Level 1 straight up copying MSP

Two years ago, in Hit List, MSP shot a basic Keystone table from a crane directly overhead, getting shots of Sarah Burke and Bushfield at night. Then along comes Level 1 a year later. What do they do? They shoot a Keystone table from the SAME crane, blatantly ripping off MSP!!!! OH MY GOD! The travesty of it all!

MSP's reaction? Uh, yeah, it's a good angle. Nice of Keystone to allow filmers to get that perspective.

There's so much MSP hating here, 95-98% of the time without basis or real understanding--any chance to spew and fuel the hate, the better. Just wanted to encourage people to get their head out of their asses and think for a moments before they say "Fuck MSP" for the 100+ time.

yeh but instead of sarah burke or bushfield you have vanular and other baller ass skiers. msp is only good for super slow mo cool angles and big mountain. i got bored of watching big mountain pretty quick, yeh its sick but not entertaining.

I agree that Vanular is sick. He'll kill it on any shoot. The point was Matt Walker came up with another reason to bitch about MSP, when in reality, the exact opposite thing had been done.

I obviously don't spend a lot of time here--I'd rather be about having fun than sitting around here complaining, like it seems way too many WANT to do.

And I'm sure 5 years before MSP did an angle like this Mack Dawg or some other snowboard film company did the exact same thing. For fucks sake its a goddam camera angle, nobody is stealing a fucking patent.

i seem to remember a certain thread about some retarded effect from some website that msp "stole" and used as the opening credits.

haha i love these fucking threads, matt where are you when we need you. Send out the bat signal maybe hell see it

It would've been easier to avoid copying Hit List if anyone had actually watched it.

That's the point.

So Level 1 chose the same angle at the same ski area. Does MSP care? Hell no. It's a freaking camera angle on a basic table top. Like I said in the other thread, with that kind of angle, it doesn't even matter where the jump is. It could be just as easily in Wisconsin as Switzerland. It's simply the coolest way to shoot a standard jump as offered by the ski area. If the jump was really unique and involved a ton of effort by the film company to set up and then was copied, that would be different.

What's so tiring about this endless Fuck MSP discussion is that so many things have been done a hundred times over by every ski and snowboard film company. It's just that if MSP does something that appears to be anything like any other company has done previously, everyone here suddenly goes ape shit that MSP is copying again. Even if it's something MSP already did 10 years ago, well before many here even watched ski films. It simply grows old.

i have never bitched about MSP before, never seen the reason to, but honestly those two setups are the exact same... again im not hating on MSP... they have probably done more for our sport than Berman has... im just saying that those two setups are the same... also, you dont think i want to be skiing? i got school for another week, then 6 month break. woooo! but i cant go have fun right now

yo mattwalker, in that thread you made you were blatantly hating on MSP. so dont go back now and say you never hated on MSP.

Watch lss with the directors commentary. It says that keystone offered to put out the crane to get some shots. Its not like anyone is stealing anything.

I want to make sure in all this that I'm not ripping on Berman at all. I like Berman and I think he's got talent, both in shooting and putting films together. It's his Jihad followers who endlessly lay into Matchstick on the most trivial of issues--and often throw out completely false claims--that get tiring. MSP and Level 1 make different flicks for different people. It's like music. Just because you like Justin Timberlake and I like Tupac doesn't mean one necessarily sucks more than the other. Although that could lead into a whole other argument...

i was never apart of this whole msp vs level 1 thing before this... and was and am still i am a fan of a lot of the stuff that MSP does, im just saying those two shoots look the exact same in everyway...

its a fucking camera angle, people use shots from above all the time, nobody is copying anyone, level 1 just did alot better filming from that angle than msp ever will.

It's cool you like Push, but come on, man, are you kidding? Copied the Community Project intro? Exactly? There's a bike in a neighborhood and the similarity ends there. Next thing you know, it's illegal to show someone scoping a rail before they slide it, or speed check a jump, because it'll be copying someone else...

For that matter, as far as I know, MSP was the first to break out of the traditional intro of logos on the screen and then skiers names over skiers shots by trying to do something completely different. Now a ton of films do that, including PBP, TGR, Rage, etc... So, you could say the Community Project copied MSP. Of course, someone probably did that in action films before MSP, so MSP was probably copying them. MSP sucks!

please never ever say 'baller ass' again. and yearbook was sick but since then MSP has gone downhill, i havent seen push yet though

Saying people stole an angle is like OMG HE DID A FOLLOW CAM FUCK HIS ASS WE DID IT FIRST. Stupid.

me neither and I started the other thread about the copying. OH fucking well, the lesson here is that MSP should make good movies that people would actually buy so that we could actually know when they are copying other film producers.

FUCKING MSP. get your shit together.

ya parks the only good exciting kinda skiing. big mountains are for pussys who cant throw down in the park. fuckcliffs and pow pow. i just wanna slide around on metal and ice all day. mark abma sucks, sammy carlson sucks, bushfield sucks, and most importantly none of them are BALLER. What!

Whats funny is that keystone OFFERED to bring out that massive boom so they could use. Level 1 never asked for it, they got offered it. And who in their right fucking mind would pass up a sick angle such as being like 70ft up in the air?

there might be a reason for all this msp hate..... ummm maybe they do need to get thier heads out of thier asses. when pollard says shits wack the shit is wack

Level 1 dominates. MSP is aight, but they need to get their shit back together. Their only good one was Yearbook..

so you go ahead and start your own trivial argument against berman. Nice!

Now for a trivial argument of my own... yeah, three years ago, PBP, ready fire aim, summer, hood, Pollard, side to side, directly over the top of a tabletop cable cam shot.

suck it trebeck.

I just get so pissed off when I see today's film companies doing things like filming skiers skiing on big mountains, or "catching air." Stump was doing that WAAAAYYYYY back in the day. Come on guys, get some new ideas.

^ yeah cause thats the only important thing right? not how good the movie actually is....

And I really doubt you guys will continue to sell 'more' copies, my local shop has boxloads of your DVD's that didn't sell last year cause everyone knows MSP is dunzo.

AN OPINION IS THE ONLY WAY TO HATE...correct me if i am wrong.

do any of you kids ever own up to your words or is an OPINION a way to say, "hey this thing called an "opinion" came flying out of my fingertips into the keyboard and onto the screen. i don't know what it is, i won't take responsibility for it, but i think my personality (remember, i said i think, i am not owning up to it) some how constructed hateful words and put them on NS.

if you gave some kid on this site the money and riders that msp has pretty much everyone would make the movie 10 times better.

and how many they sell dosent matter, all the gaper kids buy msp cause you hear about it the most, its about how good the movie actually is.

not hating on MSP, they make good movies... but its kinda scary to think of how sick of a movie Berman, Iberg or Kimmel could make with MSP's budget and whatever riders they wanted...
