Liftee Drip

yo guys, I’m gonna be a liftee for the first time this winter and all I have are vans and tennis shoes since I live in Seattle. It seems like some wear their ski boots but not everyone so I’m wondering about good snow boots / shit to wear in general. What’s the move?

Wear snowskate shoes!

Cold day/deep day snowskate boot.

At my work, OSHA requires I provide my employees with a boot stipend every year of $105. Ask your employer if options like this exist in your position. Also see if they will provide you with a good ol brain bucket. Say that safety is your top priority followed by dripp obviously

Bean boots will literally last forever and are warm as shit think of it as an investment since they last forever

Sorrels or some snowboard boots. 32 actually used to make a boot called the liftie.

Coukd rock ski boots all day for ride breaks but not really that comfortable. Unless you're at ablift where you can lap regularly id prolly rather swap boots for my break.

Also recommend keeping your ramp in goid shape bith because it's the job, but also for boredom. I dont understand how people don't shovel or rake all day and dont go insane. If your on an upper mtn lift bump some tunes and get the vibes going. Talk to people have some fun.

Liftie ganngggg, Ive been on the grind for almost 3 seasons

I got Neos Overshoes, highly recommend getting the ones with ice spikes in them, you can just wear them over whatever shoes you feel comfy in with some good wool socks, that way if you get into a top shack you dont need to sit around in big ass boots all day, and when you have to go or be outside you can just slide them on, they're like 15inches high so you're set for anything.

Definitely layer up, cuz you're either standing still or moving around in the cold you're gonna wanna be as adjustable as possible to your body temp

other gear, make sure you have a high quality, large backpack, always have a shit ton of snacks/water/drinks on you and room for spare layers if needed. bring a BT speaker if you can too

also, what [tag=104058]@theabortionator[/tag] said, stay on the ramp work grind, keeps the boredom away and you won't look like a lazy ass vibing out in the shack while massive ice grooves form on the ramp

When I'm liftin' I wear insulated rubber boots, snowboard boots or ski boots if I'm riding on breaks. Would not recommend ski boots tbh. Too awkward to get around and chews up the ramp too much if you have to help people. Good socks are a must.

See if your mountain offers any pro form deals. I got $530 scarpa mountaneering boots for a hundo. Grabbed another pair last year. Been wearing them grooming instead of my sorrels. Pretty legit for when i get out if the cat on ice and shit. They dont bother me in the cat. I rock some OR gators as well. For liftie shit you prolly dont have to step in snow that much but if the deep pow is ever an issue those are dope. Nice dry feet all day.

Word thanks homie! Would you bring that shit in another bag if you had to ski to work? Brighton said I might have to

Like put your boots in another bag? you could yea, Ive got an AT pack so I usually just secure them to the outside with the ski straps if I am skiing to my shack

I would check out the thrift stores around town for some name brand nice winter boots/snowboard boots before going to buy something else online or something. The boot you have is important but u gotta understand that if ur forced to be outside for extended periods on cold ass days your feet are going to get cold no matter how good your boots are.

Like others have said, wearing your ski boots is not the way to go unless you're at a lift where both the lift and the crew allow you to take a lap like every 20 minutes.

As an aside, as a first time lifty you gotta realize that there is a chance you get sent to a lift where the other dudes will take advantage of you being a first timer. If you realize that you are consistently the only person not getting shack breaks/ is constantly having people show up late to break you out/ everybody else seems to be taking laps but you arent getting to take laps/ your crew chief takes a 3 hour lunch break and doesnt give any of the rest of you lunch and/or ride breaks GET THE FUCK OFF THAT CREW. Make up whatever excuse you have to. Changing the lift you work at shouldn't be an issue for your bosses if you make up a good excuse. You can probably do it without ratting out the other guys or your crew chief as well. If calling those guys out for shitty work/ unfairness is what is takes so be it. And if you are worried about making enemies/ having those dudes not like you, who the fuck cares. The whole point of working the resort is to have a good time and get a free pass, not to have the old lifties like you.

TL;DR-- Being a lifty sucks way more than a lot of other jobs at the hill, so to make up for that, some of the more senior lifties will take advantage of new people to make the job have more perks for themselves. Dont let it happen at you expense, pass it off to another nooby.

Its fucking uncomfortable to be in ski boots all day, and will fuck up your knees. Unless you are getting a lap every 30-45min, I'd get a good pair of winter boots, Sorels or Muck Boots would be my choice. Also hit up [tag=188299]@boomie[/tag], he made a bunch of dope stickers for my crew last year.
