Level 1 Brighton Rail Jam Etiquette Question

TLDR: Is it acceptable to sign up for the Level 1 Brighton rail jam without hope of actually being competitive?

I’m a Brighton local and a huge fan of what Level 1 and Brighton are doing. I’m comfortable with mellow tricks on the sorts of rails they’ve had at Sugarbush and Troll, and would expect to do some lip on, front 2, blind 2, switch off, etc. at whatever they build at Brighton.

Even though this is way less than what the heavy hitters will be doing, I’m considering signing up. My plan would be to ski my hardest during practice and the open jam, to enjoy the competitive vibe and the chance to push myself, while generally staying out of the way of more competitive riders, especially as finals get closer. I’d like to be part of the event and have the chance to push myself in a competitive environment, but only if it’s acceptable to do so.

Any thoughts on what would be most appropriate here? Community event where anyone can participate if they use common sense, or something more competitive?

And as a separate question for a friend - what level of tricks/rail expertise should a female skier have before registering?

Thanks homies.

I don’t think that there is a skill threshold. Go out and have some fun. Get peer pressured into trying something new. It’s all about hanging out with a group of like minded individuals. I’m sure that there are plenty of people “competing” with no aspirations of winning.

if everyone had the same approach im sure wed have an even bigger community, sign up and fuckin get some!!!!!!

i reckon go out there and just snowplow down the run piss drunk and then thank some made up sponsors like nitrous condoms at the bottom, thats better then winning in my opinion, but if you wanna compete, then i have no advice for you

if you want to compete, sign up! i’m pretty sure i’m not gonna beat zahner or fitzsimmons at El Dora, but damnit i’ll break my other collarbone trying.

Rail jams are a way to make friends and build community. Everyone riding is going to be stoked to see you hiking the same rails and going for it. Also, the adrenaline of it all will push you and you'll gain confidence and maybe/probably go for new tricks. Run it my guy.

I can appreciate that mentality, but judging by the replies, I'd say everyone on NS would sign up if they could. Half the fun in skiing is gettin' stoked with the homies. Sign up and show up to have some fun man

that’s what rail jams are for! simple tricks might actually get you good results if you’re nailing every trick vs someone going for hard ones but being sloppy. go out there and have fun man

Based on winners so far, I'd guess that the winners for this one are gonna be really good skiers who are probably decently well-known already. Not to sound overly pessimistic but most people who enter will have little to no chance of winning. But even if you're not trying to win the other prizes, you should still sign up if you can. I think you'll have a great time and you'll be encouraged to thrown down when you see everyone else going for it.

Skill level was high at sugarbush but the jam session was super long and everyone had more than enough time to get a ton of hits in. Then finals was the same length I think lol felt like forever and I was hammered by the end of it. I wish I entered and ended up signing up for the first rail jam I could find after that
