it blows my mind how you guys approach this topic every day someone creates a thread on it. you have no conception of what good hip-hop even sounds like. so when you argue that lil wayne suck and pull out your NS household names list of "underground" rappers to compare him with, your point is moot anyway.

im not going to list names off for you, but you need to approach it like you would anything you are passionate about. people nowadays find a couple artists they like and stop there. they aren't interested in finding anything else about it and their list will stay the same for quite a while. you should be asking yourself these questions every time you find a new artist: influences, production, older/newer albums. you need to scour the fucking depths of the music world to find the dopest shit and constantly branch out and keep expanding until you know so many fucking artists that nearly everything you hear in these threads is laughable. and i dont listen to wayne that often but i cant deny that his lyrics are usually pretty fucking dope. the reason that the 15-17 year old NS suburban demographic "hates" on him is because his lyrics are not accessible to you if you are not going to seriously sit down and figure out what's going on. so instead of dismissing him outright, you should really commit to it. there is no denying that wayne is a true wordsmith.
 
Im quite sure I was sending messages in my writing by 4th grade, its not a difficult thing to accomplish.. I dont listen to rap for life lessons. If we break it down to lyrical talent Cudi has absolutely nothing on Wayne. I wouldnt say Lupe is much better than Cudi.

 
Lil Wayne is a disgrace to everything that music is about. When I listen to a song, I want to find meaning and emotions on that song. I want a story. What I really don't want (and I don't see how anyone would want this): "Fuckidy fuck fuck fuck, bitches money I'm a pimp, fuckidy fuck niggas bitches cars money, in the fuckin' hood!" Its disgusting. I understand how you could like these songs for their beats, its true, some of them are pretty sick. But as soon as a single word comes out of his mouth, all I hear are racial discriminations, overly used and unnesecary curse words, and worst of all, his songs practically refer to women as material possessions. Its pathetic, really.
 
Lol at this thread. As much as I cannot stand lil wayne, it's what sells and he has made a lot of money doing what he does. Good for him. Doesn't mean that any of us have to ever listen to him.

On another note, I don't understand the idea that if you don't like lil wayne then you automatically only listen to illmatic and wu? haha am I missing something here?
 
I know it's pretty easy and that's why it is actually sad how bad lil wayne is at it...and lupe is by far better at sending messages than lil wayne and cudder
 
this thread is absurd. it's going to turn into every other "lil wayne sucks" thread. just like every other subjective argument in the world, people are going to hate on him, and people are going to defend him. except here maybe 5% of the people bring up decent points and/or facts
 
the thing is your criteria for good music is a joke because you don't even listen to any hip-hop like that. i mean you may listen to some blue scholars, kid cudi, lupe, atmosphere bullshit but you have no idea about the true storytellers of the genre...artists who tell stories so vividly it feels like you are standing next to them in the middle of the city. and no one has been able to match them since and most likely never will. the golden age was named such for a reason...because nothing had ever come close to its level of quality and nothing ever will again. so that really should be your reference for everything in terms of hip-hop and who is good or not. but the thing is, i know it isnt because no one ever even mentions anything remotely close to decent on these threads when they want to hate on wayne.

RZA's solo albums are fucking garbage. why would i want to listen to the lyrically weakest member of wu when all i need is "supreme clientele"? that's an example of one of my go-to banger albums that i will never stop listening to. that shit it on heavy rotation all of the time.

honestly, i cant stand most of that shit. just my opinion but its way too tame for me.cuddi's dope, and wayne puts a good song out every blue moon...but i cant get down with the others.

kool g is definitely one of the masters i had in mind. people like kool g, rakim, and especially organized konfusion were so fucking technical it wasn't even funny. monch has verses on songs like "bring it on" were you would seriously think he's an alien his shit is so next level and this was all back in 94, which is the best year in hip-hop in my opinion for the level of quality coming out at that time. basically you weren't putting out an album unless you were dope.

Hardy wrote about where the writer's unconscious mind takes over. It's

lines like this that make you wonder if he looks back over the page

SICK! So too weak = 2 week cool. Alright, so a week is 7 days, that means two weeks is 14 days!!! so 1 week = 7 days and 2 weeks = 14 days. therefore, if 2 week = too weak, and 2 week = 14 days, that means too weak = 14 days!!! thats fuckin genius!

i personally can't stand lil wayne. I don't like the sound of his voice, his lyrics or his flow. That is what i think of him. If you like him, whatever thats you. All I know is this shit sounds way better to me.
