alot of those lines are from mixtapes, where he sampled the same artist's beat, then used a small amount of their lyrics. since it is a mixtape, that means i wasnt made for profit..therefore making the point moot

i have never heard one of those songs by him on the radio, and the reason for it is cause they're mixtapes. only his original songs go on the radio, and so far he's only had 1 or 2. mixtapes are called mixtapes because they take songs and change them a bit. of coarse he uses some lines from people. out of the thousands, probably over a half million, of mixtapes he's ever made that video has what, 20 lines? some of which are 5 words long, that he copied as part of the mixtape. its part of making a mixtape...

my friend grew up in New orleans when lil wayne was also growin up around the same age. Apparently when he was part of the Hot Boys group his mommy wouldn't let him curse in their songs.

Few things.

When you're in the hip hop industry you are studying and writing so much that half the time you forget what's yours, what's not, what you came up with, and what you heard last week. On top of that you're hearing music all the time subconsciously and may not even realize it. I've caught myself writing shit and then realize I was putting down something I had heard on the radio in the background the week before.

Also about the mixtapes.. It's true that alot of times artists will pay homage to other artists by flippin some of their lines or even word for word. That along with recycling beats is just one more reason why the RIAA hates mixtapes and been trying to shutdown the operation for years. Cuz everyone bites Copywritten material in some form or another.

Jay-z is a hip hop great and he's just as guilty. He's spit line for line biggie verses, as well as use verses from bambata and other legends in the 80's. but that doesn't make him any less of an artist in my mind. I honestly don't even think he was aware of it most the time.

With that being said, I'm not coming to the defense of lil wayne. Lil wayne IS faker than pleather. And anyone who knows him, grew up with him, or where he came from will be the first to tell you that. If you listen to him because you think he's a hardcore thug, then I'm sorry to break it to you. but he's not. It's all image and hype. And it sells. so it's obviously working.

But that doesn't change the fact that he makes catchy ass music, is doing his own style, and makes hit songs. so more power to him.
 
Borrowing bars does not equal swagger jacking. Lil' Wayne is a swagger jacker because he essentially adopted the cadence, flow, and posturing of GDK. Weezy is undoubtedly more popular then Gillie anywhere outside of Philly (maybe just north philly). However, anyone who knows the Major Figgas, knows that Gillie was signed to cash money prior to the release of the carter, and is familiar with weezy's work pre GDK, knows that wayne was clearly influenced by gillie. Whether Gillie actually wrote for wayne as he claims is debatable...that wayne sounded like a different rapper and strikingly similar to gillie in '99 immediately after gillie's involvement with cash money is not.

For the record, to claim that weezy has been involved in thousands of mixtapes is outrageous. Just because some shit dj throws a wayne verse over whatever scott storch or timbaland beat is lying around and shouts EXCLUSIVE with delay and reverb 3 or 4 times, doesn't mean that wayne is involved or that it's even an original verse. Anyone who has bought several mixtapes at the same time knows that there is a huge amount of recycled material between them.
 
ok to end this thread, some one post one Rap/Hip Hop artist that has never ripped off ONE LINE OR PHRASE,and has never had a beat that sounds even closely related to any other song,including any other music of any other genre.

and weezy is featured on so many mixtapes that he doesnt care what lines he uses also he drinks so much syrup he doesn't know what the fuck is up anymore...his brain is rotting
