Liftline Discrimination and Styeroptyping

So this happens basically every day bbut its really been happeneing a lot to me lately such as today. Ill be waiting in the liftline like all the other noobs and the lifties wont check their passes for like an hour, and then right when me and my friends are about to go up, a guy runs out of his little hut and is like "WOOOOAh hwere are your passes!?!?!" its so wack then i have to reach into my pocket and my hand gets cold. i just wanna call them out on being racist pretty much and like complete losers. like get a real fucking job loser. Does htis happen to anybody else? im particular mad about it becasue its even more wack because of my skin color of which i will not disclose that information.

during the holidays when gaper tourists are around and Im wearingbaggy shit and a bandana random people dont sit with me because they scurred.

man i am a lifty and that's pretty wack. But about chirpin my job I was a bartender making 26$/hr before i just don't wanna do it during the winter so fuck off asshole. It's probably how you dress btw because when i strole up with all my baggy ass shit they always make me pull my bandana down and shit to check that it's me. Would i do that to people? no because im not a fuckin loser and i dont care as long as people have a ticket.

one time i was in the liftline with a bandana on and mirrored goggles you you couldnt see my face at all, and i swear a mother pulled her child closer to her when she looked at me lol....and yea, i know i offered no advice to you and loosly stuck to the topic

Lifty is a shitty job but you meet people and get a free pass and are surrounded by the mtn so if your a soul skier its as dank as mary jane

its gonna happen. just like the patrol will pull your ass over for bombing groomers, while the OUT OF CONTROL gapers flying by dont get stopped.

but fyi, not racism, being a park rat isnt a race lol

discrimination however, would be an appropriate term

something sorta like that happend to me today.

and today i had the same poles as this little racer kid and his got stolen and the dad saw me with the same ones and assumed i stole them since i was wearing tall tees tall hoodie and a bandana. arghh

now i have no poles which im fine with but w.e

I only got checked for my pass once last year. The prick lifty who I had never seen in my life(I know all the lifties at my hill) stopped the lift and asked me where my pass was. I pulled it out of my pocket and he told me that I needed it visible at all times. A visible pass at all times is stupid because there is a very real chance the thing could fall off. Most lifties are cool but everynow and then you get one who isn't either really cool or really high.

ive told a patroller to her face that I have more control going backwards then most gapers going forward...

she looked at me stunned. lol

i did that once too, then they realized i was a "tourist" (not my home hill) and were like, were gonna let you go, just be more careful.

i proceeded to ski away, switch of course

I think snowboarders got it the worst, but they have set there own reputation. All old people/adult frown on our new ways of newschooling. Lol at the mom who pulled her kid away, i could see that happening, a bunch of baggy clothes wearing, double tipped, huge goggled ski thugs scaring old people. I'm gonna try to do that this year.

I am a scanner. We are taught to stereotype as much as possible to find frauds and stolen passes. Half the time if a kid is wearing a bandanna over his face, goggles, and a hat, its a stolen or borrowed pass.*

*This applies to all snowboarders

yea i had to he said he was gonna press charges.. there fucking ski poles. i dont get it. looks like im really gonna have to steel a pair now

OR instead of stealing someone elses polls, go to a thrift shop, goodwill, ect. and buy a cheap pair, and cut them down if you have to....

To the Original Poster. Go fuck yourself. Get a real job, seriously. Last time I checked that liftie gets to go to the hill everyday and ski while getting paid to do so. Sounds like a sweet gig if you ask me. Next time you should just show your pass and not give him a hassle. And if you hands get cold from getting your pass out of your pocket than wow. Maybe if your pass was visible you wouldn't have gotten harassed as you put it.

honetsly man....any place iv ever skied in my life requires the pass to be shown and normaly they give u some sort of pass holder that works pretty good so stop bitchin casue thats part of the lifties job to hceck for passes

Haha, i've done that a few times and they just got angry at me. Then i ran into one of the patrollers when he was off the clock and i let him get down part of the run and just carved around him switch. The next time i saw him he was just super chill.

