Yep, correct. At first there were no differing political parties, a system that the founding fathers prophesied would be caustic to the nation. Then there were the differences in how people saw the young nation succeeding: either through capitalism and speculation (free market economy, basically), which required a continued reliance on other countries (future democrats) or through the development of strong agriculture, which created a more independent country capable of making just about everything it would need (future republicans).
As soon as this differentiation formed, Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Adams were all pretty pissed and foretold that it would never be good to have such disagreeing sides. Now it's all we ever hear about--one side chooses its stance and the other just about always tries to shoot it down just because it's the opinion of the other party. It really makes no sense and is certainly not what we all see as 'freedom of speech' per se, but rather one against the other, with a few ineffective independents in the middle.
So rather than saying that liberals and hipsters are the ones ruining America, it would make more sense to say that (as stated before) it's the lazy conservatives, hipsters, liberals, rednecks, and any other type of individual you can think of that are ruining America, not necessarily solely members of one side of our bipartisan system. Though that's not really even a legitimate statement because there are lots of other things that could be 'ruining America' on a far greater scale, not to mention whether or not the whole statement that America is 'being ruined' is actually legitimate.
(While there are lots of things about the US that I really dislike, there are many many positive things coming from our country that make me believe it isn't falling to ruins, as a whole at least.)
