sometimes i think about where we go after we die, and it scared the fuckin shit out of me when i think that there could possibly nuthin, just nuthin at all. wat dus everyone else think on this matter?

i don't believe in an afterlife, human beings universally develop creationism and afterlife as a method of dealing with anxiety. having one life doesn't scare me at all, thats why i'm livin it up while i can.

I don't want to believe there's nothing after death.I don't want to see my friends surrounded by darkness and confusion,asking themselves who were they and how they'd died either.I am trying to think about death like an eternal moment of rest,peace,and kind of like pressing the replay button of yopur life.Just seeing it again.And be happy with that.Wherever they are,I hope they are not surrounded by'nothing'.Yeah,i know,they are not anymore in this world with us in a phsyical way,but i'm sure they are somewhere in sort some of form(or formlesness).And I hope they are well,and not suffering like the Catholic church taught me about the bad people who go to hell.

Yeah after watching the movie 21 Grams, I wondered too. My thinking is that it is just energy, as energy does have mass, but maybe that is what a spirit is.

JD_May, I'm assuming these '21 grams' of which you speak are the amount that is supposedly lost at the instant of death? Who knows, but it may result from the loss of pressure (blood pressure) and muscle pressure in the veins and tissues of the body.

Anyways, I don't really think there's anything after we die... as much as I would like to think that there is something else, perhaps a better place, I just can't believe that any such place or state of being exists.

the weight you loose when you die is the shit in your body (like the voids and cavities and shit around your orgins) that just colapses, making your body have less mass, which means less weight.

and as for the whole afterlife thing. the universe is way to fucking big for whatever created it to give a shit about what happens to our mind when we die. energy can never be destroyed. the things that make up our body just go back into the universe (probably as soil... and food and breeding grounds for insects, bacteria, and plants).

god didn't create the earth and the heavens in 7 days, life didn't come from a garden in (present day) iraq, earth isn't the center of the universe, and until we outlive the dinosaurs, we got nothing.

and the reason all this mumbo-jumbo started is because humans have the ability to have the sence of awe.

cave men sitting in their cave by a waterfall was all curious and amazed for the fact that this ribbon of life was flowing by him from beyond what he could see. always there, always comming and always going, but never leaving.

if there is a 'god' - than why the hell are there so many different religions in the world? would 'god' not smote all the people who believed in 'gods' other than him? for that would be a great sin.

'god' - as humans would say, is a higher thing. whatever 'cause the imbalance of perfection creating the big bag is god. perhaps it was the collaps of a paralell universe, perhaps it was... well - i just hurt myself trying to finish that sentence so, that's the end of that.

the religion age is dying (5000 years ain't bad), science is taking over. perhaps one day science will be shut out by something we haven't even comprehended. (i believe that physics as we know it, is not true). we only know definitly about the actions in the universe for the past few decades, and off of that we are making guesses as to what happened in the past, and what will happen in the future. if the universe is as old as they say it is, than we haven't been around long enough to judge what is possible, and what isn't.

currently they say that the universe is expanding at a rate that is faster than the speed of light (which is pretty cool, because that means that stars that are still there and still exist are actually disapearing from the sky because it is traveling away from us faster than the light is traveling towards us). how is that even possible? is light not the fastest thing in the universe?

Way to much scientific philosopy going on here. Science is based on set logic, and everything we learn from that is limited by rules, that we made up by watching physical examples at work. I believe in a higher power, and in that life after our physical departure from our existence here. And I can't really explain why, and that's good enough for me. It's fro you to figure out yourself. But keep in mind, all the things that we have today computers, music, electricity, paper? How were we able to come up with these sort of things... If I look at a microchip, or a circuit board, or a CD, I always wonder how someone came up with these I deas and got them to work... Now think about it, and there's is no real explanation. My only way to explain these things is a higher power gave the people who came up with these ideas some sort of inspiration, a base onto which these things we take for granted today can be a reality. When you think about death, really think about it, I don't know if it's just me, but my mind goes completely blank, cause it IS an unknown, and our lives lead up to an eventual end. Everyones life is an adventure, it's your own choice on how to navigate it. If you want to live your life thinking there isn't anything, then go ahead, but that is an ignorant way to live a life. The fact that there is a higher power at work should be enough, but to some of us it isn't. But we all have the freedom to choose as we will, freewill... Believe what you want, an answer to your question.

that energy is not lost, its taken sumwhere. i think even albert einstein said that. i think that the energy is the actually the part that makes you have ur different attitude and personality and all that stuff. i also have been told about ppl who have been dead and came back alive and they could see their body and the doctors and stuff working on them and could hear them talking. so i think that if u think about it, it feels like impoossible that you are no more after death. also, my grandfather actually died like 3 days ago, and when i looked in the casket the other day, it did nt really seem like it was him. he looked almost like someone else. so i think that u do go sumwhrer after death

