Lights for filming

if you want cheap and tough, go to home depot and buy a couple 1,000 watt work lights for $50. They come in 500's side by side.

work lights are good enough for most skiing purposes especially since they'll be out in the elements, look at the price of those

Yeah, that's what they cost new. Look up lowel omni (an older model) on ebay. They're much much cheaper. The reason they are better is that they produce cleaner light and burn at a higher color temperature. If you could look at the spectrum they produce, you'd see less spikes at certain frequencies which means better color representation.

Ya, worklights, at least the ones i use, produce light around 2800 Kelvin, whereas daylight is usually more in the 4000 to 5000 range.

I think for lighting your average rail, work lights do just fine. You can thrown them around, and if one breaks, you just buy another. They're almost disposable. A broken work light every month or so is no big deal, but a broken DP light is a big chunk out of the wallet.

The DP's are nice, but all you're really gaining is more control over your light. If you really need to control light spill, just buy a roll of black wrap, it will do the trick.

I take back the comment about only gaining more control over light spill. The tungsten bulbs do produce a much cleaner light. It's up to the Filmer to decide whether it's worth the extra cash or not.

I would recommend buying separate 500's rather than the dualies, it'll give you more placement options.

Anyone ever used these lights - Walimex 150

yeah i use a worklight with the stuff behind my house cause its easy to deal with the extension cord but for urbans just get a ton of the mad cheap handheld/stand lights like this kid is talkin about if you want to go cheap. theres like 8 dollar ones at home depot and places like that, grab 5 or so and theyll last you a few urban missions at least
