Life plan at 19? Ridiculous

No I wont be fling anything commercial. When you are a pilot you are not aloud to profit from ANY flying if you do not have a commercial license, or so I'm told. I'm just looking at doing personal flight, and do some tours/small jobs. I will not be solely relying on flying as income.

I did not read anything posted in this thread, since 100% of what 99% of you have to say is absolutely worthless.

but here it is:

you think its ridiculous now, but if you put it off another 6 years, you will be 25 thinking its ridiculous to have a life plan by 25, or 11 years and 30.

Face it, you just suck at making decisions.

Also its not like you can't start over. Most people just don't.

Sounds kinda like me. I'm a freshman at CU in the business school with an emphasis in finance. If I could choose any career I think I would probably want to be an audio engineer or a producer, maybe even own a studio. I've seen 1st hand how hard these kind of jobs are to get, perticulary now when the market is so oversaturated.

Finance is interesting to me though and I feel like if i do well at school I would be able to secure a good job and live comfortably, but that being said it's by no means my passion. But having a good job would enable me to better pursue the things I like later in life even if only as a hobby.

All in all, I wish I would have taken a year off before starting college to really think things over. Maybe I'll just take next year off and be liftie at keystone....

so I started reading the replies and I saw asac and sharpy, and thought wtf? then I saw 2007, and I was still surprised they were posting in 2007.

A life plan at 19 does seem crazy. In fact its completely ridiculous, your goal in life should be to cram as much fun stuff as possible in before you die, and that is by no means a plan with any direction.
However, I know what I'll be doing.
I'm going to university. I know what I want to take (physics). I want to take it because it interests me. I'm not going to study my ass of 24/7 in university - I'm going because its fun. I intend to ski, party, learn, and have fun. No regrets.
I want a Ph.D. I want to do research in that field. If I'm doing research in the field I'll likely be a prof. Seems like an awesome job to me - sharing something I'm passionate about is something I love doing. If I just get a bachelor's in physics and that's it, such is life. I enjoyed doing it, and it can almost certainly lead to solid careers. No regrets.
I'm going to keep skiing. I'm going to start tramping when the ski season ends around here, and I'm going to go ramping when ramps open. I'm going to try to go to Mt. Hood or something for a few weeks this summer. I will work all spring to raise the money for it. When next season rolls around I'll hopefully be at UBC which means I'll get to ride whistler twice a week, and more on breaks and such. Maybe if I keep working hard I'll win some comps, get noticed. If not, I got good at skiing, I had fun and I'm happy. No regrets.
Music - I play quite a bit of piano. When ski season dies down I'm going to start writing music again, I'm currently saving up for a synth, and maybe I'll be in a band, or maybe I'll eventually put out good enough music to get signed. Music is something I can plausibly keep doing for the next 10 years before I'm past my prime, so this is a realistic option. If it doesn't pay out, then I learned a lot, I had fun, such is life. No regrets.
Basically, do stuff because you want to do it. If you want to ski 8 months a year, you'd better be damn ready to work your ass off for the other 4, but you can certainly do it. Will it lead to a profession? Maybe not, but doing something for a long time will often take you places. Either way, work hard in whatever you do, have as much fun as possible, live with no regrets and do what you want. You'll get places no matter which road you go down, as long as you don't keep turning around.

you just cant rush this kind of stuff, and thats probably where the pressure comes from. it is in all fairness pretty crazy to expect to know what you will want to do with your life at this age. i initially applied to colleges with the open option cuz i had no fucking clue, but then had a revelation that i wanted to work in the snow sciences feild. its some dope ass shit and way interesting, so now im probably going to u of u for meteorology before pursuing a grad degree in snow sciences. shit will just come to you man, sit back, smoke some herb, and just chill and it will all be figured when the time is right...

im only 16 and a junior and high school and im just starting to get into the whole college process but it for sure seems really overwhelming.

It sucks that you're so pessimistic.
If you want to elaborate on that, then please do, I'd love to hear what you have to say concerning my post. Not trying to start an argument, I just want to know why you say that.

i was about to make a rant thread about this but this seems like it worked better haha.

im in the same position. have absolutley NO idea what i want to do. cant handle the college social life etc. its wack

im a junior in highschool and im pretty sure i know what i wanna do.

get outta school, community college to catch up with math and shit, probably take some welding classes just cuz.

move to wyoming, ski bum for a year

u of wyoming 4 years for forest sciences

usfs career

retire at like 40

take some teaching classes part time this whole time

teach science for a while

??????

profit

Which is why they say the average college student changes majors 3 times.

The decision has to be made at one point or another, experiment with different pathways and find out what you truly enjoy. Don't stress out and think I have to go to school for this exact field in order to get this job and make x amount of dollars.

That is crap, pursue something you are really interested in, and chances are you will be much more successful and happy in that.

im going to go to university and take the best courses possible for me to open a ski shop. then i get an orange name as an added bonuuus

Sure, I go to college.

I am going to double major in Environmental Planning/Policy and Geography.

I am hoping to get a job with the National Parks Service.

I would be perfectly content with roaming the country on a Harley Davidson Wide Glide with some clothes, a tent, and a sleeping bag. I may actually do that once I pay off my debt from school.

the people who hate their jobs got liberal studies degrees in college and are therefore unqualified to do pretty much any good job...
