. and when he digs it, tell him its not. or just let him be a jack ass.

Lil wayne is talented, despite what people say. I used to say the exact oppositte, but then I realized how much of a mastermind this guy really is. He's able to put out half-ass music and people just buy it up no matter what. Hell, YMCMB is practically a religion to some high schoolers. As for those other rappers, they will always be the best, no questions asked. That kid should know this and should know his roots.
 
Talent and popularity are two separate things though. I agree with you in saying that Lil Wayne will never be in the same class as the true legends in the game (i.e., Tupac, Biggie, Nas, Rakim, Gang Starr, etc.). Yet, all the YMCMB cats ever spit are metaphors on a catchy bass filed beat. That ain't true talent, it's market research and a whack ass society that values being 'hard' over being semi-intelligent (talking image here). Don't get me wrong, Lil Wayne is smart/hard working (he did get this far), but he is talent level pales in comparison, imo.
 
i agree, lil wayne is a huge piece of shit and his music sucks. it doesn't even make sense. rap/hip-hop is about telling stories and sharing experiences. rap to me and many others is about the words and how they express the words and how you interpret them. since lil wayne is high as a kite 8 days a week, his lyrics make no sense. tell your friend he's a dumbass for worshiping lil wayne and tell him to listen to real rappers like some of the ones you listed as well as:

macklemore

grieves

atmosphere

the list goes on...

My analysis of Lil' Wayne. In general he's a damn bum whose music is mostly empty lyricism, catchy hooks, and bass heavy production. I have no issues with rappers who simply brag about themselves in their raps, that was what hip-hop started as, but he has almost no variety in his rhymes. Granted some of his rhymes truly are clever as hell, "Real G's move in silence like lasagna" if you don't think that's a dope line you're ignorant, he just doesn't focus on making quality music. He is concerned with popularity and money, so he just puts out a ton of music that's way below his potential. I probably wouldn't like his music anyway because i dont like southern rap but he would still be good (ex Im not a big fan of dre or pac cause of the west coast style but i still respect them as some of the best ever). In terms of the people that listen to his music, I've stopped caring about people listening to shallow music. If people only like music because of the beats and the sounds then i have no right to tell them they're wrong, its just not how i think.
