Also what happened to listening to music because you liked the beats, the rapping, or the flow.

Why do some of you guys feel the need to listen to music to get a "deeper meaning"?

You are telling me what everything you listen to has some deeper meaning and super meaningful/insightful lyrics?

Stop taking some music so seriously and just enjoy it as music. Some music is meant to be entertaining not to help you discover the fucking meaning of the universe.

Just my opinion, im not hating on people who listen to him. Im just saying im not a fan.
 
Most of the best rappers don't even rap about hood shit. It's true people like Ghost and Wu do, but it more bills itself as a story more than anything. Listen to Fishscale and close your eyes, its basically a Scarface movie. MF DOOM is a prime example of someone who doesn't need any bullshit to make a good song. He has great lyrics, sick beats, and if you listen closely you will usually laugh. Wayne might have a couple of songs that shine, but most of his shit is garbage. His rhymes just put together any free association of random similar sounding words. He can't tell a story. Storytelling is pivotal in raping because in the end of the day that is what rap really is, storytelling over a beat.

I felt the same way... Key word Felt... He is really is a lyrical genius. You have to stop listening to the beat and actually pay attention to what hes saying and it starts to make sense...Maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow... but eventually you'll get it.
 
I don't know if you can really make that generalization. I mean yes rap can be about story telling but there is also another side for pure entertainment. Listen to a Wu-Tang, Biggie, Tupac, or Gang Starr song. Not all of their music involves them telling a story or being extremely thought provoking. Every rapper, even the best, have songs that are for pure entertainment.

Lil' Wayne just likes to give the people what they want. Which is entertainment and he is damn good at that. He is a good entertainer and most of his stuff is enjoyable to listen to.

If I want to listen to music for the deeper meaning or lyrics I will turn on some Immortal Technique or some Cudi or some of other song that I know will make me think. If I want some music for entertainment I will listen to some Lil' Wayne or Mac Miller or something like that.

Just because a rapped doesn't tell a story with every song does not make them a terrible rapper. Just means they are trying to entertain and to be honest I kind of get annoyed with the whole storytelling thing sometimes.

But to each their own. Everyone likes something different.

But you can't really hate on Lil' Wayne for making music for entertainment since that is what he is set out to do. I can understand not liking his music because you don't like his voice or his beats or raps or lifestyle or whatever but you have to admit he is very good at entertaining and selling CDs and making music to be enjoyed by a certain group of people and if you don't fit into that group of people than don't listen to his music. Simple as that.
 
Completely agree with this. You have to weed through some of his worse shit to get to some of his really sick stuff. He is amazing at just coming up with the craziest rhymes and sometimes it takes a couple listens to catch everything. I remember listening to No Ceilings mix tape every time I went up to ski and started to enjoy it the more I listened to it.
 
You can't tell me that DOOM isn't entertaining. Cudi makes songs for entertainment more than anything anyway. A lot of rappers are good entertainers, look at snoop, sure his lyrics aren't the best, but that doesn't really make his songs suffer cause he makes it fun. I just think that its like the same people who find "Get er done" style comedy hilarious because its the lowest form of easy entertainment. Other rappers are entertaining, wayne just puts shit together that are easy to like, autotune and random similar sounding words. You can be entertaining and somewhat intelligent, the two are not exclusive. And I am not coming at you for liking him, I am just saying why I think he is an awful rapper.
 
I think I agree with you. The first couple sentences at least.

But those songs were sick. But there are different types of entertainment and we could beat this dead horse all damn day.

I like Lil' Wayne and you don't. To each their own. I am sure there is some music that you like that I hate and think they suck and don't know how anyone could listen to it.

But thank you for giving actually reason instead of just saying "lol lil wayne sux cuz liek he esnt like my hero biggie"
 
Amazing what adults can accomplish when the other person is reasonable and doesn't get all butt hurt that someone doesn't like the music they do and can back up why they don't.

If you like him for being an entertainer......ok I cant argue with you. I dont like him but I appreciate that there are different genre's of hip hop.

But as far as being a lyricyst.....he mumbles and babbles bullshit. "I'm a martian" gtfoutta here. He cant hold a candle to the real lyricysts in the game who use real metaphors and word play. you might think he's a "deep' person but the reality is hes been a millionare since he was 13. I remember Wayne when he was part of The Hot Boyz (I bet half of you dont even know about that) and at the time it was fun to hear something other than NY/LA hip hop. Everyone knew Wayne was going to blow because of the position he was in NOT because he was a great rapper.
 
The young money group he is in is just horrific. Worst collection of "Artists" since....Well, Nothing is as terrible as Young money. He does have good metaphors and similies. Not the best ones in hip hop today. Theres tons and tons of other artists and groups that would blow Lil Wayne out of the water when it comes to metaphors and similies.

Even though I have heard of them all they are all better than Lil' Wayne IMO but are not the same type of hip hop that Lil' Wayne is.

I actually like this song, but LW is easily one of the most 'ignant motherfuckers getting paid to come up with cute words that rhyme. I'll be the first to admit he has some good tracks, but most of it is beats, beats, beats.

But realizing this comment comes from "Teh Ghey Lifestyle", I'm not surprised in the least.
 
Weezy might not be the greatest Freestyle artist, and il admit that maybe his game has been a little off since he got out of prison but this song is FIRE! He drops punchline after punchline and rips this beat. Gunz on the other hand is opposite. He is a underground artist which being apart of YM might hurt his carreer. I think this is just a start of some hot shit that weezy is going to put out in the near future. expect some bigggg things.Cheers,,

i would never hate on anyone for liking a certain artist but when people say lil wayne has better rhymes than (insert rappers name her) i almost always disagree.

i personally think his lyrics are terrible and that he makes up half the words in order for his lines to rhyme. not knocking on lil wayne because he is really fucking successful. he has catchy beats and 'clever' rhymes which has lead to every 13 year old having his lyrics as their facebook status.

a couple days ago i was listening to aotp in my car and picked up my buddy. he immediately took his ipod out saying "this rap music is garbage." as soon as he put his ipod on i knew what he was going to pick...weezy f baby
 
wayne shits on any other rapper in the game now, and steps ahead of everyone. his metaphors are fucking crazy. most of the people don't understand the shit he says, when you think of it his lyrics are crazy.
if i wanna listen to some "deep" stuff ill listen to cudi. wayne and cudi are on top of everyone IMO.

Yeah, No. Wrong again. So let me get this straight, buddy. A person on here makes an edit, Posts the edit up and people like the song. They search for more music from whoever/whatever group produced and performed that song. They like a lot of the other songs that group has produced and they become a fan of that group. Thats considered claiming? I thought that was just called listening and enjoying a groups music.
 
completely agree with this. hated wayne a while ago, but once you really listen and understand his stuff, you will think it's a lot better.
Example: "got a bitch named nina, and nina so slutty, she gon do him and everyone of his buddies"
if you just read that you're like wow thats fucking stupid.if you realize that nina is a slang term for 0.9mm, it all of sudden isn't so stupid.
 
If you want good punchlines....there are better artists.

If you want real meaningful lyrics....there are better artists.

If you want someone to tell you a story....there are better artists.

If you don't really care about stuff like that, Lil Wayne is a fine choice. Not hating here, just saying that, personally, I don't like him at all and know for a fact that any of Lil Wayne's best metaphors or punchlines can be topped by countless others, whether from the underground or from those classic old-school joints.
