Level 1 Wins "Movie Of The Year" at IF3

care to explain why? I'm curious as I haven't seen the movie yet. Why weren't they deserving of both? Who in your mind was?

 
I would say stept should've gotten best movie.

maybe they did not get it because there wasn't really a powder segemnt. but the cinematography was crazy. the intro shot alone is worth the award.

best editing should've been either LOS or JOB , some technical stuff in there.

sunny was really good , but not the best I would say.

I thought that Stept's movie was a little.... disorganized. They had the running away from the cops/getting caught/ getting shots segment that directly went into the park seg at Breck which in my mind was a little funky. I also thought the talking to parents about urban skiing could have been much better and maybe a full segment on its own, but that went to the friends segment with walker, Tim and noah which also was kinda a turn off for me.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the editing, the skiing in each segment, the cinematography, and the movie all together, but I do not think it is worth movie of the year.

 
yeah the stept movie was really good but it was still pretty amateurish in some ways. a bit heavy handed on some stuff, and while the shots all looked really good, the composition of a lot of the shots were lacking sometimes i felt, things like not giving enough lead room on shots where it mattered a lot. also, i like the more creative, tranny finding direction skiing is finally going in but like half the movie was close out rails and drops. those guys are such sick technical jibbers and there were hardly any tech kink/long rails in the movie

really good movie but i think NS gets carried away sometimes
 
meh, no movies were impressive. nothing new or original, pretty much every movie company just rips each other off
 
N.L. nothing new or origional. This is the first time I posted on Newschoolers in Prolly 2 years or some shit. You watch Shay Flynn's closing shot or Will Wesson's quad kink disaster to fence close out. Nothing impressive. You ever done an 80 ft right nine blunt into pow? Chris Logan has. You got no fucking idea how hard we work, we put our whole lives into this shit. You want a Quad Cork or some explosions or something? Don't reply to this cause I have no intentions on reading it.
 
The "best ski movie" is always going to be subjective to whoever is watching it. Do yourselves a favor and support the film companies by buying every movie you can afford to on iTunes and decide for yourself which one is the best. That being said, im unbelievably stoked that this panel of judges made that decision, I know Josh, Freedle, and Kyle poured their hearts and souls into this movie, and they deserve the hell out of those accolades. 
 
This comment is disrespectful to any skier (regardless of what crew) who has worked for a shot this year. I really hope you simply stop watching ski movies.
 
Level 1 has been my favorite movie company for some time I they are the only company which i consistently order the dvd's from instead of iTunes. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm sure it deserved the title.
 
Coming from the asshole who thinks he's the fucking shit, yet posts less-than-mediocre edits on NS and gets upset (read: calls me all sorts of silly names over private messages) when someone comments that they're not of very good quality and he should get over himself on many levels.

Way to go, Nick Lyons. Just remember that while you did compete in the WSI, it was in 2004 as you said yourself. No need to trample on anyone else's feelings just because you didn't, and probably won't, ever make it to "the big league".

The urban in the 86 was amazing, new level of creativity, new features, and technicality. I liked sunny more personally because it had amazing shots from all types of skiing. You had sick urban from hornbeck, wesson, wallish, etc. but you also got to see huge bc kickers from chris logan, bc from eric pollard, pillow lines from p-white, and that crazy whale tail box. Both were amazing movies, but I like the variety in sunny more.
 
i don't understand why people are losing their shit about NL's post, it wasn't some personal attack on anyone, he just said he wasn't impressed about any of the movies really (and i took it as a criticism of the production/post production of the movies more than a criticism of the riding). ive only seen education of style and 86 so i can't comment but responding to a dude on the internet like he called your mom is a slut over that post seems really silly to me
 
haha word im just sayin, on a site full of retarded inflammatory posts, it surprises me that this one got such a reaction. personally i think the two movies ive seen so far were great
 
N.L. paid his 20 dollars or so for the movie or paid for the premier movie ticket, and thus is entitled to his own opinion. I understand why P-White is frustrated, because it is so easy for N.L. to dismiss something that was so hard to create. However, with anything creative there is bound to be hate. I bet there were probably haters of the Mona Lisa in Da Vinci's time, even though it took Da Vinci like 9 years just to paint the lips. I am not a game nerd, and i don't even own a gaming console, but I know there were a ton of haters of Diablo 3, a game in which incredibly smart people slaved over for 11 years. Ultimately, P-White needs to understand that even if N.L. gives negative feedback, he is ultimately supporting your cause by paying for the movie/ticket. To N.L., i haven't even seen Sunny, but in We, Leigh's inverted wall ride in fact is something that has never been done before, thus making it almost by definition 'new and creative'. Again to each his own, but that's just my two cents. Slightly off topic, but to P-White or anyone who was in/ seen Sunny, was Shea Flynn really in the movie?

Everyone worked hard for a movie. You can't expect a movie between this year and last year to progress to quad corks. It's not that simple. Sunny, and the Eighty Six were both amazing. I enjoyed both a lot. Now personally, I liked 86. I really liked the vibes. But Sunny was also great, and a ton of hard work was put into that too.

This is why I take money that I would spend on useless things and just buy a lot of movies so I can support the people and enjoy the movies at the same time.
 
Read up on his other threads, posts and the comments on his own pictures and videos and learn what kind of a prick you're dealing with here.

Troll doesn't even begin to describe this cockwad, he doesn't know how to troll, just how to be a self-righteous mofo... at least on NS. Maybe he's the goddam Dalai Lama of skiing and the most professional and loveable sweetheart in the skiing scene but his act online sure hasn't solidified any of those notions.

 
Yes, finally someone with credibility shitting on some of the asinine posts and attitudes that appear on this website. I am now content. Sometimes I feel NS truly misrepresents freeskiing as far as members (with piss-poor attitudes) outside the admins go, and it is a sad thought indeed.

I will be buying Sunny on iTunes and see how it is.
 
Idea for bonus feature in sunny or any future movie:

and edit of one urban feature, featuring clips from setting up, every single attempt, getting the shot, packing up, and so forth. Would really put a lot of things into perspective as to how much work goes into a single urban shoot out of the hundreds done by film companies

...one of the reasons i pre ordered sunny was bc p white fucked a gas can lolololol ... While cross eyed? 86 and education of styel were dope, looking forward to sonny as well as all the other movies. Same shit different day, skilluminatti, we, tsp, tgr soooo many too choose from eyes goin be broke lol
