Lil Wayne cant rap.

chinese democracy was decent but there is no way that GnR will ever get back to what they were before Slash, Duff and the rest of the original lineup left... goddamn you Axl for fucking up one of the greatest rock bands of all time... even my dad who is 70 years old likes old school GnR and Metallica... thats how GOOD there stuff was.

lil wayne, is ok... but personally i think i like him better when he is a secondary guy to another artist... like in "I Make It Rain" with Fat Joe... or "Let it Rock" by Kevin Rudolf.... he is almost like Sean Paul or Lil Jon (be advised... i love listening to their stuff)... they are decent by themselves but sound better when in support of someone else.

its hard to hate lil wayne when people are playing soulja boy...now THAT kid has absolutely no talent and his songs make me want to die.

He's already put a huge impact on music. It's an impact I don't like but it's an impression nonetheless.

And for the record I really don't like his music all that much. I just like people hating on something they know very little about even less.

its the impression that people can get away with releasing soulless awful garbage and as long as they have a good concert/video image and get the high school age people to buy their stuff they will make millions.... just look at fucking Soulja Boy... he picked up the same game Lil Wayne has been playing. and is so much fucking worse.

Highschool kids have been listening to shitty music for years. It didn't start nor will it end with lil' wayne

I'm the Fireman

Fire, Fa, Fireman

I got that fire I'm hollering --Fireman from Tha Carter 2 album

I rather count a hundred thousand dollars on a sunday

Watch a football game and bet it all on one play --Best Rapper Alive from Tha Carter 2 album

Dollar holla at ya boy on the ave

And that cheaper eagle is what im known to have

Shit tend to be slow I put on the mask --Over Here from Dedication album

i see no lyrical genius in any of his albums, mixtapes, remixes...anything Lil Wayne is the epitome of horrible art.

This song completely sums up my feelings on Li'l Wayne, and it also happens to be a prime example of hip hop that doesn't suck.

And here's a bunch of other dope shit.

Annnnd this song, not because it's hip hop, but because it's dope as shit... the solo at the end will make you cream your pants. Fair warning.

(i'm quoting this, but theres more to it)

First of all, to everyone posting the same "underground" youtube links, stop it. It's making you look like an asshole who thinks they have a grasp of the underground rap scene. You don't. Your on a skiing website for starters. Alos, just because someone listens to wayne doesn't mean we don't listen to other stuff. I have over 10000 songs, and it is most definitely not all wayne. I just like his music.

I'm not trying to change any opinions, or your tastes, some people hate some music.

I never said Wayne has meaningful, ridiculous flow. I see his music as entertainment, his lines make me laugh, and the beats are sick for the most part.

Another pretty impressive thing about his music is that he doesn't write ANYTHING down.

Read this.

Celph Titled is actually talented though - his punch lines are witty as shit, and his flow and rhyme schemes are disgustingly good. Li'l Wayne is not even close to the same level.

And as for you fingerpaint, being on a skiing site does not preclude you from knowing underground hip hop. I'm not claiming to know even close to everything about it by any means, but there's a big difference between posting songs that clearly showcase how shitty Li'l Wayne is as an artist and what you're saying. Listen to the three I put up, most notably Honest Expression and A Little Something by Binary Star and Qwel, and I hope you'll see what I'm talking about. A Little Something is honestly one of the most beautiful, thought-provoking, and lyrically accomplished tracks ever made.

Stop fucking assuming i don't know anything about music. My interest in lil' wayne doesn't automatically trash all other rap artists.

I've been on your blog before, and already had 80% of the music you have posted.

I also mostly listen to indie, lo-fi, post-rock and electro.

Maybe you know something about hip hop, but this thread has made it abundantly clear that there's a fair amount of people on this site who don't. So Allen, myself, and some other people decided to highlight how big a gap there is between Li'l Wayne and damn near every underground artist, and you felt the need to bitch about it. Don't whine at me for retaliating.

Although d'wayne carter does have some good metephores...Im not a big fan. Eminem on the other hand, thats a different story.

Eh, looking back at the posts there's a bit of miscommunication. I asked you to do that in response to your attack on everyone posting videos. Whatever, it's not that important, it's an internet argument.

ill admit, i know next to nothing about rap and all i really know are the people you hear about mainstream... and i dont know what people think of Mos Def but i would have to say his lyrics and rhymes are some of the better stuff that i have heard... just my two cents.

flash_video_placeholder.png

and while not rap, ^^THAT^^ is what you get when someone puts time into their album to make sure it stays true to what their original sound was... as much as it could be with them totally old men compared to what they were during Ride the Lighting.

Yeah, its crazy how no one stops to listen, I saw another video of him doing it, and there was a group of like six little kids who stopped to listen but there parents just kept pulling them along a little crazy.

