my recent thread "RIP Public Enemy" claiming that the PE is no longer alive and also discusses the 2009 k2 Extreme is somewhat falsified. After talking to my local shop manager who was gonna hook me up with next years Etremes before they were released to the public.. I learned some valuable info.

tHE k2 Extreme is ONLY a NEW name for the public enemy. Reason which i think is that the PE sales were down year to year and noone was enjoying them. Now the Extreme is completely different with the name they used in the past and a hip/retro new base and topsheet graphics. From what ive learned they are extremely vibrant colors ie. neons and brights and have the K2 logos spread about. if you know what the coombas look like. its like the coomba graphics cept with lots of k2 logos.

So for all of you PE lovers (not very many) you ski of choice lives with a new more steezin design and name.
 
Sales were down so the new PE is completely different! It is completely different because they slapped new graphics and bases on it! Totally new ski!! They shouldn't market it as a completely different ski if it is just an aesthetic tweak. Either way, I'm sure it is the perfect ski for someone but it is the same old PE.
 
byfar the fucking gayest ski name, i mean that name is like the stereo type action sports shit at wal-mart and stuff. you know the shirts that go.

Exactly. The majority (just a guess based on the kids I c riding them now a days) of twin tips are now being bought by Gaper kids with parent who have deep pockets and its just the name with the marketing strategy that will attract their parents money.
 
OR it is an attempt to get people other than little groms on the ski - using the extreme branding, older skiers may be able to associate with the original extreme skis and purchase the public enemy
 
are you all serious? the name is a kickback to an old K2 ski called the XTREME from the 80s. it's a joke. It's a company with a sense of humor. It's sick.
 
IT's a joke... It's just complimenting all of the neon color outerwear that is popular again... i absolutely love the fact that they are bring the old school back. If i had the money I would buy every ski off K2's factory line next year... i've heard about all of them and they sound absolutely SICK!!! trust me...
 
but pes were very cheap compared to other brands, so the parents with endless pockets probably woulda gone for a more expensive ski since if it costs more people seem to think it must be better.
 
It seems to me the K2 fucked themselves by having a silencer and fujative as park skis that were much cheaper than the PEs. now I know that PE's are beefier but I look at all three as more entry level park skis and someone just starting would rather spend less on a fuji or silencer
 
PEs are in no way designed to be an entry level park ski - they are positioned more as an all mountain twin, Silencer is similar, but narrower and pricepoint and Fuji is a completely different ski altogether
 
I believe the Silencer IS the old PE but with cap construction

The current PEs are wider @ 85mm, i think they used to be 80
 
yea pretty sure thats right, I think the silencer is using the same mould as the original pe and the newer gen pe is wider. I think the silencer is a bis softer than the current pe. and yeah pes aren't really park skis they're a solid all mountain twin. fuja is the park ski, but if rumours are true it'll be interesting to see what the next instalment of it looks
 
For the price Public Enemys are a great ski that rips hard all over the mountain. Prolly one of the most versitile skis out there. They may be a tad heavy, but come on dont be a pussy about it.
 
That is the joke, but I guess you don't get it or you are too young to remember the legacy of the original extreme skiing movement and the corresponding K2 ski line. That term 'extreme' was soon adopted by the masses and bastardized on everything from soft drinks to tacos to sport utilities to Disney-run extreme games.
 
there was discussion about it in another k2 thread last year.. I think supposedly its gonna be fatter and possibly rockered/ I can't remember 100% though, so I may be wrong
 
yes! i should be able to get this years pe's mad cheap next year cuz of the new name/ graphic.
