Lift rides alone

For all you solo skiers what do you do on the lift, try to ride alone? Quick talks with new people? Smoke a doink on the way up? Or just listen to music and plan your next steezy line?
 
I always give the classic "hey hows your day going?" If they choose to extend the conversation I'll chat with them but if not I'll just turn my music back on.

Nothing better than someone turning to you and asking "yo you smoke?" though. Especially if its a jerry or someone you wouldnt expect
 
I love a good solo lift ride, I stretch out on the whole chair and striaght lounge. Smoke a bowl or a doobie if it's an option. It's amazing how comfy you can get on a chairlift
 
I used to legit sleep on chairlift at night sometimes when I night skied after school in NY. Was the only one on the mountain a lot of the time.

Usually will chat to people if they're cool. Otherwise just keep bumping my music.

Pretty much don't care what people do as long as they don't hit me with the fucking bar.

Old dude like 75+ on a pair of clapped out 210 K2s from the 70s rode the lift with me today and took a beer and a puff of my oil pen. Probably the sickest lift ride of my life. Wish I could have skied a few laps with him but it was his last run. Im pretty determined to find him again
 
I always make a point of asking where they're from. Cannot remember the last time someone was actually a native from my state. All are tourists or transplants.
 
As mentioned, chatting with people when applicable, if not cranking up the music and planning.

Made some cool friends just by talking on the lift. Also skied some of the best pow with a bunch of old dudes I rode up with.

Also good to ride up with patrol every once in a while to see how avy conditions are/previous slides/ deaths etc. I’ve learned some valuable info from some of those old patrollers

I always say hey and hows it going to whoever I get on the lift with, and if they seem social, then I usually keep it going. If a bunch of ski school kids are in line and the teachers ask us if we can ride with one or two of them, I always make a good conversation with the little rippers. One time I asked some little dude how old he was, and he said that he was 5 but had been skiing for 6 years, and then proceeded to tell me why it's a bad idea to ski the Bridger Bowl ridge. Gotta love the juniors
 
Mainly people ask if I do tricks on these weird skis or where I ride on a pow day when they see fat skis.

But on a solo day also a quiet ride without any music is sometimes pretty nice and helps me focus on upcoming laps
 
is it just me or do people really want to talk to you when you have earbuds in so you have to pull them out? hate it
 
I like to bang my edges together very aggressively, to get about 1 ounce of snow off. Then I proceed to violently swing my legs back and forth, to bounce the chair up and down.

Try to ride alone and just enjoy the mountains around me and reflect on stuff going on and myself.
 
Enjoy a pocket snickers, take a few drags off of the weed pen, maybe have a beer, but usually listen to music and look at stuff if im on the chair alone.

I'll tell ya though, I got a lot of people possibly interested in ON3P's cuz they always ask about my kartels and being a satisfied customer, ill pump their tires a bit and get them turned onto them.

I feel that brotha, I've got a pair of Icelantic Shamans and people get hyped by the wide underfoot, I throw a lil sales pitch at em cause I love the ski!

Analyze my last line , think about the next

Most importantly , rest my damn feet
 
Usually just chill and listen to music or talk to my neighbor if they seem into it, sometimes they’ll have something interesting to say. Also think about tricks I want to do that lap or which line I want to try to ski.

During the school year if I have a lot of work sometimes I’ll bring readings for class and a pen in my pack and do them on the chair, or if I have an exam coming up I’ll study flashcards or notes on my phone. It’s actually a great use of that idle time considering we probably spend more minutes sitting on the lift than actually skiing
 
Usually just cry because when I try and engage in conversation they just say " shut the hell up midget". Probably because I'm 2 foot tall and always slam the bar down without notice but whatever dude my safety over your brain.

I zone the fuck out. I don't really like to ride with music so a solo ride up is just me and some thoughts, usually lingering stoke from the run before and thoughts about what to try and where to go next lap.

When people are on the chair too I'll sometimes chat. Pretty sweet how friendly people usually are when you're riding alone vs when you're with the homies. Lots of different types of people up there - cool how skiing can bring us all together.
 
If I end up riding with a mom or older people I always make up lies about my life like where I’m from always gets a laugh if you say somewhere absurd. Also most of the time it’s people asking about my skis. I ride ON3P with the American Flag on it so there always interested on who made them. Most people in Michigan don’t know the company. I’m basically a salesman from ON3P soooo
 
The first time I soloed a ski lift I was probably 12. I was utterly terrified, cause it was the biggest and longest lift at the mountain. It also made an emergency stop over the highest point of the lift line which really shook me up. After that ride, I was never phased by a lift in my youth ever again.

Last year (been skiing 20 years+ ) was the first time I experienced fear on a lift, no reason just getting old , I understand the mechanics of how things work and I’m like eeeeek
 
It definitely depends on the type of day and mood. The best is when I'm listening to my music. I often watch everybody and what tricks they throw... I'll rip the dab pen and the vape... get a quick nic buzz going. I try to get a good hamstring stretch but my skis dont let me... I always try anyways.

I occasionally chirp jerrys...

Yea, it sucks to get hit with the bar, but how many times have you ridden a chairlift? You'd think people with probably 10,000+ laps under their belts would know how to get on a chairlift and not get hit by the bar when riding with jerries.
 
I ride solo a lot and I utilize the the singles line so I usually end up riding the chair with someone. I remove the ear buds and try to strike up a conversation most of the time. Same as some of these other posts, I ride some ON3P Kartels and someone usually always asks me about them, so I do the sales pitch,lol. Also if i ride up with some little kids, it is always cool to ask them their ages and how long they have been skiing. You usually get an ear full of some crazy stories and some good laughs from them. I Have met some really cool people throughout the years, I have been skiing Hood the last few season(since I moved to the Portland area) and it seems to get a lot of out of area people so it is always interesting to hear where they are from and why they are in the area.

I rode the lift with some 6ish year old girls , they were so cool and sweet and awesome talking the slang , one said she was fonnna send it big when she gets big

Then she said , “ why do you use poles “ , the other little girl spoke for us “ is it cause your old ?” ? I’m 34 , just reminded me of that lol I’m so glad

I ski alone , I’m always in the singles line so I get a lot of ski schoolers riding with me too , love em , I can connect with the kids , I don’t meet any adults
 
Used to talk to my buddy in the worst Canadian accent about syrup and beavers and whatnot. The strangers expressions were gold, and we did it nonstop top to bottom. When they asked a question it was always rough to answer straight to their face.
