Left up to their own devices, the Conservative addiction to traditional values and material and moral comforts will end up putting us in a worse position than if Liberals were to take power. Not only do they seek to further marginalize marginalized communities (that is already abundantly clear in their stances), but they are notoriously susceptible to politicizing non-political issues, such as Global Warming, and Gay Rights. The neo-Conservative party has shown through action and sentiment that it is stubbornly unwilling to change in the slightest to conserve resources (this is considered a breach in their 'freedoms'), keep themselves healthy, or provide support in any way to their fellow citizens who may be underprivileged or different in a way they don't find "moral".

In response to this, Liberals seek to balance out the Conservatard agenda by employing equally ludicrous socialized programs and sentiments to people not even of this country, and do so blindly and without hesitation.

HOWEVER, this only means you will keep less of the money you earned. If that's all, then I'd rather live in a country that takes 25% of my paycheck and gives me the rights I deserve, rather than let wanton disregard for science, disregard for my fellow man/women's personal rights beyond what the bible traditionally allows, and general ignorance regarding the costs of vital planetary resources rule my life.

And i didn't even have to get into the specifics of the contraceptive war on women's rights, or clear examples of Conservative bigotry and hypocrisy (see: trans community + gay community) to give a compelling argument.

I was speaking more being fiscally conservative, i agree with pro choice and other social issues. I dont agree with the government taking my pay check because some poor people feel entitled to free money. If you dont work for it, you dont get it. Theres no reason a middle aged man needs to be on wellfare when tons of kids i know support themselves and go to school. The sense of entitlement that the people in this country have is disgusting. You are not entitled to my hard earned money simply because you live in a project and dropped out of school.
 
Agreeing with, and supporting are 2 very different things. It's like the difference between Tolerance and Acceptance. You may not like that poor people are trying to buy unecessary shit with food stamps (No one does), but it's just something you've forced us to deal with because you (and by that, i mean conservatives) are unwilling to put to rest common sense issues like Women's Rights and LGBT Civil rights, which unjustifiably dominate the course of American politics. The fact that these issues remain issues is the reason why we can't fix the economy and liberals are forced (yes, forced. I have not spoken to a single liberal that enjoys the ludicrous and outlandish 2 party political system stances on issues they care about - the silent majority of voting Americans would consider themselves social liberals, fiscal conservatives, as I do) to vote for candidates that favor their priority - be it social or economic issues.

But you have to agree, though Conservatives purport to be "fiscally conservative", they are mindblowingly unwilling to cut from Social Security (except a small amount in the last cut), defense (cuz we need weapons lolz), or Medicare, but are not hesitant about cutting from Medicaid, planned Parenthood, and the education system. That sort of selfishness cannot be tolerated, even IF you don't support socialized programs. It's evidence of their unwillingness to plan for the future and revise programs that support their lifestyles.
 
See thats what i cant stand, Womens Rights and LGBT rights. Its not like they are african americans living under the Jim Crow laws. Defense should never be even brought up when it comes to budget cuts. When they cut from education the money comes from teachers pensions and salaries which I totally agree with. No reason for a 6th grade teacher to be making 70k a year with a full pension.
 
How can you not compare Trans rights to Jim Crow laws? Trans people are the most systematically abused, assaulted, and serially unemployed demographic in the US, consisting of about 2% of the population. Gay rights have made a turnaround, but there's still only 6 states that validate marriage licenses, and 20 some-odd states who extend unemployment benefits. Trans people still don't have that, and worse, are denied even HOUSING.

Sure, you may say that with women's rights, it's not that bad, but the Gender-Wage gap is still hovering around 80%, which is ludicrous in a modern society of equals.

As for education, do you really think that they budget cuts to the Educational system really only affects teachers' salaries? It also affects learning environments, supplies, the students themselves, and opportunities extended to those students. BTW. Teachers do NOT make 70k a year. Where you heard that, i'm not really sure.

Defense is 33% of our budget (20% basic, ~50% of discretionary spending). We can afford to cut, and we MUST cut it back or our Defense or our economy will irreperably sink. Besides, we have more firepower than the rest of the world combined, for relatively few operations. We can afford to cut back.
 
I dont think either of us have the backround information or knowledge to pass judgment on this subject and we both have different point of views. But you make valid points if thats all it boils down to.
 
Why? You really believe that all of the wars we are involved in are worth the money we spend on it?

Also, less money to a teachers salary leads to it being a less desirable job, which in turn leads to less teachers. You said before that you don't think people should be given welfare. By not funding teachers you are ultimately going to lead to less and less of a quality education given to children. Cutting welfare and education just makes the gap between the "haves" and "have-nots" that much bigger. That is what I can't stand. People who say, oh just work hard like we did and then you can be rich like us, but no. Not everyone grows up with the same opportunities. In order for those less fortunate people to have those opportunities we need to help support them in some way.