OT,

Little Wayne isn't amazing at all, the only reason he has any good songs is because when you pump out 2-3 songs a day you are bound to get lucky sometimes.

truth. and if you can afford Ed Meitner's SACD player, get one. it'll actually UPconvert your CD playback to SACD quality. in fact, all of ed's products are amazing haha

For the first time in my life, I found some people who dont like lil wayne / mainsteam hip hop, in norway people go mad when i say lil wayne suck's, and hate on underground stuff

"Halfway decent" is a very generous evaluation of Li'l Wayne, and even if you go ahead and call it that anyway, is the fact that SOME of his older shit is "halfway decent" while the majority of it blows make him deserving of all the dick-riding? No.

i wasnt dick riding... i was trying to keep this thread from becoming a complete cluster fuck of flaming again......

listen to the song dedication 2. if you can find it. if you tell me you cant appreciate the lyrics on it even if you dont ilke the song than you dont know music at all. yea i hate most of his new stuff too but the mans just makin his dollars. cant hate on that. a lot of his old stuff has real meaning and legit lyrics. problem is noone ever hears that shit. and dont say it sucks before you listen to some of it. im not talking about his really old shit when he was like 15 either. im talkin dedication 1 and 2. carter 1 and 2. and part of 3. stuff like that. listen to some mixtapes.a lot of his good shit isnt even on his albums cuz he likes to do stuff with other people. he enjoys it. people hate on someone for doin somethin they think is fun. listen to Mr. Carter with him and jay-z. amazing song with real lyrical meaning. im not suckin his dick im just sick of people hatin on shit that they know nothin about and judge him based on 2 songs they heard on the radio. P.S. the radio hardly plays good rap/hip-hop.

what i've been trying to say the hole time but nobody listens...i mean shit the thread creater legit thinks i'm mentally handicapped because i listen to wayne..people are so damn ignorant its silly

I'm not sure if you do, but if you so happen to consider Li'l Wayne to be an intelligent or clever lyricist, you are clearly mentally handicapped.

The problem with 99 percent of the kids on this site, is that they honestly just know jack shit about rap. You are all to concerened about just listening to "underground" rap saying its way better and have better lyrics. Honestly i used to be the same way. Ive broadened by horizons and yeah wayne puts out some garbage, but he makes a lot of sick shit too.
The dude that put all those rappers like looptroop, blue scholars ect. is the definition of what im talking about. Yeah they are pretty sick but when it comes down to it i could name prolly ten rappers off the top of my head that are mainstream and would tear them apart in any part of the game. Whether its beats, flow, lyrics, freestyling or whatever.

Basically im trying to say all the kids on here who shun away any mainstream rapper and say that others are way better, your wrong.

I agree with you. To me its all rap, it doesnt matter if they have so to say "made it" or working their way to that point. Its music. If your good ill listen to you and if your not i wont.

The people who tend to use those words, are the same people who attempt to align themselves with a particular image; that typically being of an "in the know" "real" hip-hop fan.
I can't stand the knee jerk reaction to condemn what's popular. The whole elitist hip-hop subculture is so fucking obnoxiously self-righteous.
It's hip-hop. This notion that it has to be substantive and "meaningful" is ridiculous. Hip-hop didn't begin as either socially-conscious OR "high-art". Since day one, it's been about fun, celebrating materialism and living lavishly, and "I'm better than the next" bravado. I guess you could say that Grand Master Flash took it to that other level, along with other early emcees who recorded "message" songs, but even those were footnotes and asides.
In that respect, Lil' Wayne is more "hip-hop" than a lot of the slam poet/microphone booth activists that you guys are unexplainably spamming this thread with. Just as Lil' Wayne panders to a demographic and exploits them for economic gain, the backpack/underground/otherjerkoff classification movement does the same thing...the difference being that Wayne is candid and transparent about it.
There are a lot of posters in this thread I think highly of, who's opinions I genuinely respect, but I think a lot of you are failing to give Wayne a fair shake. I suspect some of you are projecting your disdain for his fans and the "idea" of Wayne, onto the actual music.
Wayne is astoundingly prolific, and releases such a ridiculous amount of music that there's bound to be a fair share of bullshit. The auto-tune phenomenon is suicide inducing, and the saturation of his music is maxed the fuck out. No question. That being said, there is quality to be found if you're willing to dig. To off-handedly dismiss his entire catalog on the basis of a handful of singles is ridiculous. To deny his feel for cadence, rhythm, melody, and swagger is cuhrazy talk.

he makes more money than you ever will, he's considered to be one of the best by his peers, many many people like him. stop fucking talking about this already.

Ok heres a list. This is in no order, just 10 that are better than all you posted.

1.Jadakiss-probably one of the best freestyle rappers of all time, lyrically almost nobody can touch him)
2.Styles P- he really isnt mainstream but he still gets by, and is one of the best alive right now)
3. Cassidy- if you dont know why he is good, listen to mixtapes more, which proves another point i made about not knowing rap
4. Jay-Z-this should not need explaining
5. Slim Thug- i used to think he was wack, but this past album and actually listening into his songs that arent meant to make people dance, the ones about his life, he absolutely kills it.
6. DMX- Absolutely killed it in the 90s, and paved way for 3 of the people on this list.
7. Lupe Fiasco- just straight kills it
8. Ace Hood- right now, he isn't on the level of hte rest of the people on this list, but his flow is out of control and he has the potential to be great.
9. Fabulous- One of the best freestylers in the game, flow is rediculous
10. Lil Wayne- Im putting him on here because depending on what kind of mood your in, some of his music is really good. You gatta look past the stupid lyrics and look at the bigger picture. Listen to the song me and my drink, and explain the metaphor to me.
If i knew how to post videos or links id give you a couple freestyles with these guys in them and its rediculous how good they are.

Please explain. They are all better than any video posted in this group. I would love to hear you justify how a group of white swedish rappers is more hip hop and have more talent than those 10.
