Dis gon be big - Mike Rogge just posted this on his Facebook:

Steven Rozendaal, John Decesare, Dylan Malone and I have been working on a little project the last 10 months. It was time for the luminaries of our sport, the people who were actually there, to the tell the stories of how this all happened. I couldn't think of a better person to begin this journey with than Pep Fujas.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is our show. It's called Lifted and it's premiering this Wednesday on VICE Sports.”

This Wednesday would be Wednesday the 7th of January if I'm not mistaken.

Trailer looks promising: https://sports.vice.com/article/pep-fujas-lifted-trailer

Hope the soundtrack to the videos is nothing like that music in the trailer. Looks fun to watch and reminisce. Skiing might have been "lame" in the 90's, but the people doing it didn't care if it was cool or not. Which is arguably way cooler than the scene nowadays.

Got to take a peek at this series while they were making it, its very good. /hypetrain

I saw Mike Rogge online here a little while ago, so may push the question to him...

But with the little info I have, we will likely see Peps part be divided into three episodes.

Then others will follow.

Somebody needed to do this. Props to Rogge/Rozendaal/Decesare!

And to Dylan for getting this beast off the tarmac. :-)

Yeah.....for sure. Making jump turns on 210's is way cooler than smearing a 40 mph pow turn on fat skis....

Skiing was "lame" because it was overly beholden to tradition, slow to except change and evolution, anti-creativity and progression, and on and on. Skiing on the simplest terms and in the purest sense has never been, and could never be, "lame", but there's no doubt that skiing is much better nowadays.

Three episodes dedicated to the career of Mr. Fujas.

After that, who would you guys like to see?

I'd love to see a feature on the New Canadian Air Force. It might be very hard with JP no longer around.

I think you're both right. There's no such thing as "skiing." There are skiers, there are ski manufacturers, there are ski magazines, there are regulatory bodies, etc., but there is no unitary thing called "skiing." And once you break it down that way, it's true that the industry, regulatory bodies, etc. were stuck in a rut and happy to stay there, but I would argue that being a skier was better in the 90s. The scene in most parks today is like a high school quad. It wasn't like that on the mountain in the 90s. Also, skiers appreciated every little natural feature on a mountain. Now people go straight to the manmade features in the park and never learn how to make a decent turn. And everyone wants the experience of being a pro skier, rather than the experience of skiing. Look at the sequence on the home page. Some dude rolling hard in his hoodie throwing a tiny 360. There was nothing like that in the 90s. Skiing was 99% less self-conscious.

Its true I remember the cat and mouse game of building hidden booters and ski patrol finding them and destroying them. Also getting zero respect for being a skier. People making fun of me because they assumed I was a spandex suit wearing racer with a stick up my ass. I remember when people boiled the tails of their skis to bend up the tails, and a few people had these weird bolt on tails that made their skis twin tips. The thing is that prior to any sort of newschool or freeski movement there were actually a ton of people that were dropping cliffs, hitting jumps and slaying when no one was watching. Thats why the 90's was cool to me.

I'm all for this project. I think it could be amazing, as long as the same thing that happened to Free doesn't happen.

If it stays true to the roots, really tells the story, and isn't made for TV it'll be fucking awesome.

Rogge, maybe we should line the team up for a live Q&A?

Let's do it. The first episode airs tomorrow morning on Vice Sports.

This is truth...those were the days.

Obviously JP, but Douglas as well. As noted a NCAF one might cover it, but those guys each deserve their own.

NCAF is a no brainer. hands down this needs to happen before anything else. so much archive footage, get douglas in there. I wanna know what happpened to JF Cusson!

Also maybe a history on twin tip manufacturing giant Jason Levinthal? or some of the men behind the lens like Decesare, Iberg, Gaffney. Dudes who really did see it all and were there for everyhting.

He's the coach for team canada, I can't remember if he's head coach or slope coach.

Crazy that Pyramid doesn't even look big anymore. I seldom tune into the ski industry these days, but will try to up on this one.

I know you have wicked questions to throw in the Q&A thread

Guys - an improper link was circulating. I'm verifying with the crew over there and will have the correct one live as soon as its up.

Yep, I'm going to go ahead and say I thoroughly enjoyed that. I remember meeting Pep for the first time way back in the High North days, and he was always both an outstanding skier and a fantastic individual.

I really thought you guys did a great job on this, and it had the exact vibe I was hoping for. I was choked it was short though because god dammit I need more!

When is the next part coming out?

Bet you Steve stepp watched this and thought to himself fuck yeah even pep thinks it's cool to be amateur