To me, it sounds like you are a money-hungry republican that does not care about the people of his country, supports all forms of war to keep our EMPIRE standing, and will always fight to preserve the gap between rich and poor. Hell, all I want is to be able to get rich. Those that are less fortunate than me can fuck off because I need all my money that I earn. Everyone has the chance to get rich so those that throw it away can just die.
 
yes i do need all the money i earn, BECAUSE I FUCKING EARNED IT. Lets say you have a 4.0 GPA in college and I dick around for four years and get a 2.0. Would you be angry if some governing school agency took 1.0 of ur GPA and gave it to me?
 
Yeah but here's the thing. Without those taxes forced upon you to support welfare, an ignorant person like yourself would never even think about donating his money to private charities to support those less fortunate than himself. And to compare taxes to GPA's is just absurd.

I love the idea of a voluntary society, but the problem with it is that there are so many people that would not be willing to support others. In a way though, voluntary taxes would be great. You could go on supporting your massive defense spending, and I would go on supporting the less fortunate.
 
WE LIVE IN AMERICA. Everybody in this country has the chance to be educated and make money. Generally, people from the hood dont capitalize on that.
Obviously they dont have everything a middle class family has, but they are presented the oppurtunity for success, which is turned down by most people raised in the hood.
Im friends with these people. Ive worked with these people. Not many of them are taking advantage of all the opportunities to get out of the hood.

 
Most of the schools lower class people in hoods only have the chance to attend the public school. Most of them near hoods are way inadequete. Most are underfunded and just don't function well. Those kids either have the choice to attend that school or just drop out. A lot of them don't have the money to attend a better school

op should read "the working poor: invisible in america" by david shipler. not everyone who gets government assistance is a lazy piece of shit, think of all the single moms and injured employees, and other people in need. don't you think the government should give them some assistance?

also, our society is built to ensure that the poor have a harder time holding onto money.
 
see thats were your wrong, my family alone since i was in 7th grade has donated more than 20k to various charities in third world countries. When i was in 8th grade i had the option to get a brand new dirt bike or build a house for a family in jamaica, i chose to build the house.
Im not going to give money to a bunch of fucking losers sitting on a porch all day so they can cop a new set of 20s because they are to fucking stupid and lazy to work for their money.
 
I did freshman year, that is a minority of people and I would fully agree supporting them. Im talking about the other 90% of people collecting money they didnt earn.

But here's the thing Mr. White Privileged Attitude, it's great that you helped out some poorer Jamaicans, but it doesn't fix the fact that alot of people AREN'T too lazy to work (Mexicans, especially illegals, were recently found to be the hardest working people in the WORLD) who get shafted one way or another by either their seed opportunities, or geographical location or extraneous circumstances et al. Why fuck over the majority of the working population because Shaniqua wants to buy an iPad with her food stamps? Condemning a working majority because a minority abuse charity is morally wrong, even by traditional Christian standards, and isn't how we should operate as a country.

That's fine, but you missed the point of me bringing that out. Barring the notion that they are "illegal", statistically, the only jobs they are taking are those of African American males. If you're complaining about not wanting to pay welfare for people who don't work, yet refuse to give credence to those that do, while simultaneously GIVING welfare to those that don't work, or tax the system in jail, while not letting those that WILL work and DO work harder than anyone else in the world from progressing in America, I don't see a way out under your logic other than completely disenfranchising an entire class of the American populace.

Where's the logic in that?

I guess since I saw the word "taxes" and something about force, I thought I'd very briefly chime in.

Problem with a lot of far left liberals is that to them, higher taxes=more money. In many cases, however, the opposite is true, and thus we get something like: higher taxes=fair, or higher taxes=caring for others.

Obama was saying that before he was even the nominee.

 
I'm a hipster. I also work two jobs, pay my taxes and volunteer as a learning aid in a low income area of rural Vermont. Now my question is, how am I destroying America?

Look the problem behind anything you say is you are charged with emotion. This emotion seems to have stemmed from where you feel "cheated". Yes, there are welfare slugs, but if you would put your emotions on hold just for a minute and think logically about what percentage of taxes go to that you would come to the conclusion it is very very minimal. Yes welfare slugs are a problem and it should be looked into more/rectified. However, a lot more of your tax money goes to ensuring Halliburton gets paid $12 per bottle of water charged on the government credit card. Why aren't you condemning that?

It's pretty obvious your inspiration for political thought comes from demagogues. You take the insignificant points, get angry about them, and somehow find a way to attribute them to your bias. I really hope you can someday look at the world logically and think about these issues. If it was just you I would say oh noes don't feed the troll, but it's not. A large portion of Americans think like you and it is scary. They think with almost no rationale and ramble off talking points that have been predetermined for them to think they are arguing any sort of actual point that affects them.