they had like 3 ppl checkin passes at my hill cause it's just a rope tow and people walk on and just dont buy a pass, but yea nobody really cares at my hill it's chill

your stupid. he couldn't have done shit, because you didnt steal his little kids poles and all you did was make yourself look guilty by giving your own shit up

its not called discrimination cuz he checks ure pass

and ya hes stereotyping, it makes sense tho from his point of view, who do u think it likly trying to get away without a pass 2 teenagers in tall ts or the family of 4 trying skiing for the first time. like i definatly get asked for my pass more than alot of ppl but it makes sense cuz if i didnt have my fake handy i wouldnt have one at all. so dont pretend its just cuz ure black or w.e that they ask for ure pass like why do u even bring that into this when its obvious it has nothing to do with it

honestly, from seeing it firsthand, there's more little kids and moms in a family of 4-6 w/ fake, old, or faulty passes than anyone else. they try to scam like whoa, like bringing their little kids up the "big" lift when they only bought a 10$ bunny hill ticket. it makes my day seeing them get caught, cheap bastards

I was going to be a ticket checker this year but got a job in rentals instead.

But anyways the thing that makes me mad is when it is not crowded and everytime you get to teh lift they check your pass and they see you over 10 times in an hour.

you want some discrmination?me-" hey you guys know that the rainbow box is missing a good 6 inches of HDPE"lifty-"yeah that gap on the backside? we looked at that and figured skiers are the only ones that can get hurt on it."(closes door of lift shack)me-"alright, thanks for looking out"

i was so gonna call you on that cuz of the "black friday" thread i got punked on. nice catch

but still

Steeze isnt a race.

ehh, im sorry to hear about that bro but what are you gonna do? some people are just uncool like that and think because of how someone dresses or looks mean there suspicouse. but you shouldnt diss people job because thats there choice like someone shouldnt discriminate you for your apperance. even if i had a solid job making 100,000 a year i would still like being a lifitie just because i like being on the mountain and you get free skiing

I've never been yelled at by a patroller for recklessness, just a lifitie once, but I've always been ready to use that line if I was ever yelled at for skiing switch. The patrollers at my mtn [Spirit] are volunteer, so they're pretty chill, and I know quite a few of them.

Anyways, on the topic of this thread, you need to quit bitching about people doing their jobs. Stereotyping is a part of any security-related job, whether you like it or not. Also there's a pretty simple reason most of the gapers don't get their passes checked. Most gaper are using day passes, meaning THEY ARE VISIBLE AND DON'T NEED TO BE CHECKED. And if the liftie has a decent memory, you should only have to show them your pass once anyway, not really a big deal, but if you really don't want to take out your pass, get to know the lifties instead of hating on them. Most of them recognize me within a few weeks and I don't get checked nearly as often.

No way you are really spending your ski days bumping chairs for min. wage instead of skiing all day and slinging drinks for coin at night.

is this an american thing? i've never had my ticket checked at chairs. just the bottom. and it doesnt ever have to be visible except for when the validator scans it...

man i have the best job ever, wake up go up the lift and sit outside while catching rays, getting a sweet tan and chatting up hot ski bunnies. Also drinking free hot chocolate get a free pass and ski during my breaks.

pretty much america is full of dog faced scoundrels. . . not really, but ski resorts just aint as pure and virgin as they used to be i guess!

shit i havent done it but my friends have shown the green pass and n]have gotten on the hill no problem. just gotta find the right liftie which isnt that hard

My friend got fired from being a liftie because she wasn't checking me and all her other friends' season passes every time we went up. I'm pretty sure it was just an excuse cause her boss hated her though.

Im lucky I guess all the patrollers and liftes are super chill at my mountain I know all of them and the lift manager for the terrain park refers to me as Mr. Mini Poles. the patrollers are even better I know all of them and they come and take runs threw the park with me and stuff it's prettysick.