^Well, its Déja Vu, and...and its the chemicals in the human brain that cause personality and attitudes to be unique to each person. When someone dies, (i think this was mentioned above) the fluids in muscles and chemicals throughout the body are no longer regulated by body pressure, and they just follow the path of gravity. However, I'm not using this as some sort of Atheist reason for disbelieveing in God or any Supernatural, I believe there is an afterlife.

humans evolve. everything evolves. if the whole god thing is true, that means that evolution is not true. god created us, and therefor gave us our intelligence when we were created.

there is evidence of human life as early as 100 000 years ago (approx) in what is present day ethiopia (know to be the first 'human') similar finds (but not as old as the ethiopia finds) have been discovered in tanzinia, sudan, and egypt (pretty much all along the nile river). back in those days it is presumed that the sahara was not as desolite of a place as it is today, but instead went threw transitional periods where there were abundent oasis's threwout, making human life possible in a lot more places in Norther and Eastern Africa than today. but as the humans became more numerous, they traveled further and further for food (they were nomadic, and migrated with the animals) and the Sehara couldn't support human life anymore (with a few small areas) so peope has less land to live in in Africa. therefor starting the spread of the human race. slowly over time they invented and developed tools to make life easier. than they made the tools more efficiant, eventually turning into present day man with internet, cds, and nuclear power. (science backs this up). if god gave us the intelligence we have today when he created us 5000 to 7000 years ago than why did it take us till the 50's (or was it 60's) to figure out how to make a computer, and have it the size of a room, because they just didn't know how to do it any different back than.

the way technoligy has been working in the recent few decades is pretty simple. it may seam that we are advancing at a rapid rate and it's almost incomprehendable. that's because advances in technology work by doubling every time. what was once a computer the size of a room was reinvneted to be half the size of a room, until it was down to the size of a laptop.

not intel is creating micro-chips that have twice as much power as their last model.

think of it like this - put a penny on the first square of a chess board(which isn't a lot of money at all, wouldn't you agree). now double that and put 2 pennys on the second square. than 4, than 8, than 16, than 32, and so on and so forth. by the time you get to the last square on the board you have to put $92233720368547758.08 on the last square.

think about what we will be capapble of doing in the next decades to come. technoligy will surpass human evolution. we will have the ability to create things that we don't know how to use properly, or even AI, which by definition would be a race all on it's own.

than wouldn't be be god? we created life did we not? perhaps that is what happened with us (as i said a few posts above. science is what is ruling right now for what the best reasonable answer is. but give it a few years and physics may be discarded for something that makes more sence. perhaps aliens made AI (as we would call it), we scared and didn't know how to control something that could think and act for itself so it shuned us and sent us away to this planet and took away everything in our brain to make us 'stupid'. perhaps they knew that we would evolve again and were just willing to let us be, or perhaps they thought that they had solved the problem and we would never get smarted as a race and would just get eaten by the large creatures that roamed the earth already.

anyways - we all know that aliens built the pyramids, or at least helped out.

One of my friends had to get her stomache pumped, and was clinically dead for a few minutes. She said that she felt like mist in a forest, a part of nature again. I think thats really cool, of course the reason why she had to get her stomach pumped was because of shrooms, but that to me, would be heaven

ok, i think that was too deep for most of you and i'm sorry. (but still read it). all i'm saying is that for as much as humans know and think they know, we are still just small animals(in comparison to dinosaurs, wolly mammoths, elephans, and other large animals) on a small planet on the far reaches of one of many galexies. so in the grand scheme of things we don't know jack. so almost everything we say is just speculation because we have the sence of awe and today we want to know the same thing that the caveman who was amazed by the waterfall - what does all this mean?

odds are, it means nothing. but it could mean something. we will probably never know. according to the bible and religion - the only purpose of life is to get into heaven when you die. but if you knew for sure what the meaning of life was, would life be fun anymore? there would be nothing to ask questions about, nothing at all. and not knowing is what makes life as fun as it is. so believe what you want. just do some research and try to understand life from more than just once presepective.

Just a little side note - athism is currently the 3rd largest religion in the world right now (cristian is 1st, muslim is 2nd). not meaning satin worshiping freaks, just meaning that they do not belive in any one perticular religion, but rather they belive in science and facts, and think that the bible isn't the answer. there's gotta be more to it than that.

it is a weird thing, just to think your life stops and there is nothing else, if indeed there is a 'heaven' i reckon it would be like whistler only with fresh utah powder every day in the winter , and then you have gnarly mtn biking for all summer and just a flat out sweet atmosphere
