'm not backing their involvement in skiing just yet. They have always been anti-skiing in these parts. They sponsored a huge pipe event up by us when the whole mountain was closed due to shitty Northwest weather.
It was a sick pipe, spring conditions, etc. In between heats or riders, all bunches or snowboarders were sessioning the pipe. I took a few hikes and then I was pulled aside. "Sorry dude, no skiers, LIb Tech's call." There were some hack snowboarders in there, scraping the walls away and I couldn't hit it with them?
I was pissed and then made my "LIb Tech licks my ass." T-shirt I wear to snowboard premieres.
Then I see they are making skis??????????
As I said, I haven't talke dwith any of them and heard their reasonings for this, so I remain a bit skeptical, and still bitter about the pipe."
Schmies, dude, Libtech has actually been making skis for far longer than you have been involved in this industry. They have been suppling a few of the best big mountian skiers in Washington since the early 90's with skis. The guys at libtech/gnu/merving are deidcated hardcore riders/ and even skiers they paticipate 100% in the sports that they make gear for, and they are behind the ski project 100%
The skiers that they have announced are the latest development in the underground testing that they have done over the last fifteen years. I have had the priveladge to see the skis evovle for quite some time now, and have skied on various protypes, and was involved with providing some test data to one of the key figures in testing the skis.
The Libtech skis are here to stay, and they are going to be a formable competitor in the ski market. Libtech is part of the same clogramorate "Quicksilver" that includes Dynastar and Rossi.
I just mounted a pair of these skis for an athlete that is now in S.A. attempting a first decent on these skis. If he feals confident enough in the skis to attempt a first decent on them, I am more than confident in there ability to hold up and ski well.
